Former 80's lightweight boxing champ Hector "Macho" Camacho is clinging to life after being shot several times in the face & neck while visiting his hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico yesterday.

He & a friend, who was killed in the attack, were sitting in a car outside a bar when the attack happened. There was cocaine found in the pocket of his friend's coat.

Camacho made local news a few months ago here in Orlando where he resides, when he was arrested for slamming his teenage son to the ground during a dispute.

Doctors at first thought he was going to recover, but his condition took a turn for the worse last night when he suffered a heart attack. Apparently his wounds have impeded the blood flow to his brain & his measured brain activity is sporadic. It is also possible that even if he survives, he could be paralyzed because a bullet fractured vertebrae in his neck.

They may decide to remove him from life support soon if it looks like his condition will not improve.

Best of luck Mr. Camacho with hopes & prayers for a full recovery.

His 'hometown' with his 'homies', eh?
For some, what can be better than "A night out with a good friend with a little 'toot', for a beer an' a shot..."?
~~~
"You can never go home again"
or was it....
"You might be better off NOT going anywhere near 'home' again"
~~~
Not one to ever wish another anything bad, here's for a speedy recovery so you can face chages for physically abusing your own offspring.

I'm always hearing of people getting shot "while sitting in a car".  It usually happens around 1 or 2am.  Probably not a good thing to do.

I guess it all depends on where the car is parked. Camacho & his friend were parked outside a bar when that happened.

A guy my dad knew from the military base in Bangkok, Thailand where he was stationed in 1968, was leaving a bar late one night & got ran thru with a machete in the parking lot.

Bad things tend to happen outside bars.

Considering 'safety', maybe it is necessary to 'raise the bar' when sitting in a car outside a bar unless it is desired to end up face-down on the road tar, not far from the car at the bar.

It's official.  He's not merely nearly dead.  He's really most sincerely dead.

RIP, H"M"C.

What makes it seem all the more strange, at least if you live around here, is that after all those years of never hearing anything about the guy, having drifted into virtual obscurity, just a few months ago his name & TV image surfaced locally because of a domestic violence/battery charge against him after he threw his teenage son down on the ground.

And now, this.

It's like "Oh yeah, that guy... forgot all about him..." & then "Bam, he's dead."

^  A little like Larry Hagman who'd been "gone" for years up until his return to Dallas this year---minus the domestic violence issues, of course.

Yeah, & sadly, he isn't the first victim of his own fame & success nor will he be the last.

From Hendrix, Joplin & Morrison to Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon & Amy Winehouse etc.

Some people just can't handle it.

Did anyone here ever watch the Tyson documentary?

Talk about unexpected articulation and wisdom.

Saw him in a very different way after watching it.
