I really only saw the "Your Skin" commercial on TV but both of these commercials made me feel sick when I saw them. Does these types commercials even convince people to stop smoking?

Yikes!  LOL

Anti-smoking ads have always been designed to shock.  When I was in high school in the early 70s, this poster and others in the series were hung on the classroom walls:

People still smoke through a hole in their throat after they get cancer so 1 little commercial isn't going to scare them much.

The one with the chubby guy with the mullet who says "pucker up" makes me think he's telling the teenage boy to put his lips around his unwashed b-hole.

These commercials are just plain dumb.

The older ones with the damaged smokers was much more effective IMHO.

Being a past smoker, and having a large group of friends who are all smokers, date smokers, and know other smokers, I have never in my life met someone who quit smoking based off a commercial, or any ad campaign for that matter.

People, including every smoker, is completely aware of how bad it is for them. But, like someone trapped in the grasp of any addictive substance, they honestly don't care.

I've often felt immune to certain testimonials, signs, etc. depicting the results of certain actions. But eventually, some of them did indeed have their effect. Depictions of black lungs, aborted babies and the like did eventually have an effect on me.

If I still smoked, I think this ad with Terrie would give me nightmares. It just about does anyway. The fact that she has lost part of her facial structure is bad enough, then add to that the way she is fighting for breath.

As well meaning as these things may be, I honestly think they're trying WAY too hard to scare people into not smoking. Heck, it's even more pathetic when they would show this during a cartoon. These 'parent groups' who complain about 'cartoon violence' should instead focus their attention on these ads! Who wants to be creeped out while their watching cartoons?!

All these type of nasty ads do is make me want to continue to use tobacco products out of spite. This is so stupid. My skin is like the skin of a 25 yr old and I am 39, its disgusting and everyone who smokes or chews is going to continue if they wish regardless of cost, health or stigma. I enjoy tobacco& have no desire to quit. I will quit if& when It ever becomes un enjoyable to me and not a sec sooner. I dont care if theres ppl yanking their skin off on my TV or not. All that accomplishes is to make ppl KNOW they are liars who exaggerate. No one in their right mind believes that crud. Anti drug ads are made for skock also yet millions use drugs& live to continue. People do what they please. Ads change nothing. Laws change nothing. Opinion does not deter us. They just make me leave the room and grab some tobacco Id not have used that second had the ad never existed.
If you could see the you that I see when I see you seeing me, you'd see yourself so differently, believe me-

^  I actually wish these ads worked on me.  They don't.

I'm afraid that the only thing that would get me to quit might be the actual banning of tobacco.

I will NEVER smoke!

I learned the health risks in school and the D.A.R.E. program. The consequences are nasty and undesirable. Plus it shortens your life I don't want that! Plus I HATE the smell of cigarette smoke!

They probably started talking about not smoking when I went to school (who can remember that far back!) but nowadays, the kids are inundated with all this anti smoking stuff. And guess where all the 16 - 18 year old kids who work at the supermarket are? That's right - outside having a puff break. Nice try, but clearly these ads don't work.
