Nuke I posted the following on the Quiznos thread, because we got into a discussion about these outrageous, RIDICULOUS gas prices and thought this post would be a good one to start off a freah thread on the subject!!

I keep hearing these assholes on TV saying, "Even if we drilled in ANWAR and other places in the US, we wouldn't see that gasoline for 10 years!!" First of all, I don't believe that bullsh*t!! This is America. We can make I-pods, and tiny computers like the Blackberry, but we can't turn oil into gas in a shorter span of time than 10 years!!?? BULL-sh*t!!! Oh and not to rag on the Clintons, BUT didn't Bill veto drilling in the US about 10 years ago??? If that had passed, then we'd have the  sh*t we needed right now and wouldn't have to go hat-in-hand to countries who hate us!!

And before everyone jumps on me for mentioning Bill, all I am saying is these polititians lie, and do what ever is profitable to themselves at the time, and they don't give a rat's ass about us until it's election time. If the airlines, trucking companies and businesses came out together and said, "Because of high fuel costs, we are taking a stand together and we are going to force Washington to lessen restrictions, and pass legislation allowing us to explore for new sources of oil and natural resources. We are shutting everything down for one week, effective immediately!" I bet it wouldn't be 24 hours till the country was heading in the right direction. I am sick of these dog and pony shows on the floor of the United State Senate. All these f**king windbags do is yak yak yak to make themselves look good, and nothing comes out of it. We know what they've doneBASTARDS!!!

Sorry for posting this here.....! Is there a gas prices thread?? If not we should do one. These prices are just going to keep going up folks. It's like a runaway train, and Casey Jones is dead!!!

Addendum to original post!!
I wanted to know just who was responsible for the high costs of oil and gas, but I am absolutely unable to nail it down!! OH I hear everyone involved blaming each other, but NO one wants to take responsibility!! If you read one report, it blames the Oil Companies. The next blames oil rich nations, and OPEC. Then they tell ya it's all the governments fault because of the lobbying, and environmentalists. BUT the one that PISSES me off the most is when they tell me that it's because we consume too much!! Or they say it's becasue China and India are using the hell out of it right now and supply is low. I say f**k CHINA!!! f**k INDIA!!! We can develop our own energy and we don't need to be at the beckon call of these dumbasses. Could it be, our country doesn't take a stand against these other nations, because we are borrowing billions from other nations, and they have us right by our nuts??!! More later, my eyes are burning!!

Please forgive the ranting, bad grammer and spelling. It's about 4:30 AM and I'm wiped out. Going to bed.
AW DAMN!!!! Wild Shot the friggin TV again!!!

There is ONE group of people who I have NO SYMPATHY for, and they are the one who bought those HUGE Pickups and SUVs not because they needed them, but because they wanted to be seen in them. ("Look at me! I Made It! I Drive a Fancy Vehicle loaded to the hilt with Luxeries!") Many of these people no0w Whine because they now realise they only get 12-15 miles per gallon, and they are spending more on Gas than they are on their Payments! They also zo0om down the Freeway at 80+Miles per hour, and if you are driving ahead of them at 60 mph (Which saves 10% verses 70 mph - That's 40 Cents per gallon Folks!) They'll Tailgate you then pass you and give "The One-Fingered Salute". Then they whine at the Gas Pump. BOO HOO to you too! Own two vehicles, a 1997 4-cylinder Ford Ranger (35 Miles Per Gallon - I use it only when I travel out of town or the Weather is Inclement) and my favorate vehicle of all, A YAMAHA MOTER SCOOTER ( Big%20smile70 Miles Per Gallon!Big%20smile) With gas as expensive as it is I still spend less than $5.00 A WEEK!

Right!
Because they *could*.

Look around you, Reg...bet you see the same thing we're seeing...dealerships are very quickly becoming graveyards for those big ol' 'vanity traps'.

A perspective: Those that can't, or wont, offload them either have more money than brains, or are getting ready to live in their mini-mobile homes. Puts a whole new spin on the classification of being a 'Transient Laborer', don't you think? Got a Lincoln (Navigator) Aggravator? Maybe a Cadillac (Escalade) Nest&Cafe? Enjoy!

Who here flips their car into neutral when they go down hills?

This was something I used to always do when I drove stick, and now I am doing it again. Makes a noticable difference in gas mileage. I am surprised you don't hear more about it, supposedly it is illegal in some places.

Ugh, I can't stand the gas prices. When my husband and I moved to Florida last summer (we drove, of course) gas was in the high 2s, now its almost a whole 2 DOLLARS MORE in a year?  To move back home like I would like to do would now cost me roughly 50 dollars more each way.

Anyone remember the electric car of the 90s? Most were only available in California and only for lease. At the end of the lease they took the cars back, and ended up destroying them, DESTROYING THEM! The whole thing was detailed in the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?" Very interesting stuff. According to that movie anyone who backs ethanol or hydrogen is backing the wrong resource. The only reason corn ethanol is getting anywhere is because of America's insane corn lobby.  The statistics said that even if 100% of America's corn supply went to making ethanol we would be no where near making the demand. Oh and the whole 34% reduction in gas mileage while running on ethanol, lets not forget that, you'll need MORE ethanol to drive the same amount then if you just filled up with gas in the first place!

I drive a small car from 1993 that get 30s for gas mileage, and I don't drive it a whole lot any more to save money. I still end up spending 30 dollars a month in gas for it.

Mark my words! Unable to offload these "Yuppie Tanks" at a Dealer You will hear about a lot of these vehicles being "Stolen". Then you will find them in the Boonies of Another State, Stripped and/or Burned Out! Naturally we will end up paying for them, with our Insurance!Ouch

I blame us, and by "us," I'm talkin 'bout my generation.  We had a wake-up call in the mid-1970s and, amazingly, we never did quit sucking the oil teat.  Instead, we slid with Gordon Gecko-esque ease into the greed of the 1980s and became comatose in the complacency of the 1990s.

Drilling in the ANWR is not the answer, for that is also a finite fossil-fuel resource. Why destroy the last wilderness for a few more years of oil?  When that oil is gone, we are back where we began.

I say this:  f**k big oil; bring on the hydrogen fuel cell.
Love endures all.

With the gas prices being what they are, everything else is suffering.

A cascde-effect;food prices are through the ceiling. Something as simple as a $2 block of cheese is now $3.

So, having ditched the cars, we now are suffering a bit a less than many - we don't pay for gas, we don't pay for insurance - that part of the budgest is being swallowed by increases in standard food and clothing prices.

...and yes - one of our daughters decided to pick up on of those expensive SUV's *last week* - on a used car lot - for next-to-nothing (literally pennies on the dollar). Took her 3 days to run out of gas on the side of the road.

The ANWR thing (is it ANWAR or ANWR?) anyway, and I'm not arguing pro or against cause I don't know!! Can't find out the truth either. One group says it's an ample supply and that drilling there would be minimally invasive. Others say it would rape the land for hardly any oil at all. So it depends on who you listen too, and then they color the facts to suit their needs. I'm just sick of the lies!!! It's MORE than evident that SOMEONE  is lying. Seems that every damned day prices rise anywhere from 1 to 3 cents. EVERY DAMNED DAY!!! I watch the news regularly and it's a NORMAL thing these days. WHY!!!

I have said it before and I'll say it again, I think these oil companies KNOW their days are numbered so they're running up the prices so that they can get ALL they can, WHILE they can!! Some say, and think we are dumb enough to believe it, that, "The oil companies aren't making that much money these days if you count in the costs of research and exploration!!"

LOL RIGHT!!!! SURE!!! I'M a f**kING DUMBASS!!! ....................HELLO ASSBAGS!!! I KNOW WHAT PROFIT IS!!!!!! THAT'S WHAT YOU HAVE AFTER YOU PAY ALL YOUR RESEARCHERS, DEVELOPERS, AND EMPLOYEES 140 MILLION DOLLAR BONUSES!!!!   BONUSES....THAT'S ON TOP OF WHAT THEY REGULARLY PULL DOWN!!!! SO FUUUUU UUUUU UUUUCK YOU TO ALL YOU BASTARDS TELLING ME THEY AREN'T MAKING A GOD DAMNED KILLING WHILE THEY HAVE US LITTERALY OVER A BARREL (OF OIL) GIVING US THE HIGH HARD ONE!!!! NO ONE EVEN BOTHERS TO USE PREGREASE!!! AND YOU KNOW THE f**kERS TRYING TO GET US TO HAVE SYMPATHY FOR THESE PIRATES ARE THE ONES WHO OWN STOCK IN BIG OIL!!!

Yes, I was screaming cause I'm PISSED!!! I feel like they try to smooth over their actions by talking sweet to us. Or talking down like we're idiots. Here's what they really mean:

Thank you for listening to our ridiculous shpeel. We would tell you the truth but why explain ourselves to you when clearly we don't have to! Let's face it, we are big oil! What are you going to do?? We have enough money, that if you were to win a lawsuit, we could pay for it out of our petty cash fund. You are insignificant and really have no meaning to us at all. Stop your whining and crying about oil prices. You selfish, self serving bastards will buy our gasoline if it's $40.00 a gallon because you are all selfish and will not stop driving a f**king mile. Who are you trying to kid? You've all done this to yourselves because of all your green this, and green that and demands for other fuels. We, big oil ARE going to GET OURS, while giving you everything you deserve. So now, please kindly remove your trousers and dresses. Remove your underwear and assume the position. Remove your wallets, you do not need them any longer because, huummpth, (giggle) we have all your f**king money. We will be inserting various toys into you with extreme force because we can. WE ARE BIG OIL!!! If you want lubrication, it's gonna cost you.....BIG TIME!!! f**k you and go to HELL because we don't give a Royal Canadian Goose f**k about you or your families!!

I looked at an editorial cartoon recently in the Indianapolis Star which showed Batman broke because he had to buy gas for his Batmobile.  Very sad indeed.

No, not all the time mostly when I'm really frustrated or mad.

I exaggerate it a bit on the forum. To express my frustration.

anyway I came across this doing a little research it seems what goes into pricing is much more complicated than "supply and demand." warning long, long, long reading.

Lots of stuff is being done about it right now.  Just yesterday, there was an item on the news about some guy in the US who is growing a particular sort of plant whose seeds can be converted into fuel.  There were busloads of scientists and investors from all around the world coming to check it out.

But just because gas is expensive now and we're suddenly concerned, doesn't mean that all we have to do is demand that it be available to us tomorrow and it will happen.  These things take time.  In the meantime, we could look into oil possibilities right here in the US.  But that would require environmentalists to actually give in a little bit to show they care about their fellow countrymen.

As far as ANWAR, I understand its status as a refuge for caribou is unsubstantiated at best.  But its value as a source for oil is not.  According to Wikipedia, the amount of oil that's there can replace the Persian oil we use for 6 to 15 years.  Now that the alternative fuel wheels seem to finally be rolling, the ANWAR oil could be just the thing we need to get us through this waiting period.

Bio fuel production is right around the corner. In Florida they are developing ways to turn a wild growing weed called "switchgrass" into an extremely cost effective fuel as well as the millions of tons of sugar cane waste that gets produced each year.

Toyota has just released it's new hydrogen fuel cell car. If we could get on the ball & start mass producing hydrogen & get gas stations to install pumps over the next two or three years, we could be well on the way in that regard also.

I see a time period where there will be different types of cars on the market. Bio fuel cars & hydrogen fuel cell cars. Maybe they will both co-exist or maybe one will win out over the other in the long run. But I can imagine fuel stations across the country selling both types of fuel.

We could have something like that in place within ten years if the oil company lobbyists didn't have so much influence over our laws.

Maybe once Bush & Cheney are gone...... Clap

As I understand it, it's exactly the opposite of that.

Not to mention that it would take years for the place to be ready to start producing oil.

And besides.... I thought the oil industry's line was that our refineries are at peak capacity because environmental regulations have made it impossible to build new ones. So if that's true, what good would drilling in Alaska do for us? The gasoline supply would still be the same. And whatever the world oil market price per barrel is, is what they are going to charge US refineries. The oil companies certainly aren't going to give us a break just because they can now pump oil from within the US rather than import it.

Sounds to me like the oil companies see a way to make even bigger profits while keeping us dependent on their poison for another generation.

It's time to start moving away from oil, not continuing on with what got us into this situation to begin with.
