One of the biggest traditions of the upcoming Holidays was a stopover at a HESS Gas Station to purchase the Toy Trucks they used to sell each year. Smile

Earlier this year it was announced they were no longer going to sell them at their stations, Most of which they sold to SPEEDWAY (Who Used to sell their own "Coca-Cola" Toy Trucks (They stopped this in 2007). Instead, they announced sales would be online beginning Yesterday, and a some select Malls in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey or Connecticut on Friday, November 12. I guess they weren't prepared for what would happen next, as their computer CRASHED when the online sales began. They've also shut down their phone lines so they won't have to put up with irate customers. Angry

I shudder to think what might happen if they can't get this issue resolved by November 12. I see "Black-Friday" style mobs at the malls where these trucks are to be sold, and possible rioting. Shocked

Who in the name of heaven decided to change this system? It certainly wasn't broke, so why did they try to "Fix" it? I think HESS needs to apologize, then go back to selling these trucks at Gas Stations, even if they need to negotiate with SPEEDWAY.

Reg, just letting you know I'm heading to Albany and Buffalo - always TONS of HESS stations and large malls...like I predict Maddy will say in the very next post - one of us should be able to put you in contact with one for about $90.

Reg, if I can get my hands on one I'll PM you and ship. BUT WSIT! THere's more! We'll add a substation for FREE. Just pay extra shipping and handling charges of $89.99 and you get all of these trucks PLUS the substation.

Seriously, I will PM you if I can find any.

Oh great, just out of sarcasm I now want to sculpt a Big Daddy Roth-type creature that you can place in the driver's seat of HESS trucks (though you'll have to Sawzall off the roof to put it in, but that's no big deal... LOL )    So, what model scale(s) are we talking about here..?  Wink

After waiting almost four hours in their "Virtual Que" I FINALLY was able to order three of these little buggers.

IMHO this is the biggest FUBAR to occur since the Election Fiasco of 2000 (Gracias Elian! - Presidente George W Bush, Curse You Janet! - Al Gore). LOL

Just to squeeze out an extra megabuck to their shareholders. I hope Santa BURIES them under TONS OF COAL for this debacle. Angry

Looks like Hess is going through some major changes in its business structure.  I'm guessing that within a few years, your Hess toy trucks will say Speedway on them instead.

From Wikipedia:
Following the closure of the acquisition in late 2014, all Hess gas stations will be rebranded as Speedway gas stations by the end of 2017.

This is getting to be a bit rediculous, maybe this stupid rebranding shouldn't have been approved in the first place!

It's just a business decision.  Happens all the time.  Hess, apparently, wants to concentrate on research.  Still, if I was the CEO of Speedway, I might choose to maintain the name "Hess", as it seems to have some name recognition in the East and South.  Unless maybe Speedway is well-known elsewhere?  Anyone heard of it?

We have them both all over the place around here.

Many, many years ago when I was a kid and my dad had just retired from the Air Force, he was looking for a new job, so in the interim, he took a job working at a Hess station nearby.

Did that for a couple of months until he got hired at Piper Aircraft.

I wonder if their float will be in the MACYS Thanksgiving Parade?

And if it's in the parade will it get booed at by the spectators (In 1987 the Detroit Lions float was booed the entire length of the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade and in 1991 Zsa Zsa Gabor (Grand Marshall of that year's Rose parade) was also booed the length of that parade). Angry
