A new incredibly annoying commercial from J.G. Wentworth.  Nobody likes opera, so lets do a commercial with it.

Can you believe that the spokesman is none other than (Stage Name) Orson Bean...anyone remember him with the likes of Allen Ludden, Betty White, Bill Cullen and Kitty Carlysle on shows like "What's My Line", "To Tell the Truth"....
and, well heck! Here's some trivia...
The newborn (Real Name) Dallas Burroughs was a second cousin to Calvin Coolidge, who was President of the United States at the time of his birth.

Actually Pa, I wasn't 100% sure so I just checked his IMDB record...he was on both, plus "I've Got A Secret."  I guess he was the perfect guest panelist.

That's where I got most of my information...the moment I saw the show listings it all came flooding back (I really liked both 'To Tell The Truth' and 'What's My Line')...

I haven't seen the commercial - which DOES indeed sound stupid, but, um, well, uh, I LIKE opera!

oh hey...Thanks, Madawee! Guess I took the discussion off-track and over the cliff...I can't believe they actually made ANOTHER J.G.W. commercial; have seen it, but I'm really hoping Orson Bean isn't SINGING about "...it's YOUR cash - use it when YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU need it!"

(it isn't over 'till the annoying spokesman sings...)

Another "autoflip" commercial. Here's what the commercial really says - "It's your money, and WE want it now!"

Opera is to music what purgatory is to theology.

That said...in contrast to Wentworth's repetitive screaming commercials, this actually isn't that bad IMHO. The only truly bad part is ol' J. G. getting his five seconds of facetime as the conductor.

A lifetime ban from television is in order for him.

I just heard this commercial a few minutes ago, did a search, and lo- and behold, here we all are.   I can not believe someone thought up this concept for a commercial, presented it, and other people said "What a great idea!"  I seriously turn the channel when I hear it begin.

It seems like this commercial is shown at least a dozen times a day. I literally want to throw my remote through my TV every time it is shown. I have turned the channel on many occasions because of this commercial.

I have hated all JG Wentworth commercials ever since they started showing them 10+ years ago.  I was always struck by the annoyance level of Mr. Wentworth's voice.  Why don't they pay someone else to do these commercials?  Why would this asshat do his own commercials with that annoying voice?  "I'm JG Wentworth and I sound like some old a-hole's butler."

Each time I see this stupid ad, all I can think is, "would you really trust your $$$ to a company called J. G. Went-Worth?" I sit there and imagine that the J.G. stands for "Just Gone," and my "worth" has "went" for lack of better grammar.

Reviving a really old thread here, but this commercial is still annoying years later.

Oh, and that's not Orson Bean driving the bus.

I called them up and told them their commercial was annoying and the guy told me "Well why don't you get off your @#& and get a job." I was trying to help them. How did he know I didn't have a job?

You should have told him you had a massive settlement - more than he'd earn during his measly, useless life working as a call-center phone operator...and you knew it was your money and you wanted it NOW.

Meh. What bothers me is that it's obvious the actors are lip-syncing. Why didn't they use the real singers in the ad?

First off, I'd just like to say I love opera, I guess that makes me nobody! Wink  Also I like the one where they are on stage wearing stereotypical opera costumes, I find it amusing and original.  The song & singing could be better but at least it isn't that usual weak watery-sounding happity hoppity indie type music playing on half the commercial nowadays.  Or the "hip-hop"/"dance" crap during every other one.

I really don't like the bus one, though.  Whose addled brain made that leap of logic?  Opera singers -> bus?  Flat what.  If that was J.G. who thought that up, I don't think I trust him with my settlement and cash.

People shouting out the window that they need their money NOW can all burn in fiery pits forever for all I care.

The folks at J.G. Wentworth actually called me last week. I've heard some pretty nasty things about their reps, but the one that called me was actually very nice and kind of timid.

I pretended to be a large gentleman who slipped and fell in the lingerie section of the local K-Mart and got a long-term annual settlement.

Geez. These guys are relentless. They call at least twice a day looking for Otto. I finally broke down an answered and ended up singing their theme song to the rep on the other end.

I'm an opera fan too, and though there's more "opera stereotype" in these ads than you can count, lol, I can appreciate the spoof aspect of it. I too thought the bus was an odd venue - unless they were a provincial bus-and-truck touring company, lol.

I have to give them credit, though - someone definitely did their research into stock "bad acting" gestures - my favorite is the young mom and dad with the babies - the way she shakes her head while she sings, and the way they do that ultra-fake bending backwards with surprised laughter when their babies sing...I mean, you can't make this stuff up. It's so bad it's good. ;-)

There's a young guy who can be seen a few times momentarily in the back of the bus in that version of the ad, who reminds me VERY much of a young actor I've worked with a number of times - when I saw him this past winter I asked him if he was in the ad, and he denied it. But I could swear it's him...;-)

Confused...I don't mind these commercials so much - it actually required talent to make them. Only problem I have with them is how the stinkin' tune gets stuck in my head...
