I hear Terry Gilliam has a new movie in the works that's supposed to skewer totalitarian politics.
For whatever reason it's going to be called "Brazil" but if it's as good as last year's "Time Bandits" I'll definitely be in a seat to see it.
Should be released next year

Van Halen's new album is alright, but that Jump song is so f**king gay. I'm tired of hearing it on the radio, but my girlfriend likes it. She's into that new wave stuff. Anyway, pass me an Old Milwaukee.

Anyone see that new Springsteen video Dancing in the Dark on MTV??

He pulls some cute young girl out of the audience & dances with her on stage.

I read that it was all staged & that the girl is an as yet unknown hired actress named Courtney Cox.

How much ya wanna bet that after this, you'll be seeing her star in some TV show or something?

I hope they don't start over playing Phil Collins.

It would suck if it gets to where you can't turn on the radio without hearing a Phil Collins song.

Wedding set for early next year.

There were a couple of Genesis songs I still like today, Mike and the Mechanics was a spin off of former band members.

Wow, that Janet Jackson is sure off to a bad start in singing! Two flop albums in a row, her Debut album in 1982 and Dream Street in 1984! Hopefully the third time is the charm for her as the saying goes, or she will go the way of Disco! Her third album be needs to be a mega hit album for her to survive in the music business....

^ Michael Jackson's skin color appears to be gradually getting lighter. I think his skin color was a slightly darker skin color in Off The Wall (1979-1980) era compared to his current Thriller era(1982-1984)looks like he is about 2 shades lighter now. Also, his nose is definitely small in Thriller era than off The Wall where his nose was big. If he is doing plastic surgeryand llightening his skin, he'd better stop now when he still looks good rather than looking like a scary freak later on...

Hey... what's the deal with all these rock bands sporting that "big hair" look all of a sudden???

They all seem to look & sound the same.

It's practically all you see on MTV anymore.

I sure hope that new "rap" stuff the black guys are doing doesn't catch on.

Those striped track suits they wear with the giant jewelry around their necks looks so goofy.

I remember expecting the music to be as outrageous as the look, but it didn't turn out that way.  It was pretty uninteresting stuff, for the most part.  Alice Cooper, it wasn't.  But some of that stuff was kinda fun.  I kinda liked Twisted Sister, but even then, it was more for their videos than for their music.

This thing is totally rad Big smile  Of course it has both AM and FM and can run either on a plug or batteries (It takes 6 D batteries). Also, it can not only play tapes but record as well!  Now whenever a good song comes on the radio I can record it and listen to it anytime I want instead of waiting for the station to play it again. That's sharp!
I needed the turntable too so I stopped by Radio Shack and scored a nice Clarinette-102 for only $299.99
It not only plays all my LPs but I can record them to cassette (always use chrome tape!) and it's got an 8-track. It records to 8-track as well!
Should be the last entertainment system I'll ever need!

Sg, what's an Iphone? I've never heard of an IPhone in 1984.... Maybe I'm behind the times......

Maybe if I type more slowly.

My   first   car   tape   player   was   a   4 track.   That   format   lasted   about   as   long   as   the   latest   greatest   I-phone    does   now.

Relax.

We went to an auto show a few weeks ago and KITT was on display. I got to sit in the driver's seat and have my picture taken. Big smile

(Disclaimer - That did really happen, though it may not have actually been in '84. I don't remember for sure but I think I was 9 or 10, which means that auto show would've been in '85 or '86.  It's all arbitrary anyhow)

I also got to see and sit in it, but I think that that was in 91 or 92 at Universal Studios Hollywood. I was around 12.

Say something clever here...

No, I'm too lazy. Imagine it yourself.

I'm relaxed. I just thought I clarified that my comparison of a short lived decades old product can be compared to a short lived modern product. My use of the 4 track was in 1970. I guess it doesn't qualify. Aka Ron's 4 track from a returning Viet Nam vet could be no newer than 1975. I guess it doesn't qualify. I will attempt to fix mine. My 16 y/o Stepson thought Michael Jackson's Thriller was super cool. I realize the video was released December 2nd 1983. He used his Christmas money and saved more to buy an awful vinyl thriller jacket for $50 in January 1984. Less than one Month later he would not have been caught dead wearing that POS. Is that closer to the spirit of the thread?

No.

What I meant was that Sandra was just playing around with you. Pretending that she was still living in the year 1984 & hence, did not even know what an iPhone is.

Y'know... because in this thread, it's still only 1984.

Therefore, what I meant by "the spirit of the thread".

I keep hearing about some famine in Ethiopia, but I went to a restaurant the other day on Haight Street that said it served "Ethiopian Cuisine" and the portions were quite nice.  Furthermore, no one there had flies coming out of their nose.  I guess the famine's over.

I've been hearing a lot of Ethiopian jokes too.

Q.) How do you recognize an Ethiopian drug dealer?

A.) He's the one wearing a Rolex watch... around his waist.

Q.) What do you call an Ethiopian taking a dump on the side of the road?

A.) Show off.

Hey, maybe it's all a scam.  Maybe it's just the latest look.  As a matter of fact, I'm seeing a lotta gay guys in San Francisco these days sportin' that same look.

What look are you talking about?

Malnourished & starving?

I though that was what fashion models were into.

Jimbo, thank you. I thought it was obvious that I was pretending to be in 1984 and would not know what an IPhone was when I posted that...
