The New York Times reports that "...Of the 20 highest-rated telecasts of any kind so far this television season, 18 have been N.F.L. games on CBS, NBC or Fox. In terms of the best of 2010, nothing else comes close. Of the 50 highest-rated programs during the calendar year, 27 have been N.F.L. games, including 8 of the top 10."

Obviously, more people are tuning in the prime-time NFL games, but I think much of the reason is that there is nothing else worth watching!!!Angry

Televised Sports are about the only thing that's keeping the Networks going. They continue to lose viewers, who like me have grown sick and tired of watching commercial-infested "Unscripted" TV. Of course, the Sporting events are crammed full of Commercials too. A High-School Game will last but two hours, while the same game played among College or Pro Players can run well over THREE HOURS! Dead I stopped watching Sporting events this year, as you cannot go 15 minutes without seeing some quasi-pornographic Commercial for an "Adult Product" played at 3:00 PM in front of the Kiddies!Angry

Oh yeah, then why the f**k can't The 'Browns' win any games? I swear, there's a hex on The 'Browns' and they'll only be playing on CBS at 1 p.m. for a VERY Long Time!Angry

Mr.C, they play every Redskins game here even if they are winless. They always have and always will. They consider Virginia the Redskin home state for whatever reason.
It could be "the game of the weekend" on with two teams competing for the playoffs, but FOX would show the Redskin/Browns game anyway.

It's because the Redskins are close to Virginia.  Nebraskans get mainly the Chiefs and Vikings.

May be. And football hasn't even gotten to the playoffs yet. When did soccer, basketball, baseball or hockey get those kind of ratings?

NFL doesn't get much t.v. time, here...hockey gets a lot more - and is actually fun to watch.
Only Baseball is better.
Speaking of 'Adult Products':
ShockedConfusedYou should see 'The Oxygen Channel', somewhere around 3 A.M.
I've stumbled across their 'Women's Shopping Hour' and actually stopped and gawked - on regular cable t.v., they advertise women's devices and toys that you would never believe exist and THEN the women hosts explain when, how, and where to play with their 'toys', along with their 'personal experiences'.

Either them, or a cored group of NFL Team 'Centers'.

Has anyone taken a look at the TV Schedule for New Year's Day? With the sole exception of the Outback Bowl (And that may be Locally (Florida) ONLY because Florida is Playing in it), NONE of the Broadcast Networks (Thats ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC for those of you in Rio Linda!), have ANY of the Bowl Games on! ALL of them have moved to ESPN or its Sister Channels!  AngryAnd what will be showing on the Broadcast Channels after the Parade is over? Dead"PAID PROGRAMMING"Dead!

There are only 3 bowls on the networks:  CBS has the Sun Bowl, the Outback Bowl on ABC, and the Cotton Bowl (held less than a week later than usual and at the new Cowboys Stadium) on Fox.  The rest are on ESPN or ESPN2, including the BCS Championship.  The Tournament of Roses Parade is still broadcast on NBC and ABC, and what comes on after is the NHL Winter Classic (hockey played outside) on NBC and the Outback Bowl on ABC.  CBS station is broadcasting its usual fare of paid programming when there is no sports on.  There isn't even any college basketball on CBS, just an episode of the new Hawaii 5-0 at 3pm Central.

Yeah, I definitely know that feeling too.
I mean, what do we really have that's worth watching on TV anymore?
Generic game shows? No thanks.
Glee? Oh God, no.
Human Target? Yay, a generic copy of '24'
Hawaii Five-O? Oh God, no.
Dancing With The Stars? No thanks, I'd rather keep being heterosexual.
American Idol? The only reason to watch it before was Simon, and now he's gone. No thanks.
Family Guy? The same cut-away comedy for so many years. This show quit being funny.
American Dad? No thanks.
Cleveland Show? Oh God, no.
The Simpsons? OLD.

Really, the only thing I watch on TV is football. I watch the news sometimes, but it's just too damn depressing anyway.

And the Vikings-Eagles game has been postponed to Tuesday night because of the weather.  NBC will still broadcast it to the whole country.   Its only competition right now is reruns.

ConfusedThis "Shop Erotic" thingy you speak of...yea - that's it! Thanks - I didn't know that!
Do YOU watch it during NFL game breaks, or have you just been following it on other channels for some time?

I read recently that part of the reason for the higher NFL ratings this year is because less people are actually going to the games.  People can't afford to see them in person, so watch them on tv instead.

For the most part I agree about the garbage on TV, but there are shows I still watch.  I've found that the USA original stuff is pretty good - Psych, White Collar, Burn Notice are good.  The new one - Covert Affairs - was ok in the first season.

As far as sitcoms, I have to say that I do like How I Met Your Mother - funny show..

I agree re. White Collar, Burn Notice, and Covert Affairs. Psych not so much for me. I also really enjoy Royal Pains, and the promos for the new show Fairly Legal look good to (not just because of the star, either...)
