I've pretty much always called it soda.

Sometimes I'll call it sodie or sodie-pop.

Speaking of odd regional colloquialisms, most people who are planning to travel by bus somewhere say "I'm going to take the bus.", but once I knew this girl who would say "I'm going to bring the bus."

Never heard that before or since.

God help us all if that were true!!!! Shocked

But seriously.... "take" the bus doesn't really make any sense either when you think about it.

You're not "taking" the bus anywhere.... the bus is taking YOU.

If you are from western PA you say, I'm waiting on a bus.
Even though the bus hasn't arrived yet.  Shocked

The real answer to this topic for me is that it has changed over the years.

When I was a kid (as a New Englander) I called it tonic.
My relatives in PA called it pop.
In the mid-70s I simply called all soft-drinks Coke.
Later on after drinking plain soda water for a time, I started calling it soda.

I only refer to them as soft-drinks when I refer to the beverage in a more official capacity.

I might say, Do you have soft-drinks?, if it's a resaurant that serves liquor, but I wouldn't say, I'd like a soft-drink.

That reminds me of an old George Carlin routine in which he says he's confused when people say "I am getting ON the plane..."   He said "I don't know about THEM...but I am getting IN  the plane!!"  Back to the topic...I rather like "FIZZY LIFTING DRINKS"!  Especially with the addition of vodka.  Clap

In California growing up we said "coke"
In Washington/Oregon it is mainly "pop" but a lot say "soda" I have found myself using soda and pop interchangeably

This is easy! Soda!

Does it SAY "Pop" on the bottle? No!

It says "Soda".

Orange Soda. Grape Soda. Cream Soda.
That's what the products are called.
If you do find a label that says "Pop", they're trying to be kitchy or clever or funny.
It's called soda.

There's no Coca-Soda or Pepsi-Soda.  Tongue  They're colas.  And Seven-Up is "The Un-Cola".  Maybe they should rename it "Seven-Ooops".   I am thinking "Soft Drink" is not such a bad idea now! LOL

Screw you both! Let's get back to WHAT IS IMPORTANT, HERE!
Again...it is "BEER".
Delivered by you both, side-by-side, on your knees...Tiz, on the left, with 'open-right hand', ready to serve bottle; Hooty, on the right, bottle held up with left-hand, right hand carefully removing the top.
Pa on the throne, awaiting 'The Servants' Offering' (please make sure it is cold, this time). Wink LOL

Pa, I'll bring you 12 bottles of "Shoenling Little Kings".  You will never want anything else to drink.  AND, you will say "Please" whenever you don't understand someone.  LOL
