Talk about double standards in this ad! I know how women are portrayed stereotypically in the media, but imagine if there were two huge, strong, burly male security guards with a female (tennis star or everyday person) walking through security. It would be okay to do the flirting bit, of course, but to suggest a strip search and the other crap? The male guards would immediately be labeled as pervs (who, of course, only want one thing) and some woman's group would be all over this. It is all fine and playful fun if a guy is the subject of a 2-on-1 strip search like this. ![]() Also, is anyone even allowed to bring that much chocolate on an airplane, even in checked luggage?!? Wouldn't it melt? Why do the women eat the chocolate? Imagine if it was laced with poison or something! I'm sure a real TSA agent would NEVER EVER eat anything in traveler's luggage. I guess the ad could be worse...the women don't look up as they bite into the orgasmic-quality chocolate. |

Welcome to Commercial Land. This is a magical place where all women look up while eating, and it is perfectly acceptable to slurp the hell out of a Dannon yogurt cup.

*I* think this commercial has some basis in actual fact, even though it sucks....it reminded me of the following:
There really ARE international laws in effect about how much chocolate one can bring into a country.
One instance/good example:
Back in the '60's (I believe it was), there was a real-life incident where a Russian diplomat/spy and his wife attempted to cross an airline checkpoint/border with one chocolate bar too many. He had, I believe 3 large bars, but was allowed two through customs.
One bar had some microfilm inside of it - hid didn't really know which bar.
He made a public spectacle by deciding to eat an entire bar in front of the customs agents, just so he and his wife could continue through.
He was a 'popular figure', anyway - and this was 'T.V.-worthy' - he took TOTAL advantage to make a fun-loving scene. It worked - he chose the wrong bar (it was solid chocolate).
He and his wife passed though.
NOW...having said all of that...
"Russian Chocolate" is indeed WONDERFUL; the Swiss have nothing on the Russians, here - it is simply some of the BEST - and I'll GLADLY consume an entire bar, ANY opportunity that presents itself (I buy tons of it, whenever in Chicago, or abroad - but I mail it).

First let me say this, Lint Lindor Truffles, are, like, the best chocolate.
![]() OK, now that's out of the way, I think the eating of the chocolate and the keeping of the chocolate by security was clever.
Had the eliminated the chicks checking out the dude part, it would have been a decent commercial.
The fact is the second part really does a disservice to the product advertised.
If the security guards were absolutely professional in every other way, the viewer would think, wow they were very professonal, but just couldn't be professional enough to resist confiscating the chocolate. The chocolate must be really good.
As the commercial is now, they look like unprofessional losers who would have taken anything from anybody, whether real good or not.

If the participant's genders were reversed there would be such an uproar over this it would be yanked before even airing once.

I hate Lindt already because they are one of the worst "females reacting sexually to a product" offenders. BAH! This commercial is *almost* as bad. Look at the Lindt chocolate bunny commercial Roger Federer made, which IIRC was not shown in the US, compare. Judging by how many well-written ads are only shown in other markets, looks like either (a) US ad agencies employ only tools, (b) corporations believe all US consumers are tools, (c) both of the above.
My godson is a TSA officer and he already has anger issues...you can probably imagine how pissed off he is about this ad. Just don't try to go through LAX Mon.-Thur. carrying Lindor truffles. A word to the wise! ![]() |

Guys, the guy is Roger Federer and this commercial is tongue-in-cheek, in part to recognize that Roger is widely adored by tennis fans (by men as well as women). It's also not the same as if the roles are reversed because the power issues between the sexes are very different. Have the chocolate of your choice, and chill.

I should have also added that, with his own plane, Roger has probably not stepped foot inside a commercial airport in 10 years. So it's clear this commercial is not serious.
