Yeah, I know, to most people this is a song seems like schmaltzy 70's pop. But to a Harry Chapin fan, bastardizing the lyrics and giving the song the reverse meaning is grating. Harry had a song called "Greyhound", which the bus company once considered using as a commercial, but when they heard the lyrics ("it's a dog of a way to get around") they quickly reconsidered. I guess they could have just rewrote it.

That's a song that has always been hard for me to listen to, especially these days with all the elder care duties and my own kids who I rarely hear from all grown and the wife passed on...I end up taking it personally, but it is one of those 'special songs' and one that just doesn't seem right to be used in a commercial...it feels all wrong.

What a piss poor production of a great song.

This reminds me of my older brother who had a young son.

That is just an outrage. Thank God Harry Chapin isn't around to see and hear that crap. Worst of all, he isn't even getting to enjoy the money those Ameritrade sh*tbag paid for the rights to it.

Corporate scumbags.

I am hopefully optimistic the money went to Why Hunger (originally World Hunger Year), the charity started by Harry. I don't see his widow or family on the board any longer, however.

She probably either cashed in and sold the rights to his music long ago or is still collecting the royalties herself.

I read where after his death, she sued and got a $12 million settlement from the company who owned the truck he collided with, even though he was driving on a suspended license and swerving all over the road before pulling into the path of said truck, then slowing almost to a stop. Right in the middle of the Long Island Expressway.

Plus, it was likely he was having a heart attack anyway and was pulled from the wreck alive by the truck driver and another guy, prior to dying from the heart attack at the hospital.

All that and she still walks away with $12 million.

Glad this was posted, saw it twice in the past 10 minutes. Damn I cant stand when they take classics like this remake it...sometimes an R&B theme like this, then slap it to some big corp commercial BS and try to make it all emotional. If it's supposed to make me feel choked up, it didn't work.
