Subject: The Dead Zone - Random thoughts and ramblings
Date Posted: 27 Feb 2015 at 3:15pm
Ok, I've thought about starting a thread like this for a while now, so here goes. Sometimes this forum is completely dead. I, as well as many of you, come here expecting solace from an overworked and underpaid society that is overwhelmed with garbage. And by garbage, I mean Facebook, Twitter, hashtags, Google overload, etc. Anyways, I thought I would start a thread where anything goes. I know we have random music threads, as well as what did you do today threads. There are a bunch of them that encompass every subject. But I would like to try something else. A completely open thread to express any and all feelings. I would like for any and all political banter to not happen here, but where's the fun in that? Like I said, anything goes. Anyways, a totally free and open place to talk openly about anything. And I mean anything. Sex, drugs, rock and roll. And hell, even if you secretly like rap, it's OK to say it here. Anything goes in the dead zone..

I haven't seen The Dead Zone in around 25 years.

Well, I thought that the dead zone was aptly named for the fact that when this place is dead that anyone could post anything. No Steven King reference meant with the name.

I am pissed, though. I got donuts this morning on the way in and the lady gave me friggin' strawberry filled instead of chocolate filled like I asked.

As dead as this place has been getting lately, it ought to become a popular thread.
Of course, if the place is dead, there won't be anyone posting anyway, so by extension, the thread will also be dead.

I've become dependant upon this forum, especially in the AM. I'm up at 5 or earlier every day. After I take some vitamins, feed the cats, go outside for a smoke, and then turn on the news to make sure ISIS hasn't arrived in my neighborhood, I come upstairs to check emails and see what's up on CIH. So when, like this morning, when CIH seems to have been a dead zone for the previous 9 hours, I feel a tad let down. There's really not much else to do this early.
I guess I can go have another smoke.

Do you have a brand?
I go for whatever's cheap or on sale, as long as it's not that totally generic stuff---like Pyramid or Basics. Too harsh. Otherwise, I don't care. Some people prefer one brand over another. Not me. They're all the same to me.
I used to smoke in my house. No more. This has helped me cut down to about 1/3rd of what I used to smoke.

My brand is Winston, which is usually a little cheaper (by "little" I mean all of maybe 10-20 cents ) here than the other premium brands. The nearby Buc-ee's has them for $5.50.

I love fresh strawberries, but never liked artificial flavored e.g. strawberry jelly, ice cream, etc. I dunno why that is, it just is. Similarly, I love the smell of coconut, but hate the taste

My brand was/is Doral 100's.
I have around a full carton of them in my bottom fridge door that were purchased like 15 years ago or so.
Still good, too.

I just paid $4.42/pack for Marlboro Blacks the other day. I also occasionally get coupons for $1 off per pack. That'd bring it down to $3.42.

I roll my own. I buy a pound bag of "The Good Stuff". It's good for 2.5 -3 cartons. Tastes kind of like Marlboros. $16.69 a bag. Filter tubes are $2.59 a carton. But when I do buy, I go Pall Mall. I seem to smoke less of them because they last longer.
And yeah, I get the not smoking inside thing. I'm in the process of getting my apartment ready to paint, so once it's painted, no smoking inside.

I have a tobacco plant in my backyard right now that I'm trying to get rid of. My neighbor gave it to me when it was little more than a sprout. It's now fairly big. I think I'm gonna give it back to him.
After washing my walls and ceiling a few months back, I decided to stop smoking inside. You wouldn't believe how dirty it makes a room. After I cleaned, my walls and ceilings actually became a few shades brighter.

^^ I smoked in my first apartment which I lived at for 3 years, and in the living room my sofa was against one wall and the TV/entertainment stand was against the opposite wall. When I moved out you could see the outline of the furniture on the wall from the color contrast due to the smoke

Save the plant for the zombie apocalypse. Or just the apocalypse. And yeah, I had to clean a few spots on my walls. That's why I decided to repaint. I hate those clean, nicotine free spots.. I'm too lazy to scrub all the walls. Primer and paint. Lazy mans solution.

If I was faced with a zombie apocalypse, I'd make damned sure I stocked up on smokes. I don't know how Darryl only seems to smoke one occasionally.
I don't know why people who quit smoking years ago, don't start up again when they're 70 or 75. I mean, at that point, why not?

I never understood that about Darryl either. He must enjoy them in a way we can't comprehend. I suppose walkers will do that to ya. Just survive until the next smoke.
If I ever quit, I don't think I'd start again. I'd hock stuff like Jack LaLanne. Be in my 80's-90's and selling juicers.

This is a pic of the ceiling in my computer room (which is painted pale yellow). I left a smoke stain as a reminder. You can see it as a square towards the lower right of the pic.

Some girl had a disagreement with someone over the color of a dress in a picture, so she tweeted for help in determining what the real color was.
Some saw it as blue & black while others saw it as white & gold.
It blew up & went viral with something like 30 million responses.
They said on the news that it had something to do with the exposure of the pic different people were looking at, but that makes no sense because it's the same digital pic.
Probably the different screen settings of different computers/tablets/phones.

It looks like it's somewhat reflective, too.
I remember iridescent clothes in the mid-60s. From one angle, it'd be maroon. From another angle, it'd be green or something. Then there were those flip-flop paintjobs that people were having done to their cars not too long ago. I saw one that was actually kinda freaky.

So the wife listens to this radio station called 105.5 wjyy that plays a mix of music. Rock, rap, pop, etc. Always seems to have more rap\ hip hop on though. I always tease her about it because I hate rap and hip hop. So I got to thinking of what sounds I could hear and have it be less painful to listen to. I finally came to the startling revelation that I would rather listen to the sounds of my bones slowly being broken. At least then there would actually be an instrument being played, even if it is me...

Improvement, no?
As we listen to your cartilage ripping, will we also hear you scream-singing piccolo, soprano, or tenor?
I guess it would depend on which "bone" they started with...

Thought this was interesting. Brings up the question of what really happens when we die.
I've always been fascinated by death but understandably afraid.

Some fun points:
The Chainsaw was invented to widen the pelvis is a woman took too long during her labour.
Think about that, ladies, then go beat your husbands over the head with a chainsaw if they own one.
Imagine every star in the galaxy had a trillion planets orbiting it...and every planet had a trillion people on it, and every person had a trillion decks of cards, and shuffled them 1,000 times a second since the big bang, they'd only just recently be making decks that existed already.
The mathematical chances of a specific order of cards occurring each shuffle is:
So, forget synthesizing eggs from skin cells, forget curing cancer, forget turning coal into gold...if you want to feel like god, and create something that has never - even once - existed in the universe before...go shuffle a deck of cards.

I washed both vehicles this morning, darn heater out there is working flawlessly now, knock on wood.
Bright and sunny now but some snow is moving in tomorrow morning.
I'm a little annoyed with Am Fam, they want to send someone to our house for an inspection.
Great, when State Farm did this I got pissed and wouldn't let the guy on my roof.
Then, today I get this 2 page survey from Am Fam, how the hell can I grade your performance when we have never made a claim. God, I despise insurance companies.

I see a cursor and a "watermark" of some dot com I can't make out. Almost looks like screen capture video.

^ The watermark is "www.fraps.com".
I don't see any dead pixel. But if there is one, I hope it didn't suffer.

The faithful departed pixel is in the very top left corner. If the drop down video title is down, then it covers it up.
It's red, so it must have died a pretty bloody and horrific death

Its a cursor, I recognize the shape! The watermark is "fraps.com" I guess this a video that was recorded off a computer.
Oh! the red thing! that a red flashing "60" no clue what it means or what its for.

Ad already figured it out while I was making my post, but I blew it up to full screen and watched, and it's not a dead pixel - it's a quickly flashing number (most likely the FPS rate while the dude was recording it on fraps). It mostly stays at 60, but drops to 59 and 58 a couple times toward the final few seconds.
Here it is expanded:
If that's what Jimbo was talking about and what I thought too, that's actually what that is. The other 2 things of course are the arrow cursor and fraps watermark.
So, there are no dead pixels after all! (goddamn talk about random thoughts/solved mysteries )

I watched the vid on my little tablet so the cursor looked like a small white dot, similar to a dead pixel.

I want. I really, really want. Anyone want to go in on this? I think I have around a hundred bucks to spare... Maybe $1000. . Plenty of apartments and real estate. Could even do some sort of zombie theme park...
How cool would it be? We could have a Rick lookalike as the sheriff. Or an evil guvnah...

Okay, maybe somebody can help me here.
There was a commercial that an old man was ogling, making comments about a daughters friend?
There is a new one out, I only saw it once and I don't have a clue. Help!
