Well, Halloween has come and gone and is, once again, over for another year.
Amidst the feelings of disappointment I feel at it's lack of luster due to various factors including no Trick or Treaters around here and the fact that I sat home like I do every year instead of going out somewhere, it occurs to me that for me anyway, the real fun of Halloween is in the build up to it. The month is October, which itself is fun, going out and buying Halloween junk is fun. This year I made my own cardboard decorations and hung them in the front yard. That was fun. Posting the nekkid Thor cartoon here is always good for a chuckle. And... I went to the Halloween party at the senior center again. Kinda boring this year. Last year they had pizza and played Halloween themed bingo. This year it was just chili and a costume contest which I left prior to. So, really, the day and night itself is kind of an anti climax for me. I'll just tell myself the same thing I did last November 1st... "Maybe next year I'll go out and do something on Halloween." |

We had none of that horse puckey either (e.g., no uncooked eggs, no toilet paper, no M80s in the mailbox, no shaving cream, etc.); though I did politely ask a younger child, "What do you say?" when he thrust his bag forward and looked at the candy container with his eyes as big as dinner plates. Once he said, "Tricker Treat", THEN he got some candy.
I had a pair of comments on the decorations; a teen boy said, "Cool, they've got glow sticks" in reference to the Life+Gear battery-powered glow wands that I had deployed on both sides of the otherwise-dark lower stairs. Later, a mother thanked me for deploying the glow wands to light up the same stairs as her young child stumbled up them in his Grim Reaper costume (complete with cardboard & aluminum foil scythe with broomstick handle).

YOU GUYS!!! I have to say, the kids that came to our door were so polite! All "THANK YOU's" and "HAPPY HALLOWEEN". No eggs, no shaving cream, no grabing. I love Rhode Island! |

As long as you turn your toes cutely inward like the girl above, I'm sure you'd be lovely. |

I can only wish I'd look as good in that costume as the gal on the right.
Or this... I'd just look like a fat guy in a dress with a red mop on his head. |

Oh her, definitely. I'd be wearing something like that Superman costume Larry Hooper was wearing. Or maybe the Frankenstein costume. But probably just the ol' birthday suit. |

That's worded ambiguously. Would she be wearing it, or would you? |

The one last night was from 1975.
Here's about a 10 minute chunk of it... The "lovely Mexican senorita" showed up for a number, too It's not in this clip, though. Don't know why the entire show is not on YouTube. There's this really cute gal dressed as a Raggedy Ann doll who did a number I would like to see again. |

I see Welk had two Halloween shows---one in the mid-60s and one in the mid-70s. Which one did you see? I'm more of a fan of 50s and 60s Lawrence. Sometime around 1974, they upped the sophistication of the show, making it somewhat classier. I preferred it in all its hokey 50s and 60s glory. I did, however, like Anacani, Lawrence's "lovely Mexican senorita", who showed up in the mid-70s or so. |

I watched a good bit of it.
Odd. Watched the Lawrence Welk Halloween Party show. It was OK, but I didn't really like the song selection much. |
