Debbie Meyer Green Bags.  OMG...Are you kidding me?  Newsflash...if you aren't going to eat your fresh veggies within 3-4 days...5 max, of purchasing them...good grief.  Where the heck do you live, the YUKON?

I wish by law, farmstands or small markets were required in every town to supply locally grown, in season produce only.

It was either Home Shopping or QVC who were excited about hawking  this product.  Forunately they have consumer votes on the sites and as I recall these "Green Bags" were more like "Rotter-bags".  http://www.infomercialratings.com/product/green_bags_reviews

I actually have these, and they work. Sorta. I don't know about weeks, but bananas that usually go bad within two days last four. At least mine do. I don't buy fresh vegetables, so I cannot speak to that.

You can refrigerate bananas.  The peel turns black, but the fruit stays good.

What are you supposed to do with the black banana peels--smoke them?

The product is a ridiculous concept, to me anyway.  Even if you did keep strawberries, or other assorted fruits and vegetables for, let's say 10 days...I wouldn't want to eat them.  Even if they L@@ked good.

Frozen, they taste like a creamy popsicle.   If you've found some that are "banana bread material" and can't get around  to making said banana bread you also freeze them for later use.

Exactly.  If you have to go through herculean efforts to try to make your fruit last three months, maybe you need to reassess why you're buying your fruit!   Either that, or start canning....

oooh, I wanted to buy some too.  They sell them at walgreens.  I was thinking that I could put my salad stuff in them.  I would like to eat salads throughout the week instead of frozen pizzas and crap like that but everything goes bad in a day or two.  I am glad that I didn't waste my money.

I only buy a couple of bananas at a time. I try for a green one, a yellowish green one and a yellow one.

If I have to break up a "bunch" to get my desired results, so be it. I figure it's my money. I DO refrain from doing this with grapes, though!

Off tangent a bit - does your grocery stores now "bag" loose fruit - like cherries or grapes? I don't need 4 pounds of cherries  and I prefer to choose my own. But the grocery stores around me have them pre-bagged now. I don't care for this practice at all.

In time it will not really be a law per se, but we are approaching this more and more due to rising fuel costs, shipping issues, and food safety recalls.

I buy HomeLife plasticware, a couple bucks cheaper than Glad or Ziplock.  They last me forever so I'm not continuously buying and dumping plastic into the trash system.

msdeli, if you want to keep salad stuff, when you come home, just prep everything and throw it into an airtight container.  It works just as well.  But you don't really want to keep any kind of produce for longer than 5 days from time of purchase...depending on what it is.  For the sake of keeping everyone awake reading the post, I won't go into hearty veg vs. delicate ones...lol.

I don't think GreenBags would wash up very well, therefore, forcing you to just keep spending money and throwing them into our already overloaded recycling issue.

I make a salad in a big steel mixing bowl - not the prettiest and I wouldn't use it for guests, but it keeps the salad for a good 3 days so if it's just my husband and me who cares?

I hate wasting food. That's a huge pet peeve with me.

Banana shakes!!  Banana, milk, blender.

Minutes ago, I had a watermelon shake.  The watermelon I bought tasted good, but didn't have a good consistency.  Watermelon, milk, blender, and maybe some Reddi-Whip.  It's really good.

Where?  When?

Wherever it is---thanks, Brita!  Someone once pointed out that "it must be the Italian" in me.  Big beverage fans, them Itals.  Most people aren't real big fans of such concoctions.  Coke, Pepsi, 7Up.  That's what people stick with.  And so do I---but even these I doctor up.  A little bit of coconut flavoring in a can of Coke is pretty damned good!!

I think I'm gonna go have some licorice soda right now.

Vanilla works too.  Be careful though.  A little goes a long way.

Um, it may taste good, but watermelon and milk sounds awful. Then again, you don't drink the sound.

I don't have much room in my fridge. Maybe it's the dryness, but here in AZ the bananas I buy are mostly green and only last 2 days. Turning them into a shake won't work for me, as I'm lactose intolerant (please don't try to tell me there is no such thing).

"Debby Meyer's Everrotten Black Bags"...that's what I call them. Confused
I almost bought a set of these for my sister, who goes through a considerable amount of fresh vegetables & fruit - and ends up throwing a lot of them in the garbage can. AngryOuchAngry
