It's sunny but cold, about 4 inches of snow with some drifting. The snowblower kicked my ass.

Gettin' a dog!!

Well, my bro is.  We just went to some pet trainer an hour away yesterday to see a rescue Shelty that she has (she's involved specifically in Shelty rescues).  My bro fell in love (with the Shelty, not the trainer).  The dog's 6+ years old, well-behaved and a real sweetheart.  We had to go to an ATM to get cash, as he didn't expect to adopt so quickly, and so, didn't bring a checkbook.  It cost $350.

Somehow, my bro actually found the original owner on Facebook.  She lives in a condo at the Jersey shore and had to give him up after he nipped at a small dog.  She claims he was just playing, possibly herding, as Sheltys do.  She was thrilled to hear that the dog's being adopted.  Coincidentally, she grew up in the neighborhood next to the one we did.

My bro's gonna name him Bullitt.  His original name is Bill.  That could be a problem.  My bro will call my name, and the dog will come.  LOL

Anyway, he's out buying supplies right now (gates, a cage, toys, food, bowls, collar, etc.).  No doubt he'll spend another $500.

I'm hoping the dog and the cats can coexist.  We'll try to keep them apart for awhile (thus, the gates).

Congratulations on the new dog!!!

And the "interesting" new household aromas you'll soon be enjoying!!!

And the new waking up in the middle of the night to him barking at something opportunities!!!!

And the new feeding and poop cleanup duties opportunities!!!

And the new taking him out for a walk three times a day duties opportunities!!!

And the new vet bills!!!

Re: the name, is your brother going to get him a membership in the NRA, too?

Maybe an NRA cap to wear outside? (Y'know, to alternate with his MAGA cap)

Hope it all works out well for everybody.

My bro's a big Mustang fan.  In fact, he's trading in his '14 GT 6-speed convertible for an '18.  So, "Bullitt" seemed like a good name.

I'm not real worried about the cats.  Nor the responsibilities.  It's gonna be my bro's dog, so all that's on him.  I'll help out.  I love dogs.

Congratulations, Thor and Thor's Bro!!!  That's wonderful to rescue a rescue dog.  Shelties are pretty awesome.  The breed is from Scotland.  They can adapt to sharing a home with cats.  Hope your kitties enjoy their new canine friend.  Big smile

You must post a pic of the fam's new arrival!

We actually considered "McQueen", but didn't really want the tranny association.

I wanted to call him "Mr. McF*ckles".

Thanks!

My bro's had 2 Shelties.  One died, the other went with his ex-wife.

I want the dog and cats to get along.  Not that I expect them to be friends, but I don't want them to avoid each other.  I just worry my cats are going to confine themselves to one floor while the dog stays on the other.

His first Sheltie (Shelby) used to herd his cats, and gather up all the toys at night.  Then he'd lay outside the bedroom doors guarding the cats, toys and my bro and his wife until he fell asleep.  It was as if he just wanted to know that everyone and everything was in its place before he himself could fall asleep.

OMG!  In my maybe-someday-fantasies of adopting a dog, I was thinking of Shelties and thought Shelby would be a great name!

Don't give up on the cats and dog thing too soon.  Give it time, lots of time.  Patience is the key to success.  When I brought my foster cat home, it took many months for her to accept my other cat.  Now they snuggle together and the Russian Blue foster cat gives my tortoiseshell cat lots of loving every day by thoroughly cleaning her head, face and ears.

Unfortunately, that never happened with my tortoiseshell kitty. She was OK with my former male cat Buddy, but he was here before her, so I guess she didn't feel like her space was being invaded. But after Buddy died and she ruled the roost for about a year or so, when I brought Fidget in, she rejected him out of hand.

To this day, if he gets near her she hisses at him then runs and hides. If I keep her in the house, she'll go in the utility room, squirrel herself away under a storage shelf and never come out. So now she lives on my enclosed front porch where she can perch herself right outside the window and Fidget lives in the house.

They both seem to be OK with he arrangement.

No report about the dog vs cats introduction. I hope all is well in Rockaway.

Ouch! I just hurt my shoulder patting myself on the back! The gas and electric bill was about a dollar less than last month.  I have to give the little woman some credit too, we sleep in shifts. I have to get up late at night and again early in the morning to keep the fire hot.

They haven't met yet.  That happens tomorrow, depending on how the roads are (weather's been bad, roads are treacherous today and maybe tomorrow).

I shoveled my ass off today! Classes were cancelled, fell on my ass trying to shovel my dad's driver side of his car! I'm fine, was embarrassing than painful.

Good luck on your dog cat meeting Thor! Talking about Thor BTW I saw the beginning of "Thor: Ragnarok" before my dentist cleaned my teeth, very entertaining!

I'm a little stressed these days.  Mama's youngest daughter took a job at Subway. She has 2 kids (our grandkids) and a SO that is a good guy. My wife has turned into a babysitter. She's gone a lot.  I miss her!

Time to put your foot down.  "Mama, it's either the grandkids or me!"  No?  Well, why don't you get a dog?  That should keep you occupied for a while!  Big smile

The dog's here!  He's getting used to the place.  Very sweet, and very well-behaved.  I think my Mickey wants to hang with the dog, but the dog seems a bit afraid of him.  Mickey's scared of other people, but apparently not of dogs.  Go figure.

Rocco, on the other hand, is terrified.

I've never known a dog name of 'Bill' - that's just too weird. 'Mcf**kles' gets MY vote (and reading that sent me straight for my breathing medsLOL)

Back in the 80's, David Letterman had two dogs named Bob & Stan.

6 and 1/2 y/o Sheltie.

Bullitt.  He's apparently had several names (one with the previous owner and one with the rescue group)---Cody and Bill.  But Cody is the name of my bro's former father-in-law's Sheltie, and Bill's my name---so, he needed a new one.
