Yeah, not many good ones this year. Perhaps the commercial breaks were just overpopulated with the difficult times/now more than ever sorts of ads.

I agree about how bad commercials were this year. I don't think this year's Super Bowl will have great commercials either. It was the exact same way after 9/11.

I also like the Cravendale Milk commercials from Britain - actually Britain and Japan seem to have the best commercials - enjoy!

In the past years there have been very few commercials leaving a positive impression on me. So let's dig into the past.window.onbeforeunload = function() {}
The one commercial that impressed me the most is over fifty years old. It is well made, it is creative, it is poignant, and you've no idea what is being advertised til the very end. You can probably still find it on youtube - the Kodak "Turn Around" commercial. Another, from the same period, is for malt liquor (I don't recall the brand); the promotion is that in this mundane world there is still something to get excited about. The commercials featured a suave, debonair young man, sort of a James Bond figure, sitting at a table completely oblivious to the most astounding events around him, until a waiter brings the malt liquor, at which point the man is excited. The one I remember best has him sitting on a beach, in a beach chair next to a table with umbrella, calmly inspecting his fingernails ...while the D-Day invasion roars around him; a well dressed waiter walks in carrying a tray with a can of malt liquor and a glass, places it on the table, and the man is instantly excited. And I liked the first Armor-All commercial. It featured a stop-motion dragon in a cavern being attacked by a small warrior in a viking helmet with horns; a voice over describes Armor-All as the warrior (Armor-All) slays the dragon (rot); at the end a lady sings "Armor-All ... Armor-All .... Makes your world less rotten". (I have on occasion searched for this online, with no luck.)

^ I remember the malt liquor ads. Late 60s, I think? They've always been recognized as among the best. |

This line of ads from real-estate thingy Zillow. I've learned these are called the 'Susan' spots and there's a series of them. The video-editing magic isn't too intrusive, and I think the premise and acting are great. It's still funny after multiple viewings for me.
This is the 60 second edit, which I haven't seen on TV. There's several different 30 second spots.

There was a heartwarming Jewelry Commercial where a little boy wants to buy his Mommy a necklace for her birthday. He breaks his Piggy Bank and takes out like,$2 and asks his Dad,"Is this enough to buy Mommy a Necklace?" Dad is thinking,"$2? More like $2,000 is what Mommy's Necklace is going to cost!" But he plays along with his Son and says,"$2 is enough to buy Mommy's Necklace and they go to the Jewelry Store and he the Son Pays the Cashier the $2 for the necklace and smiles and Dad secretly pays the $1998 for necklace while Son isn't looking. :)

I know why it didn't post. At the beginning of the youtube code, there are 2 underscores (__). You only show one (_) in what you posted. Quote the post with the dead video, and you'll see. |
