Too bad.

He cared more about ending the suffering of the people he assisted than the money grubbing asshole medical establishment did.

He performed a humane service that nobody else had the spine or the conviction to perform.

JMHO, but I don't see anything to be gleeful about.

RIP Dr. Kevorkian. I know you went out with a clear conscience.

I agree.  I don't see him as a murderer in the true sense of the word.  He didn't do it for any personal revenge or gain.

My understanding is that Kurt Cobain committed suicide because he had intolerable chronic stomach pain.

Just as one example of why one might want assisted suicide.

I just read that he smoked a lot of marijuana.  Maybe he took it to relieve the pain, but it's quite possible that marijuana actually caused the pain.

My 36 y/o neighbor has had intense stomach pain for the past 5 or 6 years.  Major bouts of vomiting.  Ambulance trips to the hospital at least once a week.  No doctor's been able to figure it out.  He's gone through 3 medical procedures (including gall bladder removal), addiction to painkillers, an 80lb weight loss, special diets, etc.  He and his parents asked the doctors if his use of pot could be part of the problem.  I also thought that maybe pot was the problem  The docs all insisted that that was not possible, and that marijuana is good for the pain...and absolutely not the problem.

Finally, a lowly nurse said yes, it is the problem; her neice had the exact same symptoms and she smoked a lot of pot, too.  She showed the doctor the scientific literature, and he said "Ohhh.  OK.  Maybe it is."

Lo and behold, it was.  He stopped smoking the pot on April 3rd, and hasn't had a vomiting bout since.

Yeah, that was off-topic, but perhaps Cobain had the same problem as my neighb, and could've avoided the whole gun-to-the-head thing.

Bravo!  He was a great guy who helped people out of their misery.  We can help our pets die when they NEED to, and Dr. K. did the same thing for humans.  Murderers kill people who want to LIVE.

I am sure he would have assisted in the hastening of his own demise from cancer...but he was too busy dying. Wink
