Hand-held game device - love it and I'm really bad at it. Can keep kids and old peeps entertained and out of your way for hours. Can play 'Strip-Bop' with your favorite friend not part of your immediate family (other than husband or wife), so I get all nekkie real quick & eager there, ladies! (and yes, I already know - some things just aren't meant to be seen anymore). Me? It ISN'T a 'board game', but I have found a new game that, in my heart of hearts, I just KNOW I need! In case anybody was wondering Bop It was a toy circa 1996 where you had to do a certain action after it tells you to complete with music. For example, if it tells you "Bop It!" You hit the "bop it" button, if it tells to "turn it" you turn the turning part. The commands and music gets faster and faster until you can't do it anymore! It was a primitive yet fun little toy, after in 1998 a new Bop It Extreme toy came out I remember playing with both of them at the daycare at our local YMCA after middle school.
Here's a Wikipedia link about it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bop_It |

Finance (a game similar to Monopoly), Monopoly, Checkers, Tip-It, Hands Down, Uno, Aggravation, Trouble, Cootie, and The Game Of Life were some of the games we played. Finance actually came out before Monopoly. My Grandma gave us a Monopoly game but the board and game pieces were missing. The hotels and houses were wooden instead of plastic. We used the Finance board to play Monopoly with a few conversions.

Monopoly, Checkers, Stratego, Risk, and Ogre were the main board games I played with family members. Also Battletech, though it was played on a paper map rather than a board, I guess it still counts. For cards, Uno and War were the main ones.

My family never played board games or did many other kinds of family activities when I was a kid.

Monopoly was a 'family favorite' with 'adjusted rules' depending upon where it was being played and who who was playing you. For example, some of my ChiTown cousins come from 'The Adjustment Bureau' and you could get 'hit' if you couldn't pay, or if you just pissed them off. In the end, nobody would play with me because I made people cry - especially kids. I'd have hotels everywhere and be able to break anyone before they could rob the community chest for a chance to get out of jail and they couldn't go to jail because they couldn't afford to get out! Kids start crying easy and then they run away...but when the parents started crying? I charged real money for that.

Monopoly was a popular family game, Chutes and Ladders, Chinese Checkers, Uno, Yahtzee.
Gin Rummy, Poker, Euchre. I learned to play chess at a fairly early age, love the strategy and thought process. |
