Saw a commercial this morning that I didn't pay too much attention to because I thought it was for a phone service. Apparently, it's for a new TV show called "Selfies." from what I could gather, some bimbette is so absorbed with her phone she is missing the real world around her. I think a new job is part of this (1 season if any) sitcom.

Yeah, hilarity ensues (rolls eyes).

Using a premise similar to Pygmalion and My Fair Lady, the series will follow the life of Eliza Dooley (a modern day version of Eliza Doolittle), a woman obsessed with becoming famous through the use of social media platforms (including the use of Instagram and taking selfies), until she realizes that she needs to actually find people that she can be friends with physically instead of "friend" them online. This prompts Eliza to hire Henry Higenbottam (a modern day version of Henry Higgins), a marketing self-image guru who is left with the task of rebranding Eliza's image in the hopes to show her that there is more to life out there than just playing Candy Crush Saga with an iPhone and connecting with a Facebook page.

It looks like they've found a point that's actually lower than the lowest common denominator.

I looked at the cast on IMDB, and CIH Repeat Offender Allyn Rachel is gonna be in it.  She's moving up in the world - from inane vapid commercials to an inane vapid "sitcom."

I'm probably going to watch it, simply because Karen Gillan is in it, and she's just...lovely...all legs, ginger, and so much sass her middle name should be Sassafras.

Sounds like a series all we CIHers can hate. Perhaps some of us can watch it and report on how terrible it is? lol

"Amy" is nice to look at, but annoying and you can't help but want to put a fish in her mouth sometimes. Never got the love for her on Who, probably because the story was built AROUND her more than her or "Rory's" acting abilities.

I thought Amy was the first properly developed character in the revival. I enjoyed the transition from her damaged scared scarred self to the mature sensible woman she became before she left.

Karen did have some brilliant moments in it, and I've liked her in some of the other stuff I've seen her in (Touch of Cloth, We'll Take Manhattan, etc)

Here are more examinations on "selfies", including the same obnoxious trailer for the new series and further academic notes on the "duck face" and "platypus lips" trends.

The concept itself isn't that bad, but honestly, a show about a woman trying to become a viral celebrity already sounds dated. Another example of some idiot Hollywood execs thinking they're cool by using the lingo of the day. It reminds me of a McDonald's commercial trying to shoehorn as many tropes into an ad as possible.

Why doesn't anyone in Hollywood care about creating a lasting memory, and not just another flavor of the month? The title's going to be dated in five years, if this show even takes off like that.

Also...the title blows. What idiot is coming up with these generic titles and how can I get that job?

I don't know about this show. The pilot is on Hulu, but I have yet to watch it. Just the word selfie sickens me. Although, it would be a good name for a porn with chicks "doing a selfie"...
Say something clever here...

No, I'm too lazy. Imagine it yourself.

Do we really need this crap? I think making a show based on cat videos would be more entertaining!

I actually like the premise. Hopefully it pokes fun at the concept. It probably won't, though. Personally, I'd name it, The Downfall of Civilization.
