When someone makes that "head exploding" noise and motion with their hands. The only people who do that are in commericals and TV sitcoms, not real lifeErmm

Also even though its decades old now, the continuation of "dumb daddy" syndrome where the husband/boyfriend is ALWAYS portrayed as a dope in comparison to the woman in the ad

1. commercials with doorbell sounds - sets my dogs off.
2. commercials with common cell phone sounds
3. This applies more to radio, but commercials with sirens in them. Hear one when you're driving and you start looking around for the emergency vehicle.

The kids acting like their so much more older and mature than kids that are like 3 years younger than them! Case in point. 11 year old kids talking about the 8 year old kids who have life so easy. "When we were 8, we didn't have Smartphones to play with!" You were 8 three years ago. Get over yourselves! They make it seem like the 11 year old kids are like 31 talking about their 8 year old children! SMDH!
My name is Donathan, pronounced the same way you pronounce Jonathan, except with a D.😀 Hitting on a Lesbian who speaks to you and about you like trash means you're REALLY desperate! 😀

^^^ Another one that pisses me off is when people shout, "BOOM!" in a TV advert. Dead
This "phenomenon" has spread to videos on YouTube as well; it makes my OWWW! Turn that $#!7 down!!!!

I've never heard anyone say "Buh bam!" In real life. Though I have a co-worker that says," Awesome sauce," sometimes and awesome sauce is a word sometimes said in commercials.

The phrase, "Awesome sauce" was used in a commercial for a credit card -- Discover card if memory serves. I don't know what other commercials have this asinine phrase in them however.

VOCAL FRY!

It's EVERYWHERE!

It's very noticable, if you have a keen ear!
One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off

Just got back on here because of one of those GMC "such-and-such like a pro" adverts. "Such-and-such," in this case, is a placeholder for a word that everyone from the Schoolhouse Rock generation knows damn well is supposed to be a noun!

So there you go: two disgusting trends in one advert:
Nouns, adjectives or adverbs being used as verbs.
The mega-overused "_____ like a ___[pro/boss/rockstar/president/whatever]" construction.

AAARGHHHH!
LiMu Emu: the NEXT red meat!

What word is it?  I'm not from the Schoolhouse Rock generation and I'm too lazy to try to Google it.  Embarrassed

1. Taking selfies (I just want to kill each person that does this on a commercial)
2. Using a smart home gadget (Alexa/Google Home/etc)

Generally most commercials are complete torture. Taking too long to get to commercial-free television/cable.

First post, and probably nothing you haven't heard before. Maybe.

* Voiceover that sounds snarky, like Daria Morgendorfer (anyone remember "Daria", a cartoon on MTV?) or Alex Vause on "Orange is the New Black". Commercials for Trojan condoms are a major offender.

* Whistling, ukuleles, glockenspiels, and/or clapping.

* Vocal fry and adding "uh" to the end of sentences. (Oh my God, it's Dove-UH!")

* Commercials where text is scrolling down the screen, and someone is reading it verbatim. For some reason, the aspect ratio of commercials where this happens is almost always 4:3.

* The token light-skinned, curly-haired black woman with Anglo facial features who appears in every ad now. Where's the black men? Where's the Asians and South Asians?

* On Spanish-language television in the US, indiscriminate use of deep male baritone voiceovers in so many commercials, including ads for tampons, shampoo, yogurt, and the like.

* On Canadian commercials, obligatory, patronizing "redwashing" or appeal to Canadian identity, even in ads for American brands.

* Filming every national ad in the Los Angeles area, specifically the San Fernando Valley or Pasadena.

* 1980s style rapping in PSAs and commercials targeting a younger audience (Education Connection, etc.).

* Yoga. Yoga everywhere.

* "Oh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now! I been feeling it since 1966, now!" Portugal the Man's "Feel it Still" is today's equivalent of "Song 2" by Blur 15 years ago -- it's everywhere!

Welcome to CIH Forums!

I personally loathe the vocal fry, and I'm a native of Southern California, although have never been a Valley Girl.  That snarky and superior voice is annoying too.  I haven't seen the Trojan ads though.  Embarrassed

I don't know about the Canadian redwashing as I've not seen any Canuck commercials.

Hope you like it here and come back often!  Smile
