OK CIHers, now don't hate me for this, but I think that beverage manufacturers have missed a big advertising spot on their beverage containers.
I was watching the news where they showed an athlete drinking a soda.
It occurs to me that when someone holds a soda bottle or can, their hand blocks the label from being seen, but when they lift it to drink, the whole bottom of the bottle or can is blank.
This is the missed opportunity. I'm surprised they don't have their brand name emblazoned on the bottom of the bottle or can just as they now put the brand on the side of grand pianos.
When a person lifts it to drink, the brand is clearly displayed.
The only caveat is that it would not necessarily be positioned upright.

MM00, I think you should basically whack your post and go see if you can protect your idea, create a few logical samples, pitch them (even think of 'Shark Tank') as soon as possible - seriously. As silly as it may sound, it's a very good idea.

Would probably increase production costs more than it's worth.

Logo stickers/adhesive labels would be cheap.

In the UK alone, Coca Cola produces 2.6 BILLION cans of drinks a year. Even at a mere penny a sticker, that sh*t would add up fast.

Thanks PaW, however at this point if someone steals the idea this post is my evidence of when I came up with the idea.

The funny thing is that I was the first person to tie a ribbon on his luggage. Look what happened to that idea. Within a year, almost every single piece of luggage I saw had a ribbon tied on it.

The necker and flanger would mess up anything stamped on the bottom during the inking phase:

Not only that, but if you've ever looked at the bottom of a soda  can....

...you can see how concave it is.

Seems like it would be a lot of trouble to apply ink or a sticker onto it.

Either way it would likely be an extra expense that would eat farther into production costs than it would generate in increased sales.

The inkers would have to be exactly matched to the concave of the can, and press directly upward (assuming the can was upright) because any kind of rolling action would smear in the curve, meaning you'd need an entirely new and dedicated machine(s).

Stickers could be more cost effective in theory, but you'd still need a machine (or machines), and then there's the problems that adhesives could cause further down the line... that line going all the way to the end to the recycling process.

Patent it, Musicman... Don't be the idiot who had a great idea, and let his mother talk him into telling him it would never catch on, and is now a hot seller in stores..
My name is Donathan, pronounced the same way you pronounce Jonathan, except with a D. :D $608 for her brother's scooter. Fair is fair my ass. Being tough on Public Access TV is priceless.

That & it just wouldn't do much to increase their product recognition to a higher level than it already is.

Most people wouldn't even notice.

They have enough advertising I think.

Lot of effort & expense to accomplish very little.

There are always naysayers whom can't think outside the box.

I've watched a lot of how it's made. They come up with very creative ways to solve problems that people like you think are impossible. Wink

I don't think anyone is saying it's impossible, just that the limited benefit would not justify the expense & effort.

Why go through all that just to put a logo on an area of the can that is only seen for a second or two while somebody is tipping it up to take a drink?

Kinda redundant, really.

I think waaay outside the box, uncomfortably so for most, and I never said it was impossible, just expensive. If you're going to insult someone's ability to think creatively, read what they said first. If anything, I was troubleshooting the idea.

Now I feel a lot less inclined to mention the other pitfalls you're going to run into trying to sell the idea to Coca Cola, so I'll let you go on your merry.

Good luck.

Thinking outside the box, in the area of advertising anyway, was the guy who came up with the idea of putting advertising on the inside of public toilet stall doors.

Because really, where else would you find a more "captive audience"?

There were a few magazine & newspaper articles about it some years back.

Guess they're doing it in some places, though I've never seen it.

And it seems someone has taken the idea one step further... advertising on toilet paper!!!!

How apropos.

I wouldn't want to drag that bunch of ink over my... never mind.

I haven't seen ads on stall doors yet, though I admittedly use public heads pretty rarely. One place I have seen them is on the inside of shopping carts, because they know you're going to walk through the whole store staring at that space.

Shouldn't that bathroom stall ad read "See you again same time tommorow"?

Ads on toilet paper? Nononono!
