Grand Funk's I Want Freedom starts out with nearly 2 minutes of pointless (and difficult to hear) studio chatter, along with a false start.  It's really annoying when I have the CD on and I have to forward it to the actual song.  This stuff wasn't on the 45 that I bought as a teen, so why did they put it on the album?

I kind of like the false start on Closer To Home. Mark plays the second note wrong on his guitar.

Yeah, that one's OK.  It's only 15 seconds.  The one on I Want Freedom is nearly 2 minutes.  If I was recording it onto a cassette, I could keep that out.  But with a CD, you're kind of stuck with it.  That'd practically be like 2 blank minutes between songs, which would just make me want to fast-forward it.

^Actually, that brings up another point.

Hidden tracks. Those extra songs stuck onto another track. Those are irritating simply because you get stuck with this silent gap. Sometimes it's okay (I can think of two French albums where the gap between real song and hidden song is just 10-15 seconds), but other times it's ridiculous. I have some where the gap is over a minute. I keep meaning to edit the file and turn it into two separate tracks.

2 minutes of nothing.  I wonder what made them think it was a good idea.  I'll bet even if there was a documentary on the making of the Survival album, they'd leave that part out.

Well remember, it was the early 70's. Rock-n-Roll was still in it's adolescence & people were trying to be different & do things that were still kinda novel at the time.

Plus, it gave the listener a little bit of an "inside glimpse" of the studio recording process.

Not that big of a deal, really.

So enough with the kvetching about it already!!!

Oy vey!!!

Black Sabbath stuck this at the end of The Writ on their Sabotage album.  It was at a much lower volume than the song preceeding it:

There's also a thing some artists have done with vinyl in which there's a whole other set of songs on an album.  To hear it, you'd have to nudge the needle over one groove.

Also, Jack White of the White Stripes has done some odd things with vinyl.  One album has songs hidden under the label.  I think one has to be played at 45, and the other at 78.  He also does the hidden groove thing on one song.  Depending on where you drop the needle, you get an acoustic or an electric start to the song.  The grooves then come together to complete the song normally.

That sounds downright annoying.

Makes that Grand Funk thing seem like a day at the beach.

Somebody should poke those f**kers in the nose.

Warren Zevon did that on 'Life'll Kill Ya' with 'My sh*t's f**ked Up'. Song isn't listed at all, but is actually the 9th track and almost 3 minutes long. I suspect he did that because of the song's title, which was immediately after 'Back In The High Life Again'

^No. You can find out if you really want - I've provided enough information...not sure if it was Ed Sanders, or Tuli Kupferberg, who goes basically 'postal' at the end.
The BEST 'end of song rant' on the album is on a song about Coca Cola...again, feel free to hear it out.
I'm just not feeling that dirty, but...if you're not doing anything right now, heck - you can hear the whole album on spewtube (and no - wasn't me that put it there)...

Yes, I am just soooooooooooo upset that you are annoyed by something that was included on a song I never listened to on an album that was released when I was in junior high school.

You've ruined my entire holiday weekend.

I think I may have even lost my appetite.

Oh the agony.

Winksure that isn't because of yesterday's carefully-crafted Y'allmart burgers, ol'Mule?

Just burn the song to an mp3 then get an free online mp3 editor and chop off the offending intro.

I did that with the song Beach Baby.  It had this really annoying radio intro complete with out of tune radio station static. I chopped it off and went on my way.

Yeah, I've played around with those editing programs (my bro's).  Pretty cool.

I never heard Beach Baby with such an intro.  The Ramones' Rock and Roll Radio starts out that way, but it's integral to the song.
