Yet, we take them into our homes and hearts, knowing they'll only be with us for awhile and knowing how sad it will make us when they pass on.

I guess the unconditional love they give us is worth all the pain we know we will feel at their loss.

They become such a big part of you that that part of you dies when they die.

Two of my cats are 15.  I make sure they get plenty of love every day...even if I have to hold them down and force it on them.  LOL

They actually like that even though they act like they don't.

They understand the affection.

True.  It never stops them from coming back later and letting it all happen again.  In fact, they actually seek it out.

I call it "making out" with them.  'Cuz that's kinda what it is.

I call it "cat rasslin".

They try to get away and I almost let them, then kind of roll them over and around, tickle their belly or chest then let them latch around my hand etc, etc.

Usually only for about a minute or two then I let them go.

But like you said, they come back again later for more.

We are both hearing 'ghost' sounds from Leah. I'm sure it's just our imagination.

Those familiar sounds like her tags jingling when she moved.

Mama doesn't like it when I leave. Before, when I left she was not alone.
Leah was here with her.

I'm sure her absence has left a void in the house.

So are you going to get another dog fairly soon, wait awhile or have you sworn off of pets for the foreseeable future?

No new pets until we get out of this house. We love animals but when selling a house they don't help.

I didn't know you were selling.  When I was selling my house, I locked the cats outside for a few hours at a time.  I hated doing that, even though they were used to being out sometimes the entire day (on their own volition).  Luckily, my house sold after about 10 people looked at it.  I think it sold in 8 days.

Mickey's into that.  I call it "arm battle".  I get him on his back, rub his belly.  Then he latches around my arm and kicks and bites at it.  I get scratched up a bit sometimes, but nothing serious.  He used to actually come looking for it.  He'd hop up on the coffee table, crouch down and give me that "let's rumble" look.

My cat gets kinda rough when I do that. He doesn't realize how sharp his claws and teeth are.

So I do that very carefully.

But I'll also kinda wrestle with him.

Roll him around a little, use his own weight against him etc.

But very gently.

Rocco's the one I have to be careful with.  He wants to be played with, but if it goes on too long, his ears go back and he'll bite/scratch/hiss.  Then he runs off.  I never had that problem with Mick, Mal or Killer.  In fact, Mickey's only hissed at me once.  That was when I had to pull him back in through the cat door by his tail when he went to do a meet and greet with a raccoon out on the patio.

Mal's never hissed at me.  He's just always given me very judgemental looks.  LOL

ConfusedI too have heard the collar jingle and seen the shadow weiner-dachy rear-ends passing the office doorway. I don't talk about it, but I'm glad they are here.Big smile

You can be a little harsh, PaW.

I enjoy and look forward to talk about people and their animals.

You're just jelly! Wink
