There are several versions of this ad, ending with the worried black couple jumping out of a fast-moving car and falling onto the hard pavement to escape the haughty white couple and their restaurant choice.

In the shorter version, there's no "I'm not sharing an appetizer" line, which makes it seem as if the poor black couple has to abandon the rich whites because the restaurant they're being driven to is too expensive.

So are these couples supposed to be friends? What kinds of friends would do this, otherwise? There is so much wrong with this ad, the least of which is that it's not funny.

The thing that gets me about it is ... Wouldn't the couples discuss where they were going to go for dinner before heading out?

Please allow me to give another opinion about Golden Crapel Barfett. Their commercials suck and the breakfast sucks. Not to mention the snot nosed kids and extremely large slobs that tend to hang out there. I love a good buffet, if done well.

Doesn't Golden Corral have a somewhat bad reputation as a ghetto-ish version of other buffet places?

Imagine spending quality time listening to that lady's cackling voice. I'd bail, too.

I was going to mention the same thing. I've been to 2 GC within 20 miles of each other in 2 towns with 2 different ethnic make ups. It doesn't matter, 75% of people at either place were black. I'm not saying anything negative about that, I guess black people just love GC. You can't even get IN the place on a Saturday night. Not that I'd even want to try. GC is the only buffet joint in town anymore. We used to have Ryans and Hometown Buffet but they both closed, and I don't recall either one leaning in favor of one race.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

WHen my Mother in Law lived in Florida, there was a GC right next to our hotel that EVERYONE always wanted to go to. Thankfully, the line was always too long making us go somewhere else. I've never crossed the threshold!

Some of the ones at the casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas are pretty damned good.  I love their breakfast buffets especially.  I mean, how can you go wrong with unlimited eggs and bacon and sausage and pastries?  And oh yeah---the little bit of fruit salad that you get to make you feel like you're eating healthy, but that you never actually get around to eating.  LOL

Afternoon and evening buffets are pretty good there, too.  But I tend to fill up on pasta, which really isn't the best use of a buffet.

I like Chinese buffets too.  There's one not too far from me that has great lo mein & pepper steak.

I just Googled "Images of Golden Corral Buffet". WOW - the "actual"  pictures that real customers took will send your guts a'spinning! There was a plate of something - I swear to God, I have no idea what it was supposed to be. Bacon? Ribs? An unfortunate accident with a black forest cake?

I like buffets too, but unfortunately, (or maybe, fortunately) there aren't any in my immediate area. I especially like the Chinese buffets, but since getting high blood pressure, gotta watch my sodium intake.
When I go to a buffet, I like to eat stuff that I don't make at home or that's too complicated to make at home. What I don't understand is the people who go to them and fill up on SALAD! Confused

We've had overall good luck with New China Star restaurants. A wonderful one in Tucson, a crappy one in Las Vegas, a fairly good one in Clovis, and next time we take a trip to Amarillo we're going to sample the one there.

Not the healthiest meal out there, but since we typically only visit them on big shopping trips, I'm fairly certain I burn off more than my share.

Probably to have a pic to go along with their trivial "At the Golden Corral n look how hungry I am!" tweet.

CryI's be hatin' it an' all when 'da whitefolk be tossin' 'da 'company' outta 'da back o'de bus.
No, I do not care too much for this commercial, much less where 'Golden Crapal' inadvertently and most certainly, unintentionally, went with it.
They forgot I was here.
MissyDWolf WISHES there was a 'GC' within 300 miles of us, but no.
(MissyDWolf LOVES GC because they make a very good 'Red Velvet' cake - always been her favorite treat since we were lil'tiny brats (I never got excited about it; I like German Chocolate Cake, but she doesn't, because of the coconut in the icing))

My fav part of the ad is when they bail out of the car going 40mph, disclaimer at bottom of screen says "do not attempt"

Very helpful advice

They're still showing this commercial here. Look at the driver's facial expression, he looks like he wants to bail, too.

If I remember right, the first run of these commercials did NOT have the disclaimer. Guess someone already was dumb enough to do it.

Word is their "chocolate waterfall" fondue thing is digusting.  Imagine a bunch of snot nosed kids sticking their hands and food into a "Waterfall" then eating from the same thing.  LoLnOTHX

Or grimy rib-sauced mitts grabbing at the marshmallows or fruit? Dead

I went to one great buffet in a casino in Indiana. You could choose all you want of hundreds of options BUT someone put it on your plate. No free grabbing or sneezing or dirty paws touching and putting back.

I won't even eat homemade crap people bring into the office. If I don't know the kitchen conditions, it ain't going in my mouth.  Especially when the beaming baker claims that "Little Susie helped me bake this"  or you cruise by their desk and see hundreds of pictures of their dogs and cats on display.

Now, back to the subject of the thread title:

Golden Corral, black couple escapes white couple

The 'Inquiring Mindless Need to Know': Let's bring this commercial all the way up to the year, ohhh...say...1990.

If they re-worked the commercial to have a mixed-race couple in the back-seat (let's say the 'husband' is white), after they let (or threw) the black wife out of the car, would they stop and let the white husband get out, so not to let his clothes get dirty? Everyone knows how road dirt really shows up on white.
Also, let's say this is a 'Golden Crappal' down near the Mexican border and the couple in the back just happened to be Hispanic. Would they have to jump out of the trunk? What if it was an Oriental couple? Would this require the car to be towing a boat?
