I hate the new McBistro commercial with the black actress unpacking her purse with condiments and then realizing she has a McBistro, which is so good, she re-packs all of those sauces back in her bag... and she turns to the guy at the next table and says, "Honey, you  ain't gonna need those..." Is anyone else offended by this? All that's missing is two snaps and an "mm HMMM child."

Never seen it but no. I believe theres a line between being racist and being stereotypical. I've googled McBistro 3 times and have come up with nothing except a Bistro Menu for certain chains in FL...

I guess the alternative would have people of every race/ethnicity/religion acting neutral, or maybe like a white Midwest Presbyterian.  As it is, most portrayals are already like that.  Maybe that's why the ones that don't, seem to stand out.

Thor, I see your point. I am not saying I want everyone to sound, "You won't be needing those sauces" with their pinkies up in the air. It just-I don't know-seems to be bordering on the character-esque more than how I sound.

Maybe all we can do is avoid becoming those stereotypes ourselves.  I've noticed that, on TV and in the movies, if a character has an Italian last name (as I do), there's a certain set of behaviors that go along with it (Joey Tribiani, Tony Soprano, Fonzi, etc.).  But those sorts of people exist, so what're ya gonna do 'cept to make sure you're not that stereotype?

Maybe within a few generations from now, those stereotypes will be obsolete.  For instance, maybe the name "Soprano" will belong to people who are only 1/16th Italian, and live in Kentucky, and have never once said "fuggedaboutit".

I shaved my moustache years ago, when two strangers within several days told me I looked like Mario.  I didn't know what the first person even meant (who's Mario?), so when the second person said the same thing, I asked around.  The 'stache then came off.  LOL

Oh, also...the kids on Haight Street used to "accuse" me of being a cop 'cause of the 'stache I think.  But that I didn't mind so much.

I have blue eyes.  So did my father (he was from the Italian side of my family).  My mother (a Slovak) had brown eyes.

Probably woulda made a great Halloween costume for you back in those days.

Get a red beret & sew a round white patch with a red M on it, a red shirt, white gloves & blue overalls.

You coulda had a tape of the background sounds & music on a small cassette player in one of the pockets.

You'd a been a big hit.

Ahhhhhhhh well..... opportunities lost.....
