Another of my 'most likely to stick ice-picks into my ears so I don't have to listen ever again' commercials. "Cool like dat, cool like dat, cool like dat, cool like dat....."
Really? Where'd you get the brainiacs to write the song for this pile of streaming steaming? Guess I'll have to change the detergent I've been using for the last 160 years because it's just sooooooooo fkg catchy.
OR: maybe you'll switch to it because it's the only crap that'll get out all of the extra vomit that's induced from listening to this.

You're older than 160 years .

seriously, I use the detergent that I use, all because it is the best for me. It works great.

Unfortunately, I have to use it too. Probably from the skin conditions that have occured from having to tolerate inane commercials for the past, yes, 160 years Smile
Generally at least feel young---until turning on the TV and getting bombarded by increasingly dumber and more annoying commercials. Guess it's the new wave in advertising to simply annoy the sht out of everyone?
Guess clever, humorous, and/or intelligent just doesn't work anymore?

It's a real song - not just a commerical. It's by Diggable Planets and is fairly old.

Well, maybe we could go back in time then, diggable a big whole in the planet and bury 'em in it before they ever wrote it? Big%20smile

What do you wanna bet this whole commercial was dreamed up by two middle age geeks who don't even live in the same zipcode as an actual black guy. One day they said we need something to appeal to the hip young urban laundry deteregent buyer so they decided "let's take whatever was even remotely cool about Hiphop 5 years ago and throw it in a commercial" then proceeded to put on backwards baseball caps, spit into a pretend microphone, and said "cool like dat over and over again" for the rest of the afternoon thinking they're slicker than owl sh*t. Next week They'll discover "I'm Rick James Bitch".

Err, ACTUALLY, Digable Planets came out with that back in '92 or '93...not 5 years ago.   And they were actually a pretty cool group, with a more jazzy/hippie type sound mixed in with hip-hop.  They always kinda reminded me of Beatniks from the 60's.  I really liked them 'cause they weren't your typical hip-hop/rap group - same with the group De-La-Soul from that time period.

As far as hiphop or rap, their sound was pretty mellow.   Kinda sad to hear everyone throwing them under the bus just from Tide playing that one rif Unhappy  ...I liked them.   I think rap/hiphop was SOOOO much better in the 80's and 90's, though I wasn't such a great fan of "gangsta" rap.

Now ask me about 90% of hiphop THESE days??????  Dead   Especially that TROLL named Lil' Wayne...now THAT'S what I call NO TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Angry Dead

(from the OTHER THREAD on this same subject...)

THAT is one *hip-hop* song I actually like! Always have.

I don't know why.

Neither does MissyDWolf.

Maybe because it FEELS positive.

Guess I have very strange taste about many things...maybe I think 'dey needs some edicashun like 'dat...a chance like 'dat!

I think others liked it too - the group was nominated for a Grammy, back in '94 - others liked 'em like 'dat, too.

Maybe it was just the jazz like 'dat influence.

My 18 year old thinks the song is NEW thanks  to the commercial! I told her the song came out when she was 2 years old! I love the song...of course hate the commercial. Commercials kill songs because they run them to the ground until you want to SCREAM!!!!!

I would have NO complaints should music like 'dat was coming out NOW.

I'll listen to the original song some other time, so I guess I won't make a conclusion based on that.

But I will say, this one definitely stenches of advertising fail! If it's true what they say (the point of an ad is to get the product in your head), it failed like that, because I'm not thinking of Tide (I don't even remember who it was for until I read up on it, and still can barely remember!), I'm actually thinking of washing machine knobs and the lyrics "I'm cool like that" being repeated over and over (I guess since the music is not just repetitive, but louder than the announcer lady in my opinion!)

Often, I'm familiar with a particular commercial...but don't remember the product it's advertising!  Either I get an F in concentration and comprehension, or the advertisers get an F in effectively marketing to me.  LOL

This commercial has gotten ApplePieDaddy singing "Cool like dat" every time he sees the commercial. And the thing is, we asked our kids, "What's this commercial for?" My daughter said, "It's about using cold water on your laundry to save energy." My son said, "It's for laundry detergent." "Which one?" "Uhhhh, I don't know." Not very effective advertising if you can't remember the product.

The "cool like dat" IS annoying. I don't know if Tide works better in cooler water than other detergents, but I do know that it really ISN'T better than a lot of other detergents on the market today, just a heck of a lot pricier, and I've been washing clothes for a LONG time and tried just about every detergent that's ever come out.
