Here at The Estate In The Swamp, it is 61 and sunny while I am cooking pork chops and sauerkraut and bragging to one of my  colleagues who lives up near The Den...he says he hates me and so does his wife...they sent THIS, for today:

We have a nasty forecast for the weekend, we can deal with snow.  I don't like freezing rain.

A WEATHER AWARE DAY WEEKEND...

From StormCenter 2 Meteorologist Steve Beylon:

Today is a quiet weather day. We'll have mostly sunny skies and light southwest winds. High temperatures this afternoon will be mainly between 30 to 35 degrees.

However, a WINTER STORM WATCH has been posted for areas NORTHWEST of the Fox Valley for Saturday night into Sunday. These areas have the potential to pick up 8-16" of snowfall during this time period.

Meanwhile, A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been posted for areas SOUTH of Lake Winnebago for Saturday morning. These areas could see up to 1/4" of ice accumulation. For those traveling south to Madison or Milwaukee tomorrow morning, will probably encounter very icy roads.

So, we're expecting snow, mixed with freezing rain Saturday morning. Then, look for a lull in the weather Saturday afternoon. But then, the main event arrives Saturday night. Rain and freezing rain, will switch to snow after midnight and last through Sunday morning. Don't be surprised if you hear thunder! As the storm passes, strong west winds of 30 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow. It's possible to see wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Bottom line - Keep checking back for updates!

You can always keep our forecast handy with our free weather app. Look for Storm Center 2 On the Go in the Apple app store and Google Play.

WIND FORECAST:

TODAY: W/SW 1-10 MPH
SATURDAY: E 10-20 MPH

It was in the upper 80's here today.

Felt like April or May.

I haven't looked closely, looks like about 1/4 inch of ice on the Ash tree.  The branches a drooping pretty bad.  They are predicting wind gusts up to 60 MPH, this may not end well.

White out...

a weather condition in which snow and clouds change the way light is reflected so that only very dark objects can be seen

Or, in my own words.  You can't see 10 feet in front of you. Both hands on the wheel keeping it going straight. Butthole clinched hoping no one is in front of you.  Here in town it's not bad at all, just a few hundred yards outside the city limits, it's like that dangerous trucking show in Alaska!
Have you ever driven in a whiteout? Not the smartest thing I did today, but the day is still young! Tongue

Pouring down snow in Yakima. Again. Yawn. Already 2, maybe 3" of new snow on the cars. We melted a little bit of it, but not enough. Still white stuff everywhere yesterday afternoon before the new snowstorm.

What a PITA morning it has been! I'm not sure when the plow came through here yesterday but he left a mountain of what has turned into ice at the end of the driveway. I've got a big badass truck, right?  Well, I gently tried to go over it and got stuck big time.  Great!  I have 2 or 3 lengths of heavy tow chain, Mama's Edge is all wheel drive. There was a couple of feet of dry pavement just outside the overhead door.  I hooked her truck up to mine, put mine in neutral and pulled it off of the hump.

I've been out there, freezing, chipping away at it with my maul. I was able to get out to get some milk and cig. tubes. A lot more work to do before we can even try to get her vehicle over it.

I thought I screwed something up when I got stuck, first one brake warning light came on, then another.

Once I was out on the road the lights went off.

Meanwhile, as I was on my joyride (firewood) during a White Out on a rural Wisconsin highway.  This was happening not too far from here.

UPDATE: One dead, dozens hurt in 130+ car pileup on I-41 in Neenah

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WBAY) — One person died and dozens of people were hurt in a massive pileup during whiteout conditions on southbound Interstate 41 in Neenah.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, 131 vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office says 71 people were taken to hospitals in the area. Sixty-six of them were treated and released. Five people were admitted for their injuries.

Authorities say it took about two hours to stabilize the scene, which involved getting injured people to the hospital, bussing other people involved in the crash to warming locations and escorting off the highway about 500 vehicles that were stopped behind this crash.

I had to let Mama take my truck to the dentist, I've been chipping away at it but the hump is still too big for her vehicle to cross it. My truck is a Z 71 Off Road model so I have skid plates in all of the important places.

We were lucky enough that while I was getting the truck out of the garage here comes the mail lady. I told her to go get the mail from her.  I haven't cleaned up around the mailbox yet because...BECAUSE IT'S TOO HARD! She (the mail lady) had to get out of her car to reach the neighbors box.  I drove the truck on to the street because I know where to do it and how fast. I told her to park in the street and I would put it in the garage.

Hate to hear about such things.

It's too bad daily life can't just take a timeout during such conditions so everyone can stay home safe and off the highways.

I've had these partial bags of softener salt for years now since I cleaned out the old water softener so someone could remove it. Some of the pellets look like the original product, other bags have melted into a solid mass of heavy.  I thought...what the hell!  The city might yell at me! The gutter leads to a drain that goes into the channel.

I put some of this salt on (the great hump of aka's driveway).  It worked pretty well!  I took a regular digging shovel out there and reduced it by quite a bit. My truck doesn't bottom out at all but it's not quite 'Edge' ready. She hates not being able to use her truck! I doubt she knows how to kick a shovel as well as I do. It's not easy for me with a body that's falling apart.

Another fresh 3 or 4 inches of that flaky white stuff.  Mama shoveled the whole driveway last time, she likes the exercise. I used the snowblower this morning, the plow has not been through here yet, not quite done until that happens.

That's a pretty cool lift bridge, not sure I've seen one of those around here.  Green Bay does get some of those bigger Great Lakes Ships.

It was frickin' hot here today.

The forecast was 85, but it felt a little hotter by late afternoon.

Supposed to get chilly again next week.

Overnight lows in the 40's. I know that's balmy and comfortable for you all, but it's still jacket weather.

Another long, miserable summer is right around the corner.

WinkI think you would be safer if you moved from Floriland to a cooler, safer climate that will still exist in the next decade of Global Warming. Ever thought about the Poconos? We all worry about and care for the ol'Mule...and you'd be closer to Thor.

Nah.

I live far enough inland that the worst thing I have to worry about is having a slightly shorter drive to the beach.
