"To my beautiful black baby. You're being born into a country that is currently in a frenzy of kissing your ass because of your skin."
So I'll use Vaseline on it so they won't have to kiss a rough, chapped ass.

Who'd have ever thought that Vaseline would be on the front line of a racd war? ![]() Actually, this sort of nonsense really disgusts me. |

Next maybe next they'll start touting their utility as an anal lubricant.
That way they could pander to gays, too. Put a black guy in there and they check two boxes. |

That one panders, but at least it uses positivity. It's pro-black rather than anti-white. The Vaseline one is anti-white. |

Let's hope this is a temporary phenomenon.
A passing fad. As soon as it stops being chic, they'll find some other bandwagon to jump on. |

Shoot, I grew up watching numerous commercials with inter-racial or inter-ethnic elements. But they almost always had positive messages of "everyone can use/enjoy this product or service". Not "you're bad because you're white" type of stuff.
And don't get me started on the whole "man bad woman good" canard in advertising............. ![]() |

Most African-Americans are anti-BLM!
So in this day and age...White Lives DON'T Matter, send them to Alaska! I'd like to see a Vaseline commercial with Buffalo Bill...It rubs the lotion on the skin or else it gets the hose again! |

There's a new version of this commercial; I saw it last night, but can't find it online anywhere yet. As I recall, it starts out looking the same, with the same pregnant woman, but they changed the lines in the voiceover: it no longer says "you're being born into a country...a history of violence against your skin..." but I don't remember exactly what it says now. Since that part was at the beginning, they may have skipped it/cut it out. But that version is nowhere to be found this morning, for me, anyway. Not even on the Vaseline website.

Why, as white people, are we not allowed to be offended by these types of commercials? Like we're just supposed to sit and take it because a hundred plus years ago the black population was oppressed and all white people are guilty by association. The black people need to take part of the blame for slavery. No one ever mentions the fact that certain tribes in Africa sold millions of their own people to the slave traders. They should look to their own ancestors if they're going to point fingers. I'm tired of being apologetic for actions taken so long ago that I had nothing to do with. Back in the 1600's Indians captured and killed several of my ancestors. I don't hate Indians because of it and I don't hold any Indians today responsible for the actions taken by their ancestors. It might seem like comparing apples to oranges here, but the idea is the same. Again I have taken another post off track. Sorry. I'm wondering if the person who dreamed up this ad is still employed.

Nothing to apologize about. You raised some valid points, all directly on topic. Just to play the "devil's advocate" for one moment regarding two VALID points you made, I would say this.... Re: the slave trade.... the white slave traders were much more sophisticated in the ways of the world and commerce than the tribes they enticed into capturing and selling members of other tribes to them. It could be said that the white slave traders instigated it and set it all in motion by exploiting the more powerful black tribes. That having been said, they are still culpable to a degree because the slave traders would never have been able to capture them on their own and to be whining about racial injustice all these years later while blacks are still to this day victimizing each other on a scale who knows how much larger than anything whites are doing, is absurd. And if you even dare mention black-on-black violence you're labelled a racist. Re: the indians killing whites, that happened on both sides. Whites slaughtered indians and buffalo (their primary food source) by the millions, and drove them off their ancestral lands. So it's kinda hard to blame them for the things they did, although they tended to be unnecessarily brutal about it. But again, your points are all valid and 100% on topic. Note: on the subject of Africa and the various tribes and their social interactions etc, there's a very prolific author named Wilbur Smith, an Englishman who was born and raised in Africa and studied African History. He's written scores of novels, many of them parts of larger series', and offer very detailed and interesting glimpses into what these tribes were really like. Many of them had structured military hierarchies with ranks and associated insignias as well as social and political hierarchies. |

My parents hired several black women as housekeepers/sitters, I remember them well. I was a little wild child. I learned early on, don't piss off a black woman. Frankie was with us for years. My dad hired an older black dude as a handy man. I would hang out with him and try to help. My grandma had quit driving and my dad gave him her car. A pretty nice mid-60s Buick. Talk about off-topic!
