I could be wrong, I could be hallucinating, maybe what I saw was a result of PTSD:
During coverage of Obama getting a burger at a certain restaurant by Faux News, the banner below read: "Obama murders a cow to enjoy a pagan lunch" Did I see that, or did I imagine that an alleged news agency actually broadcast that 'news' which was as newsworthy as the equivalent of 'hot garbage smell' to a culinary-arts major as "east-coast american cuisine"? I'm literally in shock that a press-license wasn't revoked for this blatant bias towards slander/defamation as I have ever seen in all of recorded history. Did I really see this, or was I having some form of a mental-illness episode? |

Apparently you weren't hallucinating.
Either that or somebody else had the exact same hallucination.

I don't have any idea what "pagan lunch" is supposed to mean. Was there any explanation? What show was it on?
Might this have been commentary on the actual coverage of the news story by other news outlets? I know that FOX was doing that yesterday. Perhaps it was a reference to Rachel Maddow saying that the name/nature of the restaurant (Ray's Hell Burger) will probably piss off Christians and vegetarians.
That would be the only way the banner would make sense.

The "pagan lunch" part was probably a reference to the name of the restaurant. Was it meant to cast him in a bad light with conservative Christians for eating there? I don't know.
Sounds like the "murders a cow" comment was probably a back-handed slap at animal rights advocates who are primarily Democrats & likely voted for him.

My explanation seems more realistic. FOX and MSNBC have an antagonistic relationship, and both stations mock the other's news coverage. I can't imagine FOX seriously making a statement such as that one. Seems more tongue-in-cheek to me---a statement on Maddow's implication that conservative Christians (and vegetarians) are irrational nutcases.

Could be, but Maddow could've been being tongue-in-cheek too, even though what she said is likely true to a certain extent.
Some of the people in those two groups ARE irrational nut cases.
Given the world today & how people are, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to find out that some vegans were upset at him for publicly eating meat & some Christians were trying to make hay out of him eating at a place with the word "Hell" in it's name.

In researching this story, I didn't come across any Christian or vegetarian websites doing any such thing. I did, however, come across Maddow's clip saying that they will. She's a hunter (deer or duck, I don't remember), and so it makes sense that she might have something bad to say about vegetarians. Still, even in the clip, she emphasizes "the religious right" and kind of trails off when she says "and, of course-----the vegans".

That was it????? She ended her report with a little one sentence musing in which she suggested that a couple of groups might take offense with his choice of locales for such a high profile lunch trip, & it's being described as her "swooning"????? Then Fox has to respond to it with a snarky headline banner, & you're characterizing it as some kind of unfair swipe at Christians????

Oh, come on now!!!!!......
You're making it sound like she barely whispered "the vegans", while shouting "the religious right" at the top of her lungs.
She said both things with equal emphasis, she just put one ahead of the other.
That's really getting a tad nit-picky.

Well, I didn't say anything about swooning. That was whoever posted the video.
But (if this is, indeed, what the banner was all about), I don't see FOX' comment as being any snarkier than Maddow's comment. In fact, they simply joked about Maddow's own snarky little swipe at Christians, by making a swipe at her.
It'd be like someone making a comment about Jews running the world or something, and then, some Jewish group lampooning the comment by drawing a cartoon showing a Jew holding the globe by strings.
Jimbo, I simply said that FOX' banner might be in response to that. Fight the ridiculous with even more ridiculous, in other words.

I think your characterization of her comment as being a "snarky little swipe at Christians" is pretty thin.
She included vegans in the comment as well, & as we all know, vegans rend to be in the secular realm, so how could she be more fair?
You're trying to make her sound biased because even though she included both sides in her comment, she favored vegans by placing less emphasis on them.
That's going way overboard.
And if Fox wasn't trying to be snarky, why would they respond to her to begin with?
Because they, like you, want to try to mischaracterize her comment as being biased to the left.

Her comment didn't rise to anywhere near your example, but I see what you're trying to get at.
The thing is, her comment wasn't ridiculous.

That Google discussion thread has a couple of posts claiming that the 'pagan lunch' caption did not originate with Fox News Channel, but appeared to have been placed over whatever FNC originally had on screen. Presumably, since 'The Daily Show' was mentioned in the thread, it was their doing. It actually sounds like a pretty funny line for that show.
Of course, certain people on the 'Net don't quite understand that programs like 'The Daily Show' will leave the original network's logo onscreen when they show footage from the news channels.
The fact that it LOOKED like Fox had aired a wacky caption was enough for the 'Fauxheads' to make number 2 in their undies, as they are so wont to do.
Never let the facts get in the way of a good politically-biased diatribe.

So...
Prometheus!!
Some people are just so ready to hate "Faux" News. Never any good examples...and then, when they think they have one, it turns out to be truly "faux". It also makes it clear that they don't watch FOX. Otherwise, they'd know that the station would never seriously put up such a banner.

No, I don't watch Faux News because sometimes I actually want to know the truth about what is going on in the world, not some version with a christian fundamentalist-bent. Might I remind you all that it was Faux/MSNBC/CNN that simoutaneously reported that Obama was slashing the government budget from $534 billion or so , down to the lesser value of $585 billion? All three said he was slashing government funding, as he was increasing it.
To add to the profanely-inaccurate suppositions, all three networks call him a socialist, yet they do not seem to have a grasp of the actual meaning of socialism. Obama puts money to save an industry that we cannot afford to fail right now, and he's suddenly a socialist. He makes the upper-class pay their fair share of taxes, he's suddenly a socialist. He closes loopholes for tax-cheaters, and he's suddenly a socialist. He wants to restructure health-care to make it less costly and more efficient, and he's suddenly a socialist. I guess the "communist", "stalinist", "imperialist", and any of the other "-ists" didn't stick. Sounds like the exact same stigma that marijuana had in the "reefer madness" movement, as the same people are using their same basis for fact as always: "If it can be made to sound likely to those who don't even know what it is, then it must be an absolute truth". I guarantee you that the moment Obama or his drug czar might make the statement that the DARE program is not working, or anything similar, the "disinformation trifecta" will immediately say that Obama is telling everyone to give their children drugs and endorsing the use of all illegal drugs, or something equally-absurd. It is no coincidence that Faux News will never admit that what Obama is doing might actually be starting to work. |

Vegans and/or vegetarians wouldn't be offended by that. Puh-leez. So he stops at a burger joint. Just like ten billion other people each day. It's not like he was taking Gandhi to lunch, so what difference does it make?! |

There's no need to make Maddow sound biased. She is biased, she hosts a biased show on a biased network. |
