I'd like to cut my cable and spend all my TV time on just my DVDs, but it is really frustrating when the PTB won't put my favorites out on DVD due to their endless strings of "cost prohibitive" excuses!

These are some of my favorites still needing a DVD release:

That's Incredible! (Turned 30 years old this year!)
"Old School" Sesame Street (MORE!)
"Old School" Electric Company (MORE!)
Perfect Strangers (MORE!)
Fame (MORE!)

(I'll think of more later...)
"Cottage cheese is not a 'feminine product'!"

There are a lot of Shows out there that are not being released because of either:

1. Corperate Greed

A good Example is the 1966 Batman. All indications say if it were to be released, it would be a Best-Seller. But there's a Problem. In the 1960s, 20th Century Fox produced the series. After it was cancelled, Warner Brothers purchased the "Batman" Name, and has produced a number of Movies. They demand a share of the Royalties if the series were to be released. Neither Studio can agree on an amount. The upshot? No Sale.

Many Series are not released because they contain Music from a Popular Singer. The Studio that owns that Song wants a Cut of the Royalties, so that series goes unreleased. Examples include Cold Case & The Wonder Years.

2. "Political Correctness"

Some Shows, Popular in their time, are no longer seen because something in that show and/or one of the Cast Members "Offended" a Minority Group. The Studio fears if they release the Series, they'll have repercussions. Examples include:

Song of the South. Because it took place in the South Before the Civil War, and it showed the Farm Workers gladly going about their business, the African-American Community objects to this movie.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father. The Nanny, "Mrs Livingston" is of Japanese Descent. Some Asians claim depicting her as a Servant "Steriotypes" them, so they object to this series.

The FBI. One of its Stars, Efram Zimbalist Jr. Announced he is a "Born again" Christian Fundamentilist. He made a statement regarding the lifestyle of an "Alternate Lifestyle" Group, claiming they are living in Sin. Needless to say that group OBJECTS to any of his shows, so they go unreleased.

Looks like fun, but they prolly don't have what I reaaally want to see on DVD. Great gift ideas, though!

Try the Discussion Boards at http://amazon.com. Look for the "TV Shows you wish were on DVD" Every now and then, someone will mention some sites where you can get certain "Hard -to-Find" DVD Sets, if you know what I mean.Wink

Hey Reg, sometimes to get around the music licensing issue, they will remove the songs in question and replace it with generic music or something that is commercially available
