Apparently it's required now:
Here, Honey, let ME strike that match.
And these 8 million sprinkles...
What if Mama won't let me drive?
I'll fall over backward and you catch me.
And these 8 thousand candies represent...
Those minutes were old; I threw them away.
and many, many more.

Yes, that does get a bit annoying... I don't see why someone always has to look stupid on television in order to sell something I probably won't buy.

Women LOVE to see on a commercial what they "know" already, which is that men are stupid. So, it gets their attention immediatly and I guess they feel good about a product that has a commercial they can "relate" to. Plus, I think women do more of the shopping for those items.
I, for one am sick of these type of commercials, and I think it just reinforces some women's notions that men are stupid. Like I stated in another post, women...think about this! What would you do if all the stupid men were gone? Who would fix the cars, clean the sewers, build the highways, collect the trash, mow the grass, drive the trucks, and on and on!! God knows most women wouldn't "lower" themselves to do those jobs. So, until I see alot more women doing these very necessary jobs, they need to shut the H*#l up and give men a little more respect. |

Well, women would probably just do those jobs themselves. It's not like I couldn't learn how to fix a car myself instead of having someone charge me extra for it. And I can fix my computer for the most part. Grass doesn't need to be mown, I'm against well manicured lawns.
We should probably just respect each other. If all of the women were gone, and the babies were left behind, who'd have to change the diapers? Changing diapers is extremely icky and messy and just plain gross, especially when a baby has an ear infection and needs medicine for that. Grossest thing EVER. Taking care of kids is probably harder or as hard as all of those jobs. They ought to just have smart men and smart women commercials, but some people might find it boring not to have conflict -_- Now to force myself to clean the floor. |

I think the moral of the story from the 2 previous posts is that while men and women could (and in fact, do, in many cases) each other's "jobs," at the end of the day, men and women (in general) do need each other, regardless of how much either may deny it, and regardless of how much either may belittle the other.
But think about it... How often do you see a stoopid man in commercials/TV/movies? How often do you see a stoopid woman in commercials/TV/movies? Why is it socially acceptable to portray men this way but not women? The point of the OP is that there is an overabundance of stoopid man stereotypes out there, and it's really getting old and irritating.

I don't know... perhaps it's one of the tenets of comedy. Making fun of those that are considered powerful by making them look like buffoons.
There's all sorts of ditzy women in movies. Tons of them. And there always has to be a show with a housewife who has a sister that is single and has trouble with men. Why is that? |

I've met and known lots of stupid men in real life.
And they all seem like geniuses compared to the men in commercials these days. |

Just so ya know, I totally agree that women do things that men couldn't or wouldn't do. I respect them totally for that, as I think most men do. Us men just get sick to death of being run down over and over in commercials and even tv shows. You try doing that to women, and you get the libs all mad and there's hell to pay.
Men need to respect what women do, and women need to respect what men do!!! And let's not try too hard to demand that women do jobs men are best at and men do jobs women are best at. Having said that, I have absolutely no problem with, say, women working consturction (if they are good at it), or, say, men styling hair. Men are just getting sick of getting the short end of the stick when it comes to being made of on tv. |

I wonder what the effect the "stupid man" in commercials might have on kids. I imagine that if they're in a cohesive family unit, they know it's an inaccurate portrayal. But if they just live with their single mother, and they see all these commercials, it's possible they grow up thinking fathers are unnecessary and useless, 'cept for sperm cells and child support.

Some sort of 'Lift'?

Even though I am female, I hate these commercials. They are just mostly not funny. It is played out and old. I guess it has come to degrading men from the way women were degraded in commercials years ago. Case in point...

This genre of commercials got old really fast. I can't stand the ads that feature men looking and/or acting stupid and the women being condescending beeyotches. Do women like this really exist and if they do, how come they get the guys? Perhaps there's a society out there that caters to domineering women and men who like to be cuckolded.

I know this is about daddy issues now and not so much the commercials, but if they're watching the commercials without anyone or anything (like, oh I don't know, a father) to tell them that it's not an accurate portrayal, maybe THAT'S what'll make them think fathers are unnecessary and useless... And like someone else said, there are plenty of ditzy women being portrayed too. Just because our stoopid stereotype differs from men's doesn't mean we don't have one. |

That's what I have often asked myself. If women think their man is so stupid, just leave. And you are right about the older commercials. I don't think either men or women should be made to look stupid to sell a God Dang product. It's all about the money, isn't it? We're all getting upset and complaining because some execs somewhere decided to sell their product and make millions, they need to make someone look stupid. I'm really glad we have CIH to share our frustrations!! |

When I read that, it made me think of Everybody Loves Raymond and how his wife can be so bitchy at times, and how he can be so stupid at times. Course it's just a tv show, I'm sure that doesn't happen in real life. |
