LOL I don't know about you, but I already had that association before I ever saw the commercial.

Even as a young child, I observed that Kmart was sub-par in terms of cleanliness, quality of merchandise, customer service, etc. We often called it Kfart. Then there was the store called Venture. Anyone ever been to a Venture? It was like a step or two up from Kmart/Kfart.

KMart reminds me of some of the department stores I went to as a kid---Woolworths, Bradlees, EJ Korvettes, Two Guys---but without the newness, the good lighting and the activity that those stores had.  Also, without the grocery department that KMart has.  To me, grocery departments seem to cheapen a department store.

Several year ago, back in the 80's & 90's, most of the KMarts around here were pretty nice stores.

The one I used to shop at a lot was decent looking inside & the one up in Winter Park was (& still is I think) really nice.

There was another one on the east side of town I had to switch to after the one I used to frequent closed down, that was pretty ratty looking inside & it has since closed too.

When I was a kid back in the 60's & early 70's growing up over near the coast, there was a big store on Merritt Island called J M FIELDS.

That place was the quintessential dirty, baragain bin, crap hole of which you speak.

Looked a lot like this one.

So, they're upset about implied foul language??  I might see their point in being against the indiscriminate use of actual foul language*...but this?  C'mon, already, "Moms"**!!  Pick your battles more wisely.

*  My main gripe is that people use the foul language, and then it gets beeped or silenced.  I find that more distracting than whatever "bad words" they used.  Thus, I'd rather people watch their language on TV.

**  By "Moms", I mean the entire one or two members of this organization, which is probably more a website than an actual movement.

Nope.

They are part of The American Family Association...

Quote

The American Family Association (AFA) is a United States non-profit organization that promotes conservative fundamentalist Christian values. It opposes same-sex marriage, pornography, and abortion. It also takes a position on a variety of other public policy goals and has lobbied against the Employee Free Choice Act. It was founded in 1977 by Donald Wildmon as the National Federation for Decency and is headquartered in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The AFA defined itself as "a Christian organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society with primary emphasis on television and other media," later switching their stated emphasis to "moral issues that impact the family." It engages in activism efforts, including boycotts, buycotts, action alert emails, publications on the AFA's web sites or in the AFA Journal, broadcasts on American Family Radio, and lobbying. The organization is accredited by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and posted a 2011 budget of over US$16 million. AFA owns 200 American Family Radio stations in 33 states, seven affiliate stations in seven states, and one affiliate TV station KAZQ TV) in New Mexico.

AFA has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center as of November 2010 for the "propagation of known falsehoods" and the use of "demonizing propaganda" against LGBT people. AFA has been criticized for its opposition to LGBT rights.

One Million Moms/One Million Dads project

AFA created One Million Moms and One Million Dads, two websites with the stated goal of mobilizing parents to "stop the exploitation of children" by the media. It uses these websites to organize boycotts and urge activists to send emails to mainstream companies employing advertising, selling products, or advertising on television shows they find offensive. In 2012, the group started and then backed off from a failed campaign against the hiring of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson for department store chain JC Penney. They opposed her employment on the grounds that DeGeneres is "an open homosexual". At a taping of her show, DeGeneres informed her audience of the fizzled effort: "They wanted to get me fired and I am proud and happy to say JC Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson."

The One Million Moms expressed opposition to Marvel and DC Comics issues which featured gay characters. They described the story lines as a "brainwashing and desensitizing experience" for children, written to "influence them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable."

On December 6, 2012, One Million Moms released a statement on their website, again objecting to JC Penney's use of Ellen DeGeneres as spokesperson in a Christmas-themed commercial, saying, "Since April, JC Penney's has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now. A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again."

The organization has also criticized GEICO for a commercial showing Maxwell the Pig in a car with a human girl, saying it suggests bestiality.

I remember going to KMart all the time when I was a kid, bought 45's there all the time. (Records, kids. Records.) The one nearest me closed 20+ years ago, and the next closest one closed within the past month. I have no idea where the next closest one is now. But they still show commercials, like this one. It's enough to make me wanna ship, Period. LOL

This commercial might be part of a trend- there is (was?) a cheap looking "game" show called "Oh Sit!". Then there was a movie family called the "Fockers". Ha ha Ermm

You probably just "shipped" your pants when you found out Kmart was still in business, right?

I guess I'm in the minority here -- I actually liked this commercial (the vid. in this thread being the first time I've seen it)...maybe just because it sounds like they're saying, I can "shiit my pants". LOLSmileLOL
