These fkn commercials drive me crazy.  They go on and on about how fracking is safe and how wonderful it is.  Every one of them has some happy, at peace person walking through a mountain paradise while talking about the benefits of fracking.  What they don't show is the actual fracking towers or the oil and gas wells.  What they don't mention is how they don't frack in the mountains of Colorado.  The wells and towers are all on the front range and plains.  They know that if the actually showed what these looked like, then people would know what they're really about.  They show the mountains because they're peaceful and want everyone to associate this disruptive, loud practice with pretty, snow capped peaks.

Fk you eneryfromshale.org.

And this one.  The reason that you're allowing fracking on your land is for the mineral rights.  Good for you.  I hope that they have a cure for whatever you get from drinking the water.  I hope that your animals don't freak out from the noise when you have to re-frack those wells.  Dipsh1t.

I've seen stories that link fracking to the recent earthquakes in Texas and Oklahoma.

I saw a pretty good show about climate change the other day.
It starred Bill Nye and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
One of the topics was the Tar Sands mine in Canada.
An environmental disaster area.

The gall of these companies to even SUGGEST their process is safe. There's a special place in hell for these adholes. It'll be a room where they are forced to hold a match near their polluted water and explode over and over and over again for eternity.
Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

Thank You, aka - welcome to my world.
Fracking. The topic comes up, companies try and convince the publc that no harm will come. Public outcry stops the progression of fracking for a bit, then we dance the hokey-pokey all over again.
One of our somewhat recently-lost members, Christine, cranked up a bunch on the back in 2011 -  Direct Link To This Post <<<-C's thread. If one doesn't want to read all of that, jut go read on fracking and impact on earth's tectonic plates and the impact and frequency of earthquakes.
Pretty scary sh*t, eh?Wink  And this thread is only about 'fracking'...but you pointed out the greatly-ignored, potentiallty catastrophic oil sands effort well up above and to the left of The Den. Canada is far from innocent, when it comes to creating useless land and massive killing fields.
Pawism #124: 'Assholes value financial profit and security over upgrading and securing the quality of life for their fellow man and thus they doom themselves from ever experiencing the pinnacle of Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, so we should just take them into a dark alley and shoot the bastards'.
Look around - look close to home - you may have some 'eye-openers going on around you, too!
Check out the EPA Superfund Sites!
Some time back, I started a little thread about 'Hell on Earth' and, well, even though time passes, many of those areas still have 'gifts that keep on giving'. (old thread===>>>Direct Link To This Post). Time may have passed and some areas have actually been declared 'safe' and have since been developed, but one must ask the motive for declaring  such hells as 'safe'. Some people get rich, but everyone gets 'touched',  my family is no exception. Now, just for sh*ts & giggles, read that old thread - look about 4 or 5 posts in and I believe I discuss a new (at that time) community - 'Black Creek Village'. The idea was to leave all understanding not only are there are plenty of humans that swim at the very, very edge of the gene pool, there are many ready to take advantage of them - and thus, given the chance - you too.
'Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it'
A number of famous and influential people have been quoted as having said this first...Santayana, Churchill, PaWolf, Shepard, Ventura,...ohhh...the list goes on, but who said it first isn't the point - educating others is.
Another famous 'Pawism', #73, 'You can lead a horse to water, but it is hard as hell to hold its head under until it drowns', also applies. We can't change the companies and their stances when it comes to the almighty dollar - in their eyes, they're doing nothing wrong and you're never going to change them....so we go back to #124 above and just shoot them because they'll never learn.

"They go on and on about how fracking is safe and how wonderful it is."

how safe and wonderful what is?

"Every one of them has some happy, at peace person walking through a mountain paradise while talking about the benefits of fracking."

benefits of what?

"What they don't mention is how they don't frack in the mountains of Colorado."

how they don't what in the mountains of colorado?

-_- dammit, battlestar galactica! why the heck did you ever have to start that stupid trend? could you actually say what you're talking about INSTEAD of substituting words with the fictional, made up, word "fracking"?

sorry but seeing or hearing people talk like that by substituting what they mean to say with fake words actually pisses me off more than these idiotic commercials. i mean, i'm not psychic, how am i supposed to know what you're saying when...you're not saying it?

But I am saying it.  BSG aside, there actually is such a practice as fracking, that is used to get deep pockets of oil and natural gas to the surface.  It's a highly contested practice that the oil and gas industry claims is clean and completely safe, and just about everyone else thinks is complete BS.  These commercials are propaganda produced by the oil industry.

But it's full steam ahead for the oil and gas industry and these fracking sites and wells are going up all over the place.  Is it harmful?  We're going to find out, and my guess is that it will be sooner, rather than later.

I live in the Colorado Front Range.  The town that I live in had a ballot initiative a few years back, to block fracking in the city limits.  It was overwhelmingly approved.  The Colorado Oil and Gas Association dicks filed suit against the town and won.  Some asshole judge who's probably in their pocket struck the ban down.  It's nice that an item can be put on the ballot, voted on and approved, only to have it struck down.  So much for voting meaning something.  Now we're in sort of a limbo as to what's going to happen.  The whole mess is going to the state supreme court for a decision sometime in 2016.  We're not under any illusions that the town will win.  The oil and gassholes have more than enough money in their pockets to beat any challenge to their supremacy.  We all know this.  Money always wins in the end.

I can't wait for the next general election when the judge is up for reelection.  If I vote on nothing else at all, I'm still going to cast a vote against her retaining her position.

That's why there are so many of these damned commercials on the air in Colorado.  It's a hot zone in the battle for and against fracking.  These commercials are pure propaganda, and have absolutely nothing to do with what fracking actually is.  They never show a fracking site.  They talk down to people like they're complete morons.  They never let you listen in on how loud it is and how disruptive it can be to the neighborhoods surrounding the sites.  Yes. They do it right in the middle of established neighborhoods.  And you can imagine what it does to the property values of those who are unfortunate enough to live near one of the sites.  Most of these commercials take place in the mountains.  I crack my wife up with my swearing at the TV whenever one of these damned things comes on the air.

I wonder if BSG purposefully used the word, knowing full well what it was about.  Probably.

ShockedConfusedReally? C'mon Sarge, say it ain't so before I do....December 2 is the EPA's 'birthday' and you're not playing niceCry. No cake for Sarge!
(Not too far from The Den - homes long gone, but one can still drive through the community and 'feel the horror', people still get sick, the earth is covered with lit-up monitoring boxes).
Love Canal
The above are not 'rehabbed homes'; in many cases, new buildings were erected. 'Rehabbed Homes' are actually a pretty healthy distance away from  but, as I still say - the EPA may have 'cleared' the land and let assholes sell it to idiots...now the EPA should really look into the idjits who convinced them the area is now safe enough to live in (these days, just driving through the area brings tears to the eyes and makes this ol'Wolf want to stop & puke, but I hold the puke out of respect for so many that died because they lived here).
~~~
In my previous post, there is a link to an old thread of interest.
I think maybe you could be a tad confused (and readily understood) considering all the broohaha going on about biofuels - but, no - the EPA is not 'in bed' with big oil/big corn....
Hmmm.  I've seen tons of wells out here in the front range, but never one in any of the places I've been in the mountains.  I guess I need to get out more often.
"Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well."
thank you google. still think that show was stupid BUT if this is what you were referring to then at least i know that much now.
If you read more on the Google Page, you would have seen many other articles about 'to frack or not to frack?' That is the frackking question.
We are possibly talking about different parts of Colorado. The shale oilfield I saw in the mid 1960s is near Parachute Creek (elevation: 5,000'+) about 15 miles SW of Rifle. My parents were married in Rifle in 1927 and I have visited this area several times. They always referred to the area as West slope of the Rockies. I have not heard the term front range.
Sorry PaW. I usually do more research but having read more than one legitimate article concerning FDA officials being financially encouraged to expedite approval of extremely profitable pills, I instinctively applied that to another government agency. I have viewed a well done documentary concerning Love Canal and one about Times Beach, MO where left over agent orange toxins (dioxin) sold as "waste oil" was used for dust control in the town with results similar to Love Canal. I also learned that the oil shale operation in Colorado that I visited when I was 12 y/o is not frackin fracking.EmbarrassedEmbarrassedEmbarrassed
I thought the "hoof" and "climbing up usmaak's ass" comments would have cleared that up.
No harm. No foul. I did screw up. Number one rule of Army Aviation: "You screw up. You fess up"! Very expensive equipment could be damaged and lives could be lost. I still follow that rule in civilian/retired life.
to be fair, before this mining related term, the only time i had heard the word fracking was in BSG where the word is used as a substitute for the word F***. and with how much people simply love to substitute words like that on tv, it's kinda easy to wind up misinformed when the word in question is in fact an actual term used somewhere irl.
yay for censor bypassing and the confusion it can lead to. >.> speaking of, it's actually kinda surprising how much profanity and whatnot you might find in shows/cartoons/etc. aimed at young children sometimes due to things like this. one prime example of this would be that old cartoon The Smurfs. though i suppose it is better than hearing annoying bleeping all the time.
huh, so why do we try protecting children from the horrors of profanity again? seems to me that they get exposed to it all the time indirectly so it's just a matter of delaying the inevitable.
