Every couple of years, Mitsubishi does a new series of radio ads.  The guy who does the commercials practically mocks every person he is talking to, as if they are the stupidest person on Earth for not buying a Mitsubishi.  The voice on this guy is gravelly and irritating and for that reason, I boycott even thinking of purchasing one of their vehicles.  I don't know why they continue to do the same thing every couple of years, but this is one voice over I'd like to punch out if I saw his face.  Most annoying radio commercial.

I remember the annoying radio ads done in the 1990s which had the forgettable slogan..."GET THAT GOOD DEAL FEELING...MITSUBISHI", followed by the announcer saying "...at your (local area) Mitsubishi dealers."  Usually I heard these ads in Dallas, Southern California and Indianapolis, since I worked over a dozen years at a broadcasting research firm whose primary client was AC Nielsen, the TV ratings folks.

Not sure if its the same campaign....do you remember the voice being gravelly?  Do you have these ads on your local radio stations now ? I live near New York, so I get the brunt of advertising being jammed down all of our throats. One of the newest ones is a take off on the American Idol theme...I might have heard those ads in the 90s that you refer to, but perhaps they didn't jump out at me..most of the time if I am listening to music on the radio, I flip over till I find a song  I like = in the car.  But in the house I have a radio going before leaving for work to get the traffic reports, etc..and I don't flip as much and this Mitsubishi guy comes on every single morning several times an hour.....aaaaaaaaaaargggh !!!!!!!

That must have been a fascinating job, no ?  I've always had an interest in how broadcasting, programming, ratings, and just how radio works to reach people....did you enjoy the job ?  I find it fascinating to read the different types of ads people complain about on this and the TV forum, especially the ones from far away states that I never hear because we don't have that specific store, or restaurant in this area ( jack in the box for example..)

I no longer hear the Mitsubishi car commercials with the annoying gravelly voice, but I remember they were quite annoying, especially when listening to them on recorded tapes at work.  Until my last year at the company I worked, we used Dictaphone equipment, which got replaced by MP3 technology.  A year later, my job was outsourced to India; the following year, I graded English test papers for CTB/McGraw-Hill, which also began outsourcing its work to India.  Sorry I haven't been online because of equipment failure back in Indianapolis, which underwent tornado damage over this weekend.  Until I can get my Internet service restored at home, I have to use the facilities at the public library.  Hope to be back online soon.

I actually liked the 'gravelly voiced' guy. His sound stood out from other car voice-over guys I remember.  In the Bay Area, there's some guy doing a bad German accent, calling himself 'Dieter', a 'German luxury car' mechanic, who tries to convince people to buy generic 'German' cars that always need repairs, rather than whatever (Japanese) car the ad is actually selling. He's been doing this for at least 20 years! And then, of course, the short-lived 'Doctor Z' for DaimlerChrysler...also named Dieter!
