HOLY COW! That's a bargain. Our regular (NY) is $4.59. It should hit $5.00 by the weekend. Dead

Now the state is considering ALLOWING them to NOT STOP.  That's not only ridiculous; it's horribly unsafe.  I understand you lose momentum when you have to come to a stop, but my God, it's hard to see bicyclists when they get into your blindspots as it is.

I've heard the suggestion that bike riders get license plates for the bikes, and insurance as well.  I don't think the insurance is necessary--after all, bike riding is supposed to be fun, and kids should be able to ride bikes.  But I do think they need license plates.

Sounds like Portland. I have heard of many parallels  of our fair cities, so let's add this one. Obnoxious bike riders.
The battle here is legendary at times.
We have these "ghost bikes" that people put up. Basically white painted bikes lashed to poles and trees with small shrines commemorating a bike rider's death in that spot.

I have stood on both sides of the argument at times, but in all I tend to follow the law of the jungle when it comes to transportation.
If it is bigger than you, don't get in its way.

Regardless of who is right, or who is being an ass at the time, that doesn't matter when you are being crushed.

The idea that they can breeze through stops is insane.
Given we have moments such as that and the cops do admit grey areas but in all they are expected to follow the rules of the road.

The registration issue has come up here as well.
It is often met with resistance from the bike community.
We will see, my close calls are getting closer every day now that more are riding bikes.
I am considering biking as well, though I will probably be crushed due to karma.

How much more can the US Take?  I see this happening in the next few months if something isn't done soon.

As the Economy Tanks and more people are laid off, the amount of Revenue the Government takes in declines, while the amount of those filing for Uneemployment and other Entitlement funds grows. Consequently the Budget Defecit spirals out of control. Then the President announces we are under Martial law, and there is no money left to pay out Entitlements. Heaven help us all when this happens!

Perhaps a collapse and the world of "The Postman" will come to pass? (the book not the costner POS)

I and a friend have talked about claiming the Grand Coulee Dam when the world goes to sh*t. We will become warlords and rule with a benevolent but fierce hand.

(all of this decided back in 99 when we were fishing in eastern washington and laughing about the Y2K scare. Beer and the hot sun is very inspiring!)

The battle is raging here in the Denver area as well. As someone who normally bikes, but sometimes has to drive (mainly when I'm taking my 95-yo grandmother somewhere) I too stand on both sides of the issue. It's a very bizarre issue considering that each county has different rules regarding bikes. At some places, bikes don't have to stop (which I think is stupid) but in others, if a bicyclist gets hit while in an intersection, it could be considered their fault for not dismounting (which is also stupid). My idea is that bicyclists should be subjected to the same rules as cars; no more, no less.

A gallon of milk in NY just rose to $4.54.

They're going to charge us to BREATHE soon... it's only a matter of time.

yeah that is weird about the inconsistent laws.
Here they are trying to fix a rule. If a car kills a bike rider they are not charged with any vehicular death charges like one would if the rider was in a car.

A pack of smokes

Not here in NY - they tax the bejesus out of them - to try to "help" you to quit. The gas station down the road form me charges $7.30 a PACK. In the city, a pack is close to $10.

Here in Indy, a pack of cigarettes is only $3.15.  Since one of Indiana's neighboring states is Kentucky, a prime tobacco growing state, that explains everything.

When I smoked, I could buy three packs for $1.75.  Of course that was 23 years ago.
