More smart phone tech., for people who can't do normal things on their own.
Cars that stop themselves for the idiots who can't drive right.
Refrigerators that have cameras inside, a list of things we need works well for me.

And now this....When your expensive, fancy ass washer gathers my dirty underwear and starts the process all on its own, call me. Until then, you can shove this 'smart' sh*t where the sun don't shine.

It's just getting crazy, Jimbo.

Maybe some of the people 'over there' will get curious and search CIH.

Some more crossover members might be a good thing.  Do you mind if I call you Jimbo?

I'm always very careful about letting people on other forums know about this place. Worlds colliding as George Costanza said. I might tell one or two others about CIH, but I'd have to know and trust them quite a bit as well as feel they'd be a good match.

Same holds true with the other place.

As for calling me Jimbo there, that's fine.

I doubt anybody else will mind.

My search for CIH took me to places far away from here.
I get what you're saying, you just don't seem like a Victor to me. I get the connection to the Brit series you mentioned.

Papa Lazarou once said I reminded him of that character.

A few months later, one of our local PBS stations started running the series.

I guess I am a bit curmudgeonly, but then so are a lot of us.

The fact that you admit it is the first step.

It's never too late.

Ron,
I hate to deliver bad news but there's a heap of it heading your way.

"IoT" (Internet of Things) is coming fast.
You need to start worring about things like the toaster oven, the flashlight and the dog leash being "smart" (as in, connected to the Internet)!

Pretty soon "smart" will be UNAVOIDABLE.  Angry

Of course, all these things won't actually be "smart", unless you mean "millenial smart".
Don't get me started. Dead

If I ever sold my house and moved, I'd take my decades-old washer & dryer with me to the new place.  Most of the new stuff isn't nearly as good as cleaning clothes anymore ("energy & water efficient!")  Retro is cool...  Wink

IMO, they only got it half-right.
The newer washers spin the clothes longer and better, resulting in less time in the dryer and a lower energy bill overall.
(Although with all the high-tech safety interlocks, firmware, and whatever, a typical total wash time takes longer than ever!!!)  Angry

The "less water" thing on the other hand -- is a failure.
Ir probably does save water, but I'd rather "waste" a few gallons and end up with clean clothes.

Curiously, some of the newer washer have a double-rinse option, so I have to wonder how much water these things really save.
