And invading all of our television commercials!
Ever notice the recent rise in songs written by The Beatles being used in commercials? This is because ever since Michael Jackson lost the rights back in 2005 the rights to attain these songs has become increasingly cheaper. Thus, commercials galore!! (As a die-hard Beatles fan this, of course, is a travesty). I just may have to keep a .44 next to my sofa, ready to aim at my television. |

Yeah, the Beatles catalog was always treated like the Holy Grail or something. Ya still can't get their music on iTunes. |

I believe you'll never be able to get them on iTunes, because back when Apple first started making computers, The Beatles Record Company (Apple) filed a lawsuit against Apple Computers for the name. They agreed to some sort of terms and that could be one of them.

Apple vs Apple.

To my understanding, shortly after Paul & Michael did the song Ebony & Ivory, they were both at an auction bidding for the Beatles Catalog. Of course Paul McCartney wanted to regain ownership. However Michael Jackson outbid him and got the rights.
Paul was not pleased with this turn of events resulting in some sour notes played by Ebony & Ivory.

I heard about Michael Jackson owning the rights some time ago, but never thought anything of it. It's still the Beatles' music and I can still get it through various filesharing networks or just by listening to KLUV for more than ten minutes. I am upset at the commercialization of the Beatles, of all people (somehow they don't seem the type), and of their music and that of many other bands I grew up with and love.

It was Paul and Stevie Wonder that did "Ebony and Ivory". Paul and Michael did two songs; "The Girl is Mine", and "Say, Say, Say" |

What's next--will Capitol Records unearth more previously unreleased recorded material from the vault and release new Beatles singles, like they did in the 1990s? God, I hope not! Young audiences are probably already led into believing that the Beatles have been around forever, like the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin.

It's a damn shame about all of the litigation behind these classic songs. It's also a crime that a disgusting and horrid creature owns the rights to those songs. I detest Jackson, and wish that he loses everything he owns.
I think the main reason that these songs are so popular and are readily used by these greedy companies to be used as "jingles" is the fact that the age of the target audience of purchasers are the baby boomers. It was those boomers who were young when those songs were new, it's a shame that those songs are now used for greed. John and George would be very sad about that. |

If ever these three songs are used in commercials, I will forever denounce television; mark my words:
"Let It Be", "Yesterday", and "Something". I fear to know what ads these songs would support. |

I hate to be the bearer of more bad news but George's beautiful song "Something" was used in a commercial for Mercury automobiles back in the 90's
part 2
MiJack is up to his Skeletor nose in debt, so Sony TOOK the majority share in MJ's ownership of the Beatles song rights as payment from money MJ owed Sony records. Sony damn well knows they'll make way more money from liscensing Beatles songs to sell jock itch cream, or to whatever the fronk Sony feels like pimping them out to, instead of hooking their piewagon on MJ's future music career
like the old Steppenwolf song goes
"I say, God damn the pusher man"
