This pisses me off so much. Every commercial for "the pill" or a form of viagra always has this same disclaimer. What kind of dumbass thinks there's a magic pill that just so happens to protect against disease while doing its primary duty? Seems to me getting rid of the disclaimer would be a fun way to test Mr. Darwin's theories.

They should start marketing sleeping pills as "preventing STDs".  I mean, they kinda do, don't they?

Don't think so, Thor. Haven't you ever had the pleasure of being awakened while being 'taken advantage of'?

The newest one is the worst - the one with the women clucking like a bunch of hens around the TV. When the commercial comes on, one of them starts singing along with it.

LOL...something tells me that if any idiot thought a 'Nuvaring' was a 'sex pill' and went and downed one, we'd see the whole story on the next episode of 'Law & Order'! (it'd have to star Benjamin Bratt and the (late, great) Jerry Orbach)...

'Legal Clauses' exist for those that live on/come from different, 'lower planes of life', than the producer (and, well, some of us).

In the United S of A, we are legally bound to protect other humanoid-type forms of life - you know you can go to jail if'n ya don't give 'em a chance to 'blow it' on their own, or help them get 'there'...

Scary is it not?  There is a legal disclaimer due to the ones that do thoughtless things, then say, "Well you never TOLD me it was dangerous!" I call this the Babysitter Syndrome.

After working in retail and seeing stupid people, I would say that many idiots read the disclaimer, understand that it doesn't protect against STDs, and then still think it will.  Or, they are too lazy to read it/can't read.  These are probably the same geniuses who think using two condoms (of course, one of them thumbtacked to their bulletin board with a gaping hole in it) would protect them even more than one. LOL

Some folks are experienced at 'playing the ponies', per se...in other words, "...well, doncha see, cancha tell, the odds are against me having anything other than a GREAT time - especially if'n I 'top it off' with 'K Y 2-in-1 Warming Gel'!!!"

Doncha know, cancha telll...these are the same idiots that believe mixers like 'Red Bull & Beer' are a 'neat thing'.

I'm thinkin' the 'gene pool' is overly full, right now...let 'em go - we know how to build dumps, so we also know how to build 'mass graves'.

Look up bill engvall's warning signs - pretty much rails against all the common sense warnings on products. I filed it away until your post made me remember it.

Unfortunately, the disclaimers have to be there because of stupid people who like to sue.  If they didn't have the disclaimer some asshat would get the clap and then sue Nuvaring because they didn't tell him that he wasn't protected.

I thought two condoms would prevent me from having twins!

When I was in college at age 23 I knew a promiscuous girl student that had a STRANGE method of preventing STDs.  She would have UNPROTECTED sex with whoever she took a notion to (even a stranger she had just met), THEN get tested for HIV and HepC.  When the test came back negative (God only knows how) she would then happily declare herself clean. I found out about this because she once propositioned me, and when I mentioned condoms, she declared herself to be on the pill and "totally safe".  This is how I found out about her "testing after the fact" method.  I did not TOUCH her after finding that out.  BTW this girl was a straight A nursing student who did indeed become a nurse!

What's sad that there are people out there (most likely teens or severely uneducated/downright dumb adults) that actually don't know they don't prevent STDs. I don't get it...how can people not know this??  I mean...I'm pretty young, 26, and I remember being cognizant of birth control when I was like...12.  I certainly didn't know about it because I was *using* it (or not using it on the opposite of the spectrum), but just because a) kids talk and b) we had sex education in the 7th and 8th grades at my school.  I don't think there's ever been a time that I knew about birth control where I thought it prevented STDs.  I went to a very small town, rural area school but I think they did a good job teaching us about the birds and the bees, and that was back in the mid-90's when teen pregnancy wasn't as flourishing as it is now.  I know kids are having sex earlier and earlier these days, but my gosh...don't they teach sex ed in schools at all anymore?

I just watched a Lifetime movie on this subject, believe it or not.  It was called "The Pregnancy Pact," based on a real event that made headlines a year ago or so about a bunch of teen girls that made a pact to get pregnant in a small town where the parents/school board refused to teach sex ed and/or distribute contraceptive items.  Guess what happened? The kids all ended up pregnant!

I don't get why people would be against it.  Teens are going to do it anyway so why not at least provide them with the knowledge/free materials to keep themselves safe?

Nope. The church groups put a sh*tload of pressure on the schools to only teach abstinence, and teachers groups (realizing that would do ZERO good) refused to teach only abstinence so until a court resolves it, few districts are willing to face the wrath.

It's a case of the churches having limitless money, and the schools not having enough to meet basic needs, let alone fight a legal battle.
