^  There's some Chef-Boy-R-Dee commercial out there, in which the father heats up a can of ravioli for his toddler.  I first thought "He can't boil up some actual ravioli and pour some sauce over it?"  Then I thought "The kid doesn't know the difference.  In fact, feed it to him right outta the can.
What do kids know about ravioli?"

In fact, I've been known to eat ravioli right outta the can myself.

When my friends' son was about 6, the only thing that mattered to him was that he could get his own "individual" pizza in its own box.  And when my neighbors have a birthday party for their 7 and 11 year-olds, they get the cheapest crappiest pizza available (along with those buckets of cheap ice cream).  The kids go nuts over it.

In my opinion, this is one of the things that's great about kids.  LOL
From 8 through 12 grade I could get pizza, spagetti, Spanish rice, PB&J, giant chocolate chip cookie, soft serve ice cream cone, or hamburger for $.20 each and cola, orange, lemon lime, or milk for $.10 at morning, lunch, or afternoon break. I could live off of those for much less than $20 per month now!

Hobgoblins don't care what their meat tastes like as long as it screams when they bite it. Seriously when I was a kid I actually thought school cafeteria pizza was great. Dead

So did I.

Still do, aamof.

I remember exactly what it tasted like & would LOVE to have a big ol' slab of it right now!!!! Tongue

Back in those days they made it themselves in the school kitchen. They used the same meat sauce they used on the spaghetti & mac-n-beef. Had yellow cheese on it & the crust had lots of flour on the bottom.

Just awesome stuff.

Nowadays, they just buy it at a discount bulk price from a local pizza chain & resell it at a profit.

Sucks.

I can't eat it right out of the can, I have to heat it up in the microwave.  But it's good, especially if you season it with a little Tony C.

I used to make sandwiches out of it.

Put about 3 or 4 of them on cheap hamburger buns.

Cheetos or barbeque potato chips on the side.

Good after coming home drunk & hungry late at night.

I also like to heat it up & add extra ground beef & can/jar sauce.

Toast up some GB & you've got a hearty little meal.

The Chef Boy-ar-dee canned "lasagna" is good to do that with also.

Yes! They used to be the second best fast food pizza (second only to early-90's Pizza Hut, which has also gone down the drain in recent years) and now their pizza is just mediocre garbage like the others. It's a real shame.

Strapped for cash and short on time, and with my curiousity piqued by this thread, I decided to give LC the ol' college try and picked up a $5 pepperoni...

....it wasn't that bad...not as good as a local pizza joint by any means, but definitely far superior to any other chain pizzas I've had lately.

The sausage ravioli are OK.  A few times, I've rinsed off the Chef-Boy-R-Dee ketchup sauce, and poured some better sauce on them.

And kids love McDonald's and other fast-food places even though the quality of the food is usually not very good.  Most adults I know who eat fast food eat it because it's convenient and cheap, not because they think it tastes good.

I just now saw that "Mime" spot posted above and immediately came here to see if there was anything about it.  VERY, VERY disturbing.

The quality of Little Caesar's pizza has indeed gone downhill in recent years, whereas the quality of Domino's has improved.  Now they're about the same in terms of quality.  I'm also glad I'm not the only one who thinks Pizza Hut has also gone down the tubes.  Yet I still make it a point to get to Pizza Hut when I can because they're the only chain that offers stuffed crust pizza in my neck of the woods.  Whenever I order a stuffed-crust pizza though, the crust is just fine, but the rest of the pizza is thin, limp and barely has any cheese on it.  The cheesy breadsticks usually make up for it though.

Jet's isn't bad but overrated in my opinion.  I stay away from Hungry Howie's when I can, ever since I made the mistake of eating a HH deep-dish that apparently wasn't cooked enough, because I had terrible stomach cramps all night.  I haven't had Papa John's in a number of years, but I remember it being pretty good when I was in college.  Who needed breadsticks - every pizza came with garlic and marinara dipping sauces for you to dip the crust into!

My favorite chain pizza is Marco's, which is a local chain in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.  Their thin-crust pizza is excellent.

Lately though, I've been getting Boboli thin-crust whole-wheat pizza crusts from the store and making my own with shredded mozzarella, Prego spaghetti sauce and sliced ham.  It's better than most chain pizzas and also a hell of a lot cheaper.

The man I have been with for the last five years manages a Little Caesars store in our city, and he is 11 years my junior. So I was explaining to him the other day about how L.C when I was in high school used to have the whole Pizza Pizza thing going, with the still rectangle shaped pizzas not round, and they used to have pepperoni bread instead of crazy bread. I loved the pizza when I was younger, it WAS better. They have become more of a fast food type thing, fast cheaply made pizzas. But it IS alright for those who wish to feed a large family on a low budget. That IS who its demographic is after all. If you want a gourmet pizza, you will be paying 35 dollars. If you want something thats decent enough for five dollars nowdays it works. But it once was much much greater, and I told him about that. He grew up after it changed.

By the way guys, Little Caesars makes their commercials stupid on PURPOSE okay. The one newer one where the guy pulls his shirt off is one of the recent ones, and the horse one. They are supposed to be silly. This one was not their best work even for stupid however.

....um, pretty sure we understand that they're supposed to be "silly", problem is it's not, it's just downright stupid and uninspired. What's the point of advertising this way except giving a good chunk of the population the impression that you can't come up with anything better. Crappy advertising fits crappy pizza I guess.

I too fondly remember the "old" LC. There was one at the end of my street and I swear my family would get pizza from them once a week. It was good stuff.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

Who knew an "edited" version of this commercial exists?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fZ-Q9IGKyY LOL

Little Caesars first came to my area via Kmart stores in the 80's or early 90's. It probably wasn't a good idea for Kmart to invest in cramming LC into what seemed like every Kmart on earth, even the smallest, oldest stores. Not surprisingly Kmart went bankrupt in 2002. Kmart had to pay a franchise fee for the rights to have LC in their stores, which was deemed an unnecessary expense upon the bankruptcy. Therefore, most "extras" at a lot of Kmart stores, not just LC but the snack bar, auto center, maybe even garden center or pharmacy were closed at stores that otherwise stayed open. Even some "Super" Kmart stores went to being "not so super" because their grocery sections were closed and walled off, sometimes replaced by completely unrelated businesses, not affiliated with Kmart.

I live in a Philadelphia suburb, and it seems that in recent years, both LC and Church's Chicken have sold franchises to the same people, because both LC and Church's, both of which previously entered but later exited our area, have made a return. The two are paired with each other in some locations, such as one in Norristown. Before, Church's Chicken was paired with White Castle, which left our area and never did return. I once lived in Houston (and a few other places in Texas) where Church's was paired with Wienerschnitzel (a California hot dog chain), as well as being paired with Fiesta supermarkets and many gas stations, most of which were Texaco, but with a few Exxon or Mobil stations as well. Many of them at gas stations also had another fast food chain with them, such as Pizza Inn, Baskin-Robbins, Taco Bell, Blimpie, etc. Ironically, as soon as Shell bought the Texaco stations in the area, the Church's at several of them closed, to be replaced by McDonald's. But around the same time, Texaco bought the Mobil stations in the area, and at one of them, Church's stayed put, and even while all the Mobil signage was replaced around it, the old Church's logo, which had changed years before, stayed the signage for this location. This is very odd because the facade under the Church's sign on the building had to be repainted red for Texaco.

Also, speaking of Houston, there was once a chain of Mexican restaurants known as Marcos there, but they went out of business sometime after I left town. Same with The Original Pasta Co, a chain of Italian restaurants owned by the same people. Both of these had outstanding food and service in the 80's when they were new, but definitely went downhill in the 90's, so it wasn't a huge surprise that they vanished. I doubt this Marcos was related to the Marcos pizzeria chain mentioned earlier in this thread.

Red Lobster has really gone downhill in recent years. Their coconut shrimp, what I ordered there several times when I didn't feel like studying the fish species and portions, went from being out of this world to being NASTY. I don't know exactly what was supposed to change, but these shrimp don't even look appetizing anymore. They once were HUGE shrimp, covered in a rich malty batter, but are now small shrimp with no fantails and fried in yucky breadcrumbs.

We ate quite a bit of LC pizza back in the 90s. The Pizza!Pizza! deal with two square pizzas in a single double-wide box was awesome. But like someont else posted, the LC near us closed down and I thought the company went belly-up until they opened a location here. Haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how it compares to the old LC pizza.

I've also eaten many cans of Chef Boyardee ravioli straight from the can, as well as the aforementioned ravioli sandwiches. Good stuff!
Hundreds of threads killed.

Domino's has a $7.99 deal for a large with unlimited toppings. While not great, it's better than any pizza you'll get from Little Caesars.

The best thing to do is make your own pizza. It's really cheap, and incredibly easy to do. You can make the dough a day in advance, and just buy the pizza sauce in a jar. Stretch the dough out, add sauce, cheese, and toppings. I made one last week for under $5 (already had the flour, yeast, and herbs), and it was a million times better than any chain I've tried.

I recently got myself a pizza stone. I've been nervous about trying it for the first time, but I guess I'll get on with it and see what I can make.

To me, pizza has to come from a pizzeria.  The homemade stuff can be really good but it's not really pizza.  It's a replica of pizza.  To me, pizzeria pizza is the standard for what pizza is.
