We tried this because of the Velveeta name and we needed a cheese that would melt nice. This stuff doesn't melt at all. Stove, oven or microwave, it looks exactly the same as when it comes out of the bag. Plus it just tastes funny. Kind of like vegan cheese. Just nasty. Save your money. Thumbs DownSick

Stick with the real stuff. This stuff can't even be legally called cheese. Note that the only place on the bag that refers to "cheese" is where it's called "cheese product". If it was real cheese, it would say so in big, bold letters on the package (probably in place of the word "shreds").

Notice also, under the large print word "Mozzarella", in much smaller print is the word "flavor".

Which may be a lie itself, but either way, it's just another indication that the crap is not real cheese.

Great news guys.... With the Air Hawk, flat balls are no longer a problem!!!

I noticed that after using it. I was hoping it would be melty like the yellow Velveeta. Lesson learned. Although, it was fun experimenting with the rest of the bag. This stuff doesn't melt no matter what I did to it. Even 425 in the oven, 10 minutes in the microwave, and in boiling water. It's like plastic. The broiler just burned it. Still kept its shape. Scary to think that a lot of food is like this.

It might actually be plastic.

What were you trying to get it to melt on in the first place?

I've seen this sort of stuff at The Dollar Tree, but I've usually been able to get store brand cheese (real cheese) for $1.89 for the same 8oz quantity at the supermarket. That includes shredded mozzarella, cheddar and other varieties.

It was some weird recipe my wife wanted to try. Chicken, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, peppers, zucchini, garlic and some funky cheese wine sauce with a bunch of different cheeses. Was ok. Thought going for the Velveeta mozzarella would be smooth and creamy instead of stringy like regular mozzarella. Nope. Just clumpy.

We tried one of the Dollar Tree cheeses before and had similar results, although it was sliced American. The 8oz bags of real stuff are running almost  $3 here right now. Don't know why it's so high, even eggs are around $2.69-$3 a dozen right now.

Try this:

There have been a lot of good cheese deals around here lately, been getting Kraft at Meijer for under 2 bucks a bag, but eggs are going through the roof.

I'm sure they're blaming the chickens that had to be destroyed 6 months ago, but just how long does it take for new chickens to reach egg-laying age? I suspect shenanigans because chicken breasts are at an all-time low.

I've seen this in the store but was put off by the cream cheese in it. Don't get me wrong, I like cream cheese, but I wasn't sure how it works out in regular shredded cheese.
And I  forgot about the mass chicken murder. Makes you wonder about what we eat.

You can't really taste the cream cheese, it just makes it meltier. But Thor's right, you gotta stick with real cheese. I think it was a Sargento commercial that said fake cheese only had to contain 50% cheese, the rest is oil.

MrsD and I have had a few discussions about chicken conspiracy theory. We lean toward the industry driving up the cost of a staple for as long as they can. Eventually all the destroyed chickens will be replaced with new chickens, and in theory, egg prices will go down. Near as we can figure, the chickens we get great big hormone breasts from were unaffected... since those were $1.69/lb last week.

Using 'Velveeta' and 'Mozarella' to describe the same product should be against the law. It just sounds wrong. And Thor is 100% correct - stick with the real thing.
Here's something really interesting:

So that's what they make space shuttle heat shields out of.

I wonder if that could be used to out the fire out after a weekend of buffalo wing and slider binge eating?

And if so, would you eat it as a chaser, or wipe with it?

LOL

Yup. That settles it. Only real cheese from now on. There's some pretty nasty stuff in the fake "cheese". Thanks for the link, PaW.
