OK, I may go to hell for posting this, I can live with that.
Evil Smile
Maybe the little guy could get a paper route, if baby momma can't keep food in the house.

He should work on his shoplifting skills, just stuff two apples and a banana down his pants, I recommend briefs.

Pick out weak and vulnerable classmates and steal their lunch money.

It may be a good cause but it sure is a sucky song.

Parental failure.

Isn't it instinctual?  You feed your kids?  It's your first priority as a parent.  Come hell or high water, you find some way to feed your kids!  Hell, my cats have never even had to go without food.  Not even for a minute.

What's wrong with these people that there's no food in the house?  Angry

(these ads are clearly directed to people that need to THINK about what really counts in this life...)
Now, let's hear from the 'opposing side', before the cell door slams and little Sally gets a new last name...

ShockedDisapproveYou're clearly one of those that has your priorities in your proper order. Any decent drunk or junkie clearly understands crack and heroin isn't free and shopping for food while jonesing really sucks, so...food can wait, right? Anyway, who's to say Mom isn't making food money right now? It's even possible the current step-in-Dad is on the other side of town robbing a 7-11 as this is written! KIDS CAN WAIT - THEY WILL SURVIVE! Those growing bodies aren't going anywhere before you come down...and if they do, heck, walk on down to The Salvation Army.

I think you would be shocked to know how many children in this country go hungry most of the time, especially in summer, when they can't take advantage of whatever free food they can get at school in some places. Some kids even do poorly in their classes so they'll have to go to summer school, partly for that reason.

But yeah, the song is stupid. The first time I heard it, I was kind of waiting for the punch line. Also, the house is pretty nice and spacious; doesn't fit the message.

As Larry Tate would say: After the client loves Darin's ad schtick that earlier Tate hated and threatened to fire Darin (Betwitched) I wholeheartedly agree with your spin on this bad commercial. The apple and bananna singing pansy was trolling for eats in a really nice looking kitchen complete with modern fancy dishwasher. Doesn't make sense. And that damn song is a bad earworm from hell like 1877 Kars4Kids, and the vocal fry hipster chick croaking If I only had a brain on the Diploma mill U of Phoenix commercial. Hurl worthy. BTW I also did a thread on this apples and banannas commercial.
I approve this message.

Under no circumstances would I be shocked. I've been both unfortunate enough to be in a position to experience it up close with little chance to do anything about it - where it actually mentally scarred me, and fortunate enough to actually try and make a difference (which I do as often and invisibly as possible - but I WATCH to see the right things happen). I dislike the 'Second and Third Generations of the Food Stamp Society' - those that grow up in the Social Services Circles and know of no other way to live and have no incentive to change. We can only touch the young.

As far as the song goes, I recall the Missus singing it to a few of our pups when they were babbling babies. The babies loved it, but the song drove me to drink, or at least became an excuse for a spell...Wink

There are far to many ways to convert food stamps/EBT cards to cash or trade for alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. As far as generational welfare goes the young are home schooled in the most important career field. How to get the most from public assistance. In January a woman was interviewed in a newscast. She was very upset that her food stamps/EBT card reload was a day late due to a federal holiday. She yelled "I worked all my life for this! I expect to be paid on time!" Really? Ironically the holiday was MLK day.

It is!  At first I felt bad for the kid.  Then I got mad.  Hey - I'm being emotionally manipulated by the ad industry...AGAIN!!  Damn!

Then, I watched it again...and there's some Mighty Bad Shopping that's been done by Absent Mom...two bottles of mustard (one in the fridge, one in the pantry... a door fun of dressings on the fridge...Jeez, what is it with all the condiments in the house?)  And then I saw what looks like flour, sugar, and shortening in the cupboard - and jelly!  Hey Mom...make some shortbread cookies!  Or just biscuits, for God's sake, anyone can make them.  Even a kid.  But no, this little guy is like the S'mores hipster kid, can't cook anything.

(On a serious note, as to the ad's message.  I just read that over 9 billion dollars  (!!!??!!!) has been spent on March Madness betting.  ShockedIf that's true... if there really is  that kind of money floating around, no kid should go hungry.)

I am saddened by the cold-hearted comments made by a couple of people here who clearly don't know anything about what it's like to be born poor or to be made poor through no fault of one's own and trapped in a cycle that makes it nearly impossible to break out. It's not fun.

Thanks to those who have expressed some empathy. You rock.

We all agree it's a poorly produced spot.

In order to compensate for the $107,00 the State of Florida takes out of my SSDI each month) Angry I resorted to the various Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens that are in the Daytona Beach/New Smyrna Beach area and guess what? My food budget has gone down below what I pay for gas (Bear in mind I drive a 115 MPG Motor Scooter)! Big smile To qualify for free food in my neck of the woods all you have to do is prove you receive "Government Assistance" (That's ADC, SSDI, SSI among others for those of you in Rio Linda! LOL).

Hey!  It's called a sense of humor.
I have as much compassion and empathy for anyone suffering this type of problem as the next guy.

Our tax dollars fund many of these programs for Regulus and anyone else who can't work for whatever the reason might be.
