Are you concerned?

The wife and I are just getting over some cold and flu symptoms.  She had it for over two weeks and mine lasted only about 5 days.  I'm almost my normal ornery self again.  She is out and about much more than I am. The lady at the Culver's drive-thru didn't have her voice.  Another symptom that we went though.  That's a little scary!

Medical expert on coronavirus: Don't panic, 'prepare for the worst right now'

Don't panic, huh? Tell that to the f**king morons who bought up all the Isopropyl Alcohol, Hand Santizer, and etc.  Prepare for the worst! What the sh*t is this? A snowstorm?! It's like that South Park episode on Global Warming where the whole town is panic buying everything off the goddamned shelves.

You so-called experts f**k this all up didn't you?  I work in retail, right smack dab in the middle of this sh*tstorm. You could've done a hell of a lot better.  Now the people who really are sick, and really need those aformentioned items in the previous paragraph can't get them.  I think the best phrase to use is: "STOP HOARDING! STOP PANIC-BUYING! GET THE FACTS ON THE WHO website!  Personally, someone should fire this asshole!

When I FIRST heard about this Wuhan town beings "closed off" a few months ago, I said to my aunt - this WTF virus will be here "by summer." I was way off on that, honestly I didn't think by late Feb.! Guess I was being over-optimistic perhaps

I'm not in a total panic, not yet. I DO worry if my aunt gets this, it can be extremely serious for her. Upper 70s, diabetes, has a history of respiratory issues, pneumonia (There are now 7 cases of this near me though Montgomery County PA outside Philly...smh!) I do suspect there are a heck of lot more cases out there - lack of testing just can't confirm it yet.

This stock market plunge last week and especially today, economy in general is a hell of a lot more concerning than this damn pandemic right now.

As for this sh*tbag clueless so called "President" the Govt. run agencies.
NO info, wrong/conflicting info. This is such a massive clusterf**k!! Angry

I didn't see this reply. Yeah that was my concern. Feb 29 you posted this, the sh*t really started to hit March 2, exactly one week ago. Seeing it plunge bouncing from 1800-2000 points at 9:35am, 7% loss triggering a "stoppage" ...Jesus!!

(1:45pm EDT, it's back down 1800+ points again, over 7% loss)

THIS is the part that is really scaring the hell out of me right now, more than this virus.

My next door neighbor is an HR Director for Universal Studios, China Operation. Hence, he travels back and forth between here and China on a semi regular basis.

I noticed that his car had been gone from shortly after the beginning of the year and most of January which was unusual because normally he'd just leave his car home and get a ride to the airport. As January turned into February and he was still gone, I began to suspect that he might've gotten caught in the quarantine or, worse yet, come down with the virus.

A couple of weeks ago, some of his friends stayed there for a few days, then a gal who I'd seen before came by in his car. I saw the car first and figured he was home, then I saw her hauling a couple of trash bags out, so I chatted with her for a few minutes.

According to her, he says it's more of a mild annoyance than anything really serious and the reason he's been over there so long is work related. They're building and opening a new Universal China theme park apparently.

Still not 100% convinced.

If he was sick, he or she might not want to tell anyone.

Privacy and all that.

Due to the virus, all the late night talk shows had no audiences last night.

Kimmel, Fallon and Colbert all played to empty seats, save for their staff employees.

Not surprisingly, they were only slightly more boring than they usually are.

Many states have shut down all schools. WA just did that, with Jay Inslee ordering schools closed until 4/24/20.
Also, universities will be ordered into online learning ONLY through 4/24. Dorms and dining halls remain open at universities including WSU, CWU and UW.
He also mentioned the National Guard.
This document is scaring the heck out of me however...WA's plan to quarantine:
https://twitter.com/ByMikeBaker/status/1238485594877001741" rel="nofollow - https://twitter.com/ByMikeBaker/status/1238485594877001741
That could mean cordon sanitaire. Which is mandatory quarantine, and National Guard putting up blockades. Would essentially shut down EVERYTHING in WA state apart from hospitals and of course, law enforcement...

Things aren't too bad at our local grocery store. Plenty of frozen food, fresh beef and pretty much everything I needed.  The only aisle that was bare was the bread aisle. I couldn't get my split-top wheat bread.  Thank goodness the bakery makes hamburger buns and I found a small loaf of white bread. The wife is making her Manwich recipe later today, we needed some buns!

getting tired of seeing all those empty grocery shelves containing zero essential items: canned goods, meats, pasta... it seems CLNN (Chicken Little News Network) has done too good a job at frightening people into some sort of Apocolypse era, when actually SARS killed more people, as did MERS, and living conditions were way were during WWI and WWII (especially in the encampments). People need to get a grip- its not the end of the world.

California orders its nearly 40 million residents to stay home to prevent the spread of coronavirus

I'm wondering if this will happen in Wisconsin.  If our overzealous cops are going to pull over random people to see if they are out 'joy riding'!

List your favorite conspiracy theories here - I’ll throw one out here - I think this was a manufactured virus in China that was meant to thin the herd (population) by specifically targeting the elderly and the sick, but it moved to quickly, and now, like Pandora’s Box, it is globally out of control.

No, I think it is only sheer incompetence in dealing with something that occurred naturally.  But bad players have taken the opportunity to inflame the overreaction to it.  We're only a few small steps from being put under martial law, and look how easily it can be instituted.  Seems like a test run to do just that, and no doubt lessons & corrections will be learned to do it better the 'next time'.  But that's just 'crazy talk'...

Yeah, I went out in the garage the other day and found a package of those dust masks that I bought at Harbor Freight umpteen years ago.

Pack of 5....

The ones I have are a light blue color.

Had a pair of yellow rubber kitchen gloves too, but they were too small and I ripped one trying to pull it on.

The masks by themselves wouldn't do much good by themselves, but you can put something inside them like a sanitizer wipe or a paper towel sprayed with a disinfectant.

Got a pair of shop safety glasses too.

Keep those corona bugs out of my eyes. Thumbs Up

Are you talking about the foods bar with the trays of hot food? Here, those are closed. Kind of. They have it all pre-packed into little containers. Same with the Chinese food bars.

I go to another supermarket for the salad bar there. I'm assuming they're shut down, too. I don't want prepacked salad. I wanna make my own, dammit.

From what I have read this morning. I can still get drive-thru or carry out food orders. They are keeping the dining rooms closed.

Is your store open 24 hours?

Restaurants are only carry-out or deliver.

Walmarts are closed at 8:30pm. I think that's nationwide.

Hello again, AKA.  No, I'm not stalking you!  Just saw your list of new restrictions for Wisconsin and thought I'd mention my sister lives in Lake Geneva (not sure where you are) and is a "social butterfly".  These new rules are driving her nuts... worse than me, if that's possible.
By the way, here's some pics of a German Shepherd I had several years ago.  I know you're a Shepherd fan.  Thought you might like to see what he did one day.  We didn't teach him that.  He just did it.

So I went to the grocery store this morning hoping to pick up two or three 2-liter bottles of cheap, store brand, caffeine free diet soda. Last time I was there, they were cleaned out, so I was hoping they had gotten some more in.

They hadn't.

But they did have left a few 12 packs of canned el-cheap-o diet soda in the three flavors I like. Caffeine free diet cola, diet root beer (which is always caffeine free) and diet ginger ale (which is also always caffeine free).

I never buy canned soda because I don't like having to always open a new can every time I want a drink. But it was either that or nothing, and they had 12 packs on special, 4 for $10, so what the heck.

Then it occurred to me that switching to canned sodas might be a good way for me to cut down on the amount I drink. With a 2 liter bottle in the fridge, I can just go in, twist off the top and take a big swig. Or a guzzle. Next thing I know, I've gulped down 67.628 ounces of diet soda before I know it. I was having to work at making one last more than two days, if that.

But because I'm reluctant to open up a new can just for one drink, hopefully I'll be able to limit my consumption to one can per day.

Maybe something good will come out of this coronavirus business afterall.

I used to drink more soda than I do now. I used to like Diet-Rite. I always bought the 12-packs, and always had a can going. I'd pop it open, take a swig, and put it right back in the fridge. They were never in there long enough to go flat, and they were always cold!

FYI...a lot of stores (Walmart included) are limiting the items you can return. No foods, no drugs, and no makeup. The reasoning is that these products are more likely to be contaminated with the virus.

That sucks about the makeup.

Now I'm gonna be stuck with a ton of blush and mascara that really just isn't my color at all. Ouch

I only bought it because it was on sale and now I'm regretting it. Ermm

I do that too, but it doesn't last that long.

I usually need to guzzle most of a can.

I wish they'd sell canned soda in 16 oz."tall boys" like they do beer.

Before I go on my rant, let me suggest you buy those little cans of soda, like they give people in the hospital.  You can crack open 2 or 3 of those a day and not feel bad about it and you won't have flat or warm soda.

For years I used to have Diet Pepsi running in my veins and everyone kept warning me about how the sugar substitutes were slowly killing me, actually making me gain weight, blah, blah, blah.  I finally weaned myself off of it and now I just drink water all day.  I occasionally will order a soft drink if I go out for lunch, just for a treat.  I have noticed absolutely no difference in my weight, how I feel, nothing.  I don't know, maybe 10+ years of guzzling Pepsi isn't long enough to hurt you or maybe it's just a bunch of hype.  All I know is I'm getting sick of getting rid of things I enjoy because some phantom people in some phantom study say it's bad for me and a lot of others jump on the bandwagon because it makes them feel superior.  So goodbye cigarettes, soft drinks, red meat, fast food, white bread and whatever else I can't think of right now.  (okay, I get the cigarette thing)

Carol, I've talked about artificial sweeteners often on this site. Until I hear some actual proof of diet soda causing harm, I'm all for them. So far, all I've ever been able to find is that when rats consume 20,000 times the amount of a certain artificial sweetener that a human does in one day, they develop enlarged hypothalamusses (sp?). Or something like that. It's like the GMO scares. Monsters under the bed.

At least we know via scientific evidence that the real thing (sugar) causes tooth decay and diabetes.

I wouldn't buy the little cans because on a cost per oz basis, they are a terrible deal.

You're paying for the packaging.

Plus, I only buy the store brands and they only come in 2 liter bottles and 12 oz cans.

If the store brands would do the 16 oz plastic bottles in six-packs like the major brands do, I'd probably start getting those.

Algonquian, literally ‘person of the dirty water’, referring to the muddy Fox River.

We live on a channel that leads to the lower Fox River. These up river lakes and rivers are much calmer, cleaner and just closer to home.  All of this water helped to attract me to this area...and there is the little woman too! Embarrassed

Wisconsin grocers take varied steps to keep customers and employees healthy, safe amid coronavirus concerns

GREEN BAY - Wisconsin residents have been urged to stay home to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but there's at least one place where mass gatherings are unavoidable.

Are you taking a risk by going to the grocery store?

At one store, plexiglass dividers have been installed in checkout lanes to separate customers from baggers and cashiers, and customers wait in a separate line to be directed to checkout. At another, stickers on the floor keep customers six feet apart.

At WMN yesterday, for the first time, I wore a mask and safety glasses.

The mask was a light blue shop dust mask from Harbor Freight, but I also have a couple of old N95 masks left over from several years ago (2008 - 2012) when I was working as a hospital lab courier.

One of the N95's had no elastic head straps on it. I guess it was made to fit in something else. So I cut it into two pieces and put one half inside the dust mask, partially folded.

It was kind of uncomfortable until I adjusted it a bit. I pulled the inside (N95) piece up a bit so it stuck out of the top and shielded my nostrils, while I pulled the outer dust mask down so it just covered my mouth.

Made breathing much easier.

They say that those masks won't prevent you from getting the virus, just in spreading it to others if you already have the disease. But who knows. I don't think even the CDC knows for sure.

I had part of an N95 inside the dust mask.

Sprayed it with disinfectant prior to putting it on, too.

Gas prices in Cle Elum WA are down to $1.55/gallon. Ellensburg is 50-75c higher. Right before Inslee's Stay Home order went into effect, I went to a gas station in Cle Elum and put 7+ gallons in for less than $13.00. That hasn't been done here since Bush 43 was president. Too bad we are deep into a pandemic with nothing open!
Plexiglass barriers have been installed at checkouts in at least two grocery stores in Ellensburg. There's tape on the floors to remind people of the 6ft rule, and ALL returns are now denied. Reusable bags are now BANNED from one store due to germs, with 5 cent paper/plastic bag fees being discontinued. There are limits on a lot of items due to demand, and yet half of the stores are still out of items.
Many restaurants have closed shop even with the takeout/carryout only rule. Some went on for about a week and then closed for an indefinite period. A few restaurants are still open for delivery/takeout which is awesome.

Hiking trails are closed on WDFW/State Park/DNR land. BLM hikes are still open for now, along with Ellensburg city parks (playgrounds are closed).

Any non-essential stores are closed due to Inslee's order to shut down. This includes thrift stores.

WA has done a good job trying to flatten the curve, the charts look very promising. Maybe we can get out of this earlier than most states. But I don't see regular life returning for another 2-3 months at least.

I have been diagnosed with having Covid 19. I was tested after having several symptoms (high fever-chest congestion-dry cough-tremendous body aches-dizziness).
I am very lucky that I haven't been hospitalized. I have been in isolation for the past week, and I haven't been very happy about it, but I'm glad to have a mild case of this disease.

All I can say for everyone who is trying to avoid that disease is to please stay home. Avoid crowds completely. Stay with your loved ones.
Take care all....cheers!
