I love the smell of a real pine tree. We go with the artificial for convenience and its less of a fire hazard.
Once she gets all the decorations on, it looks pretty good. In my single days, I might put some lights up in the window, but thats about it. As a matter of fact, on my [to do] list tomorrow, is get out the X-mas stuff and put away Halloween/Thanksgiving decorations. Outdoors, I have a single row of ice-cicle lights along the gutters facing the street and a snowman w/lights in the back yard. I can see it from my chair in the dining room. Its helps me see all the wind and blowing snow. |

artificial. We have some pests in our area that love those kinds of tree, so they're right out.

We used to have real Christmas trees (Jack Pines that we would go up the ski trail in West Juneau AK. to cut down ourselves) but these days, it's phoney-bologna all the way...less vacuuming, less for the cats to get into trouble with, etc.

Here's an idea... if you love the smell of real pine trees but also enjoy the convenience & lower cost of a fake tree, go with the fake tree, then find a store that's selling real trees outside the entrance, or a Christmas tree lot, & pick up a bunch of discarded branches that have been trimmed off the bottoms of the trees for sale (or if you're bold & sneaky enough, take a pair of snips & cut your own off) then bring them home & make a big hanging or table style wreath.
Or both!!!
You'll be able to enjoy that nice Christmas tree scent in your home without having to mess around with & fork over the big cash for a real tree.
You can buy wire wreath frames at any craft & hobby store for a couple of bucks. |

Been using the same early 70's arti. tree for as long as I can remember (except for one year when we used the top of a cedar tree in the yard that we cut down.) Trying to get some Japanese yew tree cuttings to take so that I can start a topiary to put in the yard to decorate (a slow grower that should take about 20 years to get to a decent size.... )

We have a very attractive, downswept artificial tree our daughter and son-in-law gave us. They bought a seven footer.

Real trees suck! I don't want that smell and mess in my house.
Artificial trees all the way in the Mooch house. In fact, my sister and I just finished putting it up. We love to decorate it. That's another thing - we get the tree that's plain; none of that pre-lit sh*t. We call that the lazy people's tree. |

I'm with Jimbo--or I would be, if I could talk the wife and son into it.
We've had a real tree every year since we were married in 1978. It was nice going for a tree when we were newlyweds. After our son came along and got to be about three, we started going to cut-your-own tree farms, and we've done that ever since. Fortunately my son is still at home to do the heavy lifting. When he moves out someday, I'll probably insist on going artificial. I'll gladly buy a bundle or two of real greens so we can have the live tree smell in the house! |

My Christmas tree is invisible. I put some plastic candle light things in the windows, and that's it. I wouldn't want people to think I hate the Baby Jesus.

I don't think my family has used a real tree since I was very young. When I was 6 or 7 we got one of those aluminum trees with the branches coming out of the paper sleeves. We got a green artificial tree in about 1983.

I remember my family used to do that a few times back when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun. Nowadays we just get the artifical ones though. I wish we could find the place we went to because they had a huge junkyard nearby full of old cars, some even going back to the 30s. We could sure use it for the old cars we restore.

Just went shopping. Christmas trees were bundled up just outside the entrance to the store.
As I was leaving, there were a couple of medium sized branches lying on the sidewalk, so I picked them up. Got home, made a clean, angled cut across the bottom of the main branch, stuck them in a vase & added water. Set them next to the lamp on the table next to my easy chair. Enjoying that Christmas tree aroma as I post. |

I don't understand fake trees.
Why bother?

^ I'm sure with most people it's mainly a monetary issue.
Buy a fake tree once every 8 or 10 years as opposed to forking out 40 or 50 bucks every year for something you might use for a month at best, then chuck on the curb. And there is the issue of the mess & hassle associated with having a dead tree in your house for a month... Personally, I'd rather have a real one too, but like Thor, I don't put up a tree. |

Unless you're exchanging gifts and/or are entertaining guests, why bother with a tree. Trees are for putting gifts under and for the kiddies.
Gift wrapping empty boxes addressed To:Tiz From: Santa got old after the first year.
I do decorate with lights and maybe a wreath on the door. And Christmas scented candles.

My folks had a real tree for a number of years until maybe the early 60s when they got an aluminum one with a color wheel. After that, it was a fake green one. The tree and all the boxes of decorations exuded the smell of attic, which is where it was all kept the rest of the year. "Attic" is its own great smell.

stubby little fake tree (about 4 feet?) pre-lit. Can I tell you how much I HATE this tree? Every year I swear I'll get a new one but every year I never find the time or money. My house is too small for anything bigger. Once it's decorated it looks marginally better. Sigh... I'll be dragging it out of storage soon.

Maybe I'll hang an ornament on my ficus tree. I just brought it back inside for the winter. My living room could barely accomodate that, let alone a Christmas tree. I guess if I really wanted to, I could find space. Sounds like way too much hassle to me, though. I know what Christmas trees look like; I don't need to have one.
My neighbors have those giant inflatable snowmen they'll be putting on their front lawn soon. First, they have to get rid of all the giant inflatable Halloween ghosts and pumpkins. God, I hate those things. Lights are good; giant inflatable crap on the front lawn is not.
