Cable sure as hell is NOT worse than this commercial.

The dentist sneezing into his open mouth is friggin' disgusting, the screaming from the turtle bite & the loud motorcycle engine are friggin' irritating.

Glad SOMEONE finally started one on this POS series (there are a FEW versions of this one, I believe).

As far as I'm concerned, it's all one big pissing contest between cable and satellite (and occasionally digital), and it's always been that way. Like so many other things with similar products and services (smartphones, fast food, and tablets just to name a few), all it comes down to is hundreds-to-thousands of channels and mostly nothing to watch. Both cable and satellite have similar problems, like freezing picture, weather-induced interference, and costly bills; even digital has a few drawbacks like these.

TL;DR: What's the difference anyway? We're still watching (or trying to watch) television no matter where we get it from.

What is with Direct TV? They can't tell us why their product is better so they just tell us some sh*t that makes no sense about why cable is the devil. Apparently this ad is targeted to the "bro" demographic since Direct TV is being personified as an Olsen twin reject that looks like she just had a train run on her for 2 days straight. I'm sure if you look close enough you'll find crusty jizz stains all over her skank dress. I'm sorry but that girl is a hot mess and this ad is trying WAYYYY too hard to appeal to the "Spike TV" demo.

The sneezing in the mouth thing really f*cking sicked me out, and I don't get sicked out easily.  WTF kinda crap is that?  Absolutely g*ddamn nasty.  Screw you and your ad department, DirecTV.

LOL

DirecTV supposedly has a better DVR recorder than cable, and that's what they're pushing. Who really records 5 shows at one time?

Yeah, so would I. If you google the model, Hannah Davis, she's actually quite attractive. They've given her face a weird look, maybe to imply an exotic genie. She's much better in her natural state.

yeah, I'm with Thor on this one - this series of commercials cracks me up.  I like the guy getting out of the lake, covered in leaches...

We've had to move a couple times in the 5 or so years, going from house to apartment to house to apartment, etc.  We've had directv for 10 years or so, but have had to switch to cable (time warner) while in the apartments.  In my opinion, directv is 100x better.  Better picture quality, more HD channels, better selection of channels.  The user interface - guide, info, scheduler, etc. is AMAZINGLY better.   Going from directv to cable, in this aspect, literally feels like you're going back about 20 years in technology.

Same thing with the dvr.  it's not just about how many shows you can record at one time, but how much you can store in total, too.  Our directv dvr stored about 4 times what our current cable dvr will, and we had an old one.  The new directv dvr's are about twice the capacity of what we had.  It also puts shows into folders, which our cable dvr doesn't - so you can delete all of one show, play everything in a folder without having to play each show separately, etc.

sorry to rant but I HATE cable.  My parents & mother in law have dish network - much better product than cable, but imo still not up to the directv standard..

On Nat Geo and once on AMC, I saw this commercial with the chihuahua being taken by a hawk or something. I just rescued a chihuahua and when I saw that, I actually gasped. That sh*t freaks me out. I live in FL where not that long ago a damn python ate a lady's chihuahua. To actually see something like that on TV got me upset.

Apparently it got a lot of complaints, and is only shown on the "manly" channels....

^ As regards the above video...

1.) I don't think a bird of prey can ascend in a nearly vertical fashion after swooping in and picking up a dog. I know, I know, it's just a commercial... but at least make it realistic.

2.) I find it curious that they refer to the "genie" like it's an actual female being. "She lets you record up to five shows at once." She? Do you have to feed her and take her for walks as well?

While these commercials are annoying, I do give their creators some credit for getting my attention with the strange/shocking cutaways. That said, I'm still not buying her (the genie).

I think she lets go of the leash, because you can see it go up with the dog and bird.

My friend is a vet tech and is constantly telling me stories about how big birds can swoop down and take your dog even on a leash. She kept telling me over and over as if to tell me I should just litter train my dog Confused

I didn't think a bird of prey would risk grabbing a small prey with a larger animal (human) nearby, as it could be protect the smaller animal from attack.   I guess it depends on how hungry they are and how confident they are in being able to be quick enough to get airborne after the catch.

I would think that they are gutsy... The hawks in my neighborhood couldn't care less when humans are trying to get them off their car and sh*t.

Mockingbirds aren't afraid of anything! They are so mean...we used to watch as they would swoop down and dive bomb our cat. No fear of him at all, and he was a pretty badass cat...but they would start in on him, and he would have to go hide under a car. And then they would sit on the car and WAIT for him! Vicious little cretins...

I'll bet they had a nest nearby.  That's when birds get protective.  I don't think they'd want to mess with cats just for the hell of it.  I have starlings that do the same whenever they've got a nest in one of my trees and the cats get too close.  I don't blame 'em.

WinkI always thought it was a mini-weiner dog (we have 2), which always creeped me out, but other than that, I think this is the BEST of that line of commercials; the clowns are great - plays on a psychosis many folks have, and then the parking lot is just classic. I love it.
