Why didn't Nerf make cool toys like this when I was a kid? I remember the Nerf Ball. A little indoor basketball until somebody gets a bloody nose from flying elbows. Wouldn't it be cool if we had a virtual Nerf gun fight here at the forum? If you disagree with another member or get offended, you just sneak up on them and shoot them in the ass! ![]() For today's kids? Just grooming the next mass murderer! |

Yeah, those are cool toys but they probably do reinforce violent urges in some kids.
I guess I can't be too critical though, because toy guns have been a staple of boys' Christmas presents for decades. I remember my toy Thompson sub-machine gun and all my Zero-M gadgets, all of which turned into guns at the push of a button. And my combat equipped G.I. Joes. I wish I still had all that stuff. It's worth a small fortune nowadays!!! |

My folks got me one of these but took it away so I wouldn't accidentally hurt my little brother. Or he taking it and doing something to me.

In case anyone doesn't recognize him, the kid in the commercial is a young Kurt Russell.
I never had one of those blaster things, though. I had the camera pistol, the jack knife pistol and the radio rifle.

After seeing this for the 436th time, I have more to add! What kind of f*cking family is this..."Hey everybody, watch this!" Uncle Bob is a little creepy and I bet he's screwing the alpha female, who wears the pants in the family. ![]() And, don't even get me started on Grandma!

And people wonder why we live in such a gun crazed society with a new mass shooting almost every month.

^ I hadn't heard about that until this morning. A lot more violent crime closer to Milwaukee. Wisconsin special education teacher restrained student who pulled a gun, wife saysMILWAUKEE – Linda Ager was out to lunch with a friend Monday when she received a phone call from her husband, Brett Hart, a special education teacher at Waukesha South High School in Wisconsin. "He didn't say much," Ager told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network. "He just said there had been an incident at school and that there were rumors that he had been hurt, and that he was OK." A city police officer inside the high school had shot a 17-year-old student who pulled a gun in a classroom and refused to drop it, according to police. The student was taken into custody and was the only person injured in the incident, police said. Ager said the incident took place in her husband's classroom. "There was an altercation between students, and he stepped in between the students," Ager said. |

There's also Jimmy "Mouth of the South" Hart, not only a big name in pro-wrestling, but also a member of the Gentrys (Keep on Dancin'), a big hit in the 60s.
Goddam, I sure do know some useless trivia. |

When I was in college, our dorm got a game of assassin going. A bunch of us went out and bought those plastic guns that shoot plastic discs. I don't know if they still exist. This was the 80s. Everyone's name goes into bucket and everyone draws a name. The goal was to shoot your target. When you successfully "killed" your target, you took the name that they got. Last man standing wins. It was fun. I got knocked out pretty quickly because I was good friends with my target and didn't want to shoot him.
I can only imagine how that would go these days. It probably wouldn't be long before someone got shot by school security. Different times back then.

Cap guns were popular back in the 60s too. I never thought about taking it to school. Today? Get shot, ask questions later! ![]() |

![]() I remember when they came out with a "new" style of cap pistol that, instead of being modeled after the old western cowboy style Colt 45 six shooter, it was modeled after the 20th century snub-nosed 38. And instead of the paper caps on a roll that fed through like film through a projector, it used little red plastic cup shaped caps that fit over the ends of little metal posts inside the cylinder. I had both kinds for awhile at different times. |
