That was one of the stupidest commercials I've ever seen.

Definitely not SB worthy.

Not even TV worthy.

If that commercial doesn't steer one away from Volkswagen, then they should just review the Consumer Reports' New and Used Car guides

I actually found this one a little, dare I say, offensive? I have friends and coworkers who are from Jamaica and they really don't appreciate their accents being imitated. It's not a damn novelty, it's how they speak!

And I'm even more confused as to why you'd try to use a Jamaican accent to sell a German car Wacko

Like so many commercials on TV, I didn't get the point of having a guy with a Jamaican accent. Didn't really find it offensive, just dumb.

I get that the Beetle is the stereotypical "hippie" car, and they're trying to signify "No Worries". Is the Jamaican accent supposed to show that they too have no worries because they smoke so much weed (or "ganja")? If so, I could see that being offensive in a way.

I mean, why not just have a hippie/hipster?

While I appreciate Volkswagen's attempt at scaring away any potential customers, there's no need, as any good mechanic will tell you to stay well and clear away from those f**king nightmares.

Well, apparently not all Jamaicans are offended...

People imitate all sorts of accents in commercials and sitcoms.  The NY accent, the Jersey accent, the Southern accent, the French accent, the Indian accent, Valley girl talk, and I think Quiznos or Subway had some guy imitating a Philly accent not too long ago.  I do it myself sometimes.  I don't know what the big deal is.  I don't know why some accents are off-limits, and others aren't.

You would think that people would be offended by ebonics speaking, but I've never seen anything regarding complaints.

^  I watched this show on PBS a few years ago, called "Do You Speak American?".  Robert MacNeil of MacNeil-Lehrer contended that people who speak Ebonics know when to use it and not use it.  He stated that as fact.  I thought---has he ever seen Judge Judy?  If there's ever a time and a place to not use it, it would be on national TV, in front of Judge Judy.

It's actually at least highly annoying, if not offensive, to many people. But you get called a racist if you complain about it.

This one is just awful. There's no context given for why driving in the car makes people speak with an accent. It doesn't make a lick of sense.

It's not so much offensive, as just plain damn stupid and pointless.  Volkswagen is a bombaclat.

LOLLOLLOLLOL Couldn't have said it better myself.

My family is from Jamaica and they found this ad to be stupid and slightly offensive. But if they REALLY wanted to push the envelope, they should have given the guy dreadlocks, a dashiki, and have Bob Marley blasting from his stereo while plumes of smoke waft from his window. Hey, I'll bet THAT'S why those guys were so happy in the car - they were passing the dutchie pon the left hand side, smoking that good Jamaican ganja.

The only way they could of saved this commercial is if they played Don't Worry Be Happy.
One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off
