I guess they stopped with the idiot husband and his astronaut wife Volvo ads
(I never understood that BS)

Now they brought back some dance-like version of My Favorite Things. STFU!Angry
I usually hear this crap tune during the Holidays...not in April!

I hate that bloody song! I have never been able to understand why it is now considered to be a Christmas song, it has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas.
This bleeding updated "dance" version is horrible!
Enough with My Favourite Things! It's over used during the Christmas season, to force it down our throats in spring is beyond wretched!
Kill it once and for all.
It's NOT A BLOODY CHRISTMAS SONG!

I think it became popular for Christmas because that's the season where you become even more materialistic in preparation for what gifts you want.  It doesn't offend the anti-Christian Christmas crowd and keeps it all so very secular.  Wink

Jesus, I do hate that version. Angry  I only want to hear that song IF I watch The Sound of Music.

The timing is way off! We did just get a big blanket of white, but still!  And that flippy synth crap ruins the song. Hate it!
I can't complain but sometimes I still do.

Agreed Hate it used during Christmas, hate it now used during so-called 'Spring' if it ever GETS HERE! Right now it's snowing which will be followed by rain.

It seems to have some Christmas connections.  Some of the lyrics are a bit Christmas-y.  And, per Wiki, it was sung by Julie Andrews on Garry Moore's Christmas special in the early 60s.  I guess it simply became associated with Christmas over the years.

My Favorite Things is a beautifully magical song from The Sound of Music which is traditionally shown around the holidays. Unfortunately this version could be one of the worst covers EVER destroyed by an artist named Nora Khaliifa.
Turned the track into some awful pseudo-disco arrangement back in 2008. Oscar Hammerstein must be rolling over in his grave and if I was interested in that Volvo I literally would NOT buy it because of this pitiful ad.

A few references to winter and one to "brown paper packages ties up in strings" - well, I guess that could pass as Christmas connections, lol, though it's pretty generic IMO. (And string-tied brown paper gift wrap sure sounds, um, elegant, lol.) Perhaps more interesting that in the original (stage) version of The Sound Of Music, the song is sung by Maria and the Mother Superior - two nuns, lol. Though it's anything BUT religious - it's an old folk song that the Mother Superior heard Maria singing, and that she remembers from her own childhood. (The context of the song was changed for the movie, doing what "The Lonely Goatherd" did in the stage show - provide the kids with a distraction from the loud thunderstorm.)

Anyway - none of that really matters here. What does matter is - what's a "whiskis"? (I guess it's something that gets on kittens, according to the singer in the ad?)

Plus there's the "snowflakes that fall on my nose and eyelashes" line which kinda makes it a "winter song".

Certainly has a Christmas feel to it, so why the hell not???

Then why is it advertised in a commercial in SPRING!? If it's a WINTER Song shouldn't it stay in WINTER!? It shouldn't be advertised in the months of green grass and blue skies!

I guess maybe it's considered to be a song for all seasons.

Wait a minute, Madison Avenue you can't have both ways! If it references winter only then it's winter. If it references all seasons then it's all seasons. Whatever it is, is I don't care I'm tired of hearing it PERIOD!

Speaking of Volvo commercials. Remember the 1970s ad campaign stating that 9 out of 10 Volvos sold were still on the road? I enjoyed reminding Volvo fans that the 'breakdown' lane was technically part of the road.Wink
