AggieLady:
(Note to other posters, I apologize, I realize this is a bit of a bump but I didn't think another thread was any more appropriate.)) If you'd like, there's a petition running through Change.org asking to have this commercial removed. I'm sure it would be appreciated if you would sign it and add your opinion. It's being communicated with Life Alert, although of course they're not being receptive at the moment. http://www.change.org/petitions/life--emergency-response-inc-remove-the-ment-commercial - http://www.change.org/petitions/life-alert-emergency-response-inc-remove-the-basement-commercial

My goodness this is creepy! Reminds me of all those PSAs in the 1980s - all those Drug-Free America (except "Brain on Drugs") and domestic violence, etc ads were scary. And when someone almost falls heading to the door, thinking someone was in need of help - and this commercial actually aired, it IS dangerous. Life Alert needs to pull this horrible scary commercial off the air.

1.) Figure out the age demographics in the immediate area.
2.) Determine number of widows and widowers.
3.) Determine how many of those live in single-family homes with basements, alone and without any looking in on them.
4.) Use phone solicitation in a bombarding fashion, to sell them affordable and reliable safety necklaces.
Sure would seem that makes the world a little better and all can smile and feel good about providing a needed, blessed service, doncha know?
'cept for one thing...
All of this happening in 'The Land Of The Free And The Home Of The Brazen'?
![]() Between the time the sale has been made and before the activated safety token arrives, one mustn't forget to have the basement stairs greased (but ensure there will be a comfy, cushioned landing) the day before 'Laundry Day' so they can break in and rob the elderly of all their worldly belongings...
![]() ```
Contrary to popular belief, I'm not going to hell for the above thought, no. Actually, that is about the way I see a lot of these predatory sales worms - except they'd prefer to be allowed to legally rob the elderly versus taking a chance at getting caught.

Here's the rationale from the website: Your commmercial is frightening and traumatic for those who deal with anxiety disorders and suffer from panic attacks. Many people from around the world have voiced the same opinion, and you refuse to listen. Please remove this commercial and in the future consider advertising based on the merits of your service, not on how scared you can make viewers. |

After reading that, I had to check it out and it does seem that some of the petitioners do cite panic attacks and such for the reason to be pulled. So I obviously won't make light of that, but this next reason made me chuckle a little bit:
''Watching Criminal Minds late-night doesn't bother me, but oh boy, that commercial...! ![]() (I'll assume that one was probably a joke response). |

It's just this silly little thing they threw in on the "The Index Masters" EP. I guess it's supposed to conjure up images of calling to check on Granma, but---uh-oh---she isn't answering. You can hear it following Ring of Fire at 18:56: |

It hasn't been pulled. As a matter of fact you can catch it at least several times a night when watching Me TV. It is realistic, the plump old lady sprawled at the bottom of the stairway to the basement with the laundry all over the place. With those fancy digs I'm surprised plump old granny doesn't have an exploited illegal alien washing her Carter's fart catchers and Depends.

Is this still on? The reason I ask is I just saw a Life Alert commercial on Investigation Discovery, but it was the older one with the younger woman hearing her mom, who has fallen in the shower, crying for help and running to check on her (I don't mind that commercial actually; I think it does a more
effective job of illustrating the need for such a product without
needlessly terrifying people and preying on emotions). I was wondering if maybe Life Alert had finally caved in to all the backlash and decided to pull the ad. I haven't seen the creepy commercial in quite a while.

What an awful, awful commercial. A real stomach-turner. As soon as it comes on, I change the channel. What are the idiots at advertising agencies thinking when they come up with these ideas? Do they think they're appealing and that people will want to sit through 30 seconds of it?

I saw this one for the first time this afternoon and it almost made me cry. My parents are approaching 70 and Mom doesn't get around that great anymore, so my mind immediately replaces the old lady at the bottom of the stairs with her. Probably the point of the ad, but it's still something I'd rather not see again, ever.

THIS COMMERCIAL IS BACK. I have seen it at least three times in the past few days. They have added a warning to the beginning of the commercial, saying that you may be 'offended'. Why did they bring it back? What is wrong with them?! It reminds me of those child abuse or Drug-Free America PSAs of the '80s - creepy, effective, terrifying, scary.

May have been disturbing 4 years ago when it came out, but now pretty tame compared to some of today's ads. Between the anti-smoking ads with the woman that had half her jaw removed or the guy with a tube in his throat, to the pharma ads that say you are terminal but take our drug and you may last another 3 months there is nothing that the adtards wont create.

Okay....so this scenario happened to me, almost exactly. I lost my mom that day. And guess what, I had made her get the damn life alert. She wouldn't wear it all the time. She wasn't wearing it that day. Her doctor told me his mother in law had it AROUND HER NECK when she fell, but she never pushed the button.
Not only that, when I returned it after she died, they kept telling me I never sent it back. I had to call them about ten times for them to finally get the message. We had been going to have an intervention to get her to move into a place where she'd be watched...she was doing great for 93 but I was afraid of just that happening. She wouldn't budge. Ugh. I detest this.

I don't get why they added a disclaimer at the beginning. Why would I be "offended" by this? Don't get me wrong, I don't like the commercial, but "offended" is a weird choice of words. Don't they always show an old person laying on the ground screaming for help in all of these commercials since like the 1980's?

Those old 'I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up' commercials have been parodied so many times and people laugh at them. This time, Life Alert decided to 'punish' the viewers by showing a real woman on the floor, screaming for help in a dark house. It's so unnerving, that it almost seems like a real situation.
