This is from Prince's birthday concert, 1986.
It was broadcast in Europe.

I always assumed HollyRock was a Prince / Shiela E. fan.

She is the daughter & niece of two of the percussionists from the group Santana.

I first saw this song performed on SNL back in the 80's & I'm pretty sure I still have it on video tape somewhere.

I used to hang around with this old drinking buddy of mine & occasionally when we were out getting lit, I would imitate her doing the title line of that song then follow it up with a "good Gawd - UNNHHH!!!" the way she did on SNL. Used to crack him up.

How did I not see this post until now?

I had forgotten about this song, for nearly 20 years!  How is that possible.  I do enjoy Prince, and Sheila E, and was even a bit of a percussionist in high school (but way, way, less cool than Miss E).

I was actually thinking of the Flinstones' reference when I chose that screen name.

Then again, I could change my mind.  Yeah - that's my theme song!!  Cool
Let's try not to be boring, mkay?

Not Santana; it was Azteca.

Pete Escovedo is her father, I think.  Thus, the E.  But I think he was in Santana.  I guess I could look it up.  Maybe he was in Azteca, too, but I've never heard of them.

He played with Santana(the musician) on occasion, but was not officially one of Santana(that musician's group).

You guys are right; he did play with Santana.  The first place I looked (Sheila's info page) didn't mention Santana, but did mention Azteca.  Sorry!Embarrassed

Wrong.

But I guess you've long ago gotten used to that by now.

Quote  Peter Escovedo is a Mexican-American musician percussionist.

With his two brothers, Pete formed Escovedo Bros Latin Jazz Sextet, before Santana hired Pete and Coke Escovedo for his group.

He led the 14-24 piece latin Big band Azteca.

Father to musician Sheila Escovedo aka Sheila E., and brother to fellow recording artists Alejandro Escovedo, Coke Escovedo, Javier Escovedo and Mario Escovedo.
