Absolutely. Thumbs Up

They could not have cast that show any better.

What I really love about it is the guest actors who played the criminals and victims that came through the squad room.

Some of the best comedic acting performances I've ever seen were by the guests on Barney Miller.

Many of them were recognizable from the "Golden Age" of movies and TV. And some of them made appearances in Mel Brooks films as well.

Another aspect of the show that I love is how each episode resembles live theater.

It would make a great stage play.

I was born the same year Barney Miller premiered, so I kinda grew up on the reruns. Always loved the theme song.

Yeah, me too.

Not to nitpick, but it was more theme "music" than it was a "song", as there were no words.

I think to qualify as a song, it must have words.

All that having been said.... I knew what you were talking about. Wink

Songs have to have the human voice being used, so the theme for Barney Miller is just "Music".

The word "song" being a variation on he word "sing".

HOWEVER.....

Many instrumental pieces are generically referred to as "songs".

Take the Allman Brothers, for example.

A band known for long instrumental pieces. like....

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

Little Martha

Jessica

Les Brers In A Minor

Mountain Jam

High Falls

All of which get referred to in conversation as "songs".

So I suppose there are exceptions to the "rule".

But I would refer to the Barney Miller opening and closing music as a "theme" rather than a "song".
