(Updated for 2015. Aren't you lucky? Wacko)

More tax commercials from H & R Block! Joy! Ermm

I remember this old fart with the bow tie from last year's ad onslaught. (And the year before!) Now he's claiming that there's BILLIONS OF DOLLARS left behind when we do our own taxes. That's roughly about... what, 10 bucks per person? I'm no mathematician, but I hardly think that's worth having a so-called expert do your taxes, when what we each get back doesn't even cover the guy's fee.

A-DERP-DEE-DERRRRRRRRRR! Pinch

By the way... who the heck is "Sarah?" Confused

H&R Block got my ex in a world of tax trouble one year.  I do his taxes now (they're easy), and get paid in gyros when we visit Illinois.Smile

Wonder if H & R Block spent a billion dollars on these stupid commercials.  They're really over the top.

It would be much more interesting if it was cocaine falling from the sky. Then america might get its money back in street value.

Ha ha...a bow tie is now the symbol of H&R Block. Ha ha.
I also hate this guy.

Sort of interesting how it's so un-PC to use stereotypes anymore...except for CPAs, as these ads demonstrate. This guy irritates me too.

I'd never go to Block unless I personally knew the preparer. Several years back I had a co-worker who did taxes at block. She knew her stuff, and freely admitted that many of the other preparers at her Block office did not.
Hundreds of threads killed.

I went to H & R Block once. Never again. They never even asked if I had any charitable contributions to deduct. I had to bring it up. That's just incompetent.

According to IRS page, in 2009 there was 131,543,000 filings, so break a bil across that and you're looking at a grand total of.....

$7.60 per person.

Get your almost eight dollars back, America!

These commercials are annoying but the poor little nerdy bow tied accountant was the skinny kid with the coke bottle glasses who got bullied by both sexes and his only sexual experience is whipping his skippy with one hand while cranking that old school adding machine with his other hand.

Zippy, that sounded disturbingly personal. Something you want to lie down and talk about?

P.S. Bowties are cool.

Annoying ass ads. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I could care less that the government keeps a billion dollars it isn't technically entitled to. Most civilized nations pay far more in taxes and have a higher quality of life, we should really stop whining about taxes in general.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

To top it off, only 1 in 5 had left money behind, so there's an 80% chance you don't need any help anyway. Turbo tax says you are smart enough to file your own taxes and unless you have a complicated situation it's true.

No you aren't in the minority at all. I'm sure the majority of Americans, despite higher unemployment and the ACA being the biggest tax increase in US history, would love increased taxes!...!herp derp!

Let's say somehow H&R Block finds only the people who screwed up and gets those people their money back.  What huge percent of that "money back" will H&R keep?  Maybe a more honest statement would be: Get your money back America, so we can keep a big chunk of it at H&R Block.

For those of you who know little about H&R, they were at one time a nice family-run business, and acted like it even when they got big.  The Block bothers (actually spelled Bloch) really did care about their employees and keeping the prices down.

All that changed when they retired and Warren Buffet took controlling interest and brought in the suits from American Express to run things.  Now they treat their employees like any other big conglomerate, low pay and reduced commissions and bonuses, and are about as unscrupulous as the big banks.  And their motto on their prices should be: Raise them until they holler, and then raise them yet again.

Meanwhile Buffet acts like he's the great social capitalist, worried about the small people.  Give back your Block employees their proper commissions and bonuses, why don't you, Mr Wonderful?

Actually, many would.  As long as it's someone else paying them.
